This is a review of the optometrist Dr. May Chan, in the Novato Costco. My receipt says Almaden Optometric Associates Novato, but the website address (www.aoasj.com) goes to a website that has not yet been created. I had an appointment to get a new prescription since mine had expired. Dr. Chan and the receptionist were not very friendly, and seemed to be in a big hurry -- just "sit here," "go there," no time to explain things. I had to ask more than once to print the two prescriptions (one for reading glasses, one for progressives) separately. Dr. Chan said there was no change, but she spent less than five minutes testing my vision, and my opthamologist had said a month ago that my far-away vision had worsened and I should get a new prescription. Then when it was time to leave, I had to ask for the prescriptions, and was told I had to pay first -- treating me like someone who would walk out without paying. Weird vibes. read more

GREAT! This Costco does not have a gas station. Thankfully this location still has HOT DOGS! NO HOT DOGS means it isn't a Costco. I have gone to this location a few times. I had no bad experience coming to this location. It was quiet with a lot of people shopping here. I don't remember what I bought from the location but I surely ate hot dog here. You can't eat a hot dog and shop here...it wouldn't be right! Membership desk answer my question. I ask about why there was no gas station there. They answer it to their best knowledge. We go to Costco 2x a month. We mostly buy produce coffee, tofu, TP and other non food items. They have good deals in some products. If we are up for a treat, we like to order cheese pizza and hotdog. The prices are unbeatable. read more

All Costco's prices went up for half the weight . Why ? Is it worth it to shop at Costco ?

I tried to come in for a very quick item. I had my small dog with me on a leash... with my membership card out. The staff first told me I had to use the entrance by putting their hand in my face, and I explained I needed to go to the bathroom very bad. They said must enter through the entrance vs exit door. The same staff, once I went to enter through the entrance said "no dogs you can't come inside." They then pointed to the front door and said "it says it outside," as if I had blatantly not read a small sign. Other costcos have first sought to understand if my dog is a service dog. This staff did not. Also, others have given me a flyer on using a service dog and that by bringing in I was declaring that was the purpose. Perhaps this Costco enforces regardless of why and what type of dog, but overall clearly is more interested in a poor customer experience. The worst thing happened when I needed to go shopping for normal items amongst panic buying hoarders due to the Coronavirus. I had seen a post regarding this particular Costco on a Facebook group and decided to call early this morning before opening to see if they indeed had any sort of bath tissues. A nice gentleman picked up and advised me that they did (have limited stock), and recommended I arrive early. I had expected him to be snarky, tired from answering what I guess to be the same question 100x a day, and he wasn't. Very kind, patient and helpful. Upon arrival at 8:50am (they opened at 10am), I was roughly 10th-11th in line. Several employees came out throughout the morning and kindly advised people of the limit per household, new temporary hours & any additional helpful information. We were let in around 9:45am, the majority of us kept in a single file, hasty line towards the back (of course there were cutters and rude people trying to go around the other side), and were met with workers in an assembly-like fashion handing out Clorox wipes, TP, Paper Towels, water & making sure you got it in a quick and easy manor. Finished my food shopping & checkout was quick and friendly as well, honestly, among this chaotic time, if you follow directions and respect the workers, and what they're trying to do, your trip (should you choose to go during panic buying) will be easy. THANK YOU Costco employees for taking the time to organize an assembly of desired products, keeping your cool & being professional and kind. I've been shopping here for 20+ years. In fact my now husband proposed to me at the food court over pizza and froyo. (I said he had to do better;)) But, what I understand from a marketing perspective--but not from common sense--is why they keep the amazing blueberries and other fresh berries out with the apples, bananas, etc. Yesterday, the blueberries were in huge boxes just inside the entrance. It was 98 degrees. When they are in the cold room, they last 4-5 days. Outside, 1-3 max. The waste must be enormous. Costco--you can do better. read more

This location is convenient, easy to get to, with plenty of parking. I find it to be less crazy than the other stores I'm accustomed to. They've got all your basic Costco needs. It's clean, organized. I also find that the customers are friendlier than other locations. Random people talking to each other, socializing...while not trying to run each other over with their carts for samples. It's a great change of pace. No gas station. read more

Costco is usually good but last time I went there with my elderly Mother to ask questions about the tablet she wanted, we hardly got any help. I had to ask 3 different employees and none of them knew much about it. My mother actually knew more. We had to wait for a longtime before we saw anyone we can talk to in the electronics department. He mostly just said to read the reviews which we had before we came. Dah. She finally decided in her own to get it. I hope they get better help. It's really frustrating these days to get it. Yes Costcos have their pros and cons. But mostly pros. Here's why I love the Novato location. First, compared to SF there's really zero wait time on line. If it ever takes ten minutes i'm really surprised. Mostly in and out - and yes a lot depends on when you arrive. Next the staff - Why do you see the same people month after month, year after year? Because they take care of their people and happy employees provide better customer service. Third, they'll take ANYTHING back within reason (yes there are limits on electronics which are very fair). I've returned a cooler that I though was just a few months old - it turned out it was a few YEARS old - but they happily took it back anyway. I was almost embarrassed. But I took the cash. Finally, they go out of their way to make things right. A couple of months ago I purchased a folding chair for my dad's computer desk. About three days later, I realized that I left it on the bottom of the cart when I loaded up the car in the Costco parking lot. When I sheepishly called the store and told them what happened, the manager said "it actually happens more than you'd thing. Just bring us the receipt and we'll get you another chair". Whew. Then of course there's the benefits of every costco - great produce, choice beef that looks better than prime in some other stores, the amazing five dollar roast chicken, and Novato's cheapest buck and a half lunch for a dog and a coke. Beware of Dee in membership. I told her I wanted a Costco membership. I asked her how much were they? She replied $120. I thought that was high because I la Costco member years ago. She didn't address all of the membership options and took it upon herself to give me the executive membership of $120. I finally figured it out that her Shady tactic was dishonest and I complained. I usually love this Costco but recently I bought my usual $3-400 worth of stuff but when I was unloading I realized my $15 Tissue pack was missing. The game me a new one at my register but then a jerk "manager" named JEFF, who was on a power trip came running out like he caught me stealing $15 worth of tissues. He should me a photo on his phone of my leaving with the tissues hanging off the bottom front of the cart when my rec't was checked. So I said I would go retrace my steps to where i had been parked. Then I said to Jeff I am a good customer (over $100,000 spent there over the years and if I cant find it they could replace it. JEFF said indignantly that it was my fault. I said the guy at the register moved them when he scanned them. He said he have video of the checkstand. So asked to see it and he said no. So asked for the manager and he said he was. LOL. This clown could not me the manager. I pressed him and was ready to go in and find the manager. Then he admitted he wasnt and got Arnie. He was more reasonable but took 15-20 minutes to check the video. Finally, he admitted there was no video showing my my fault in this. JEFF LIED there was video. Arnie comped me a new box and said he saw someone steal the box that fell off. I realize I should have noticed the box fell off and would have even paid for a new one. But this jerk JEFF seems to get off on power trips. From the get go, running out of the store over a pack of costco tissues and then lying that "I have it on video" is a LMAO story but if I dont get the apology which was promised (been 3 days) I will file and official complaint...Today. read more

Costco employee that checks receipt, I think his name is 'Imram' checks receipts like you are stealing stuffs. He makes the line too long and inefficient and It is a huge waste of customer time. When I asked him if he had to check every single items(I only bought 5 items + some hotdogs, he said yes BUT INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHED MY SHOULDER. The only positive thing I can say is: The customer service at the optometry department is nice. The man there (long hair in a ponytail) was very helpful and kind. My fiancé is a Costco card member but I am not, and he directed me to the membership desk to be added on. This is where it gets bad: The membership desk girl was terrible and moody. I didn't get her name, but she was a white girl in her 20s with curly hair and a very noticeable gap tooth. When my fiancé told her that she'd like me to be added onto the card, the worker started before she literally eyed me up and down. She then stopped and asked if we lived together, and we said yes. She then paused AGAIN and asked "Do you have some sort of proof? Like an envelope with both your names on it and the same address?" I said no because we made an impromptu stop into Costco. The girl then smiled and said sorry, we can't add you without proof then. My fiancé stepped in and said she pays for the card, she can show her ID if that helps. The worker then said that the card is under my fiancé's mom's name, and that in order to add me on, we'd have to bring her mom into Costco to add me! I've talked with two friends since the incident and they've told me they've added their significant others with no issues and without needing to show proof. It was just needlessly hostile and pointless. I get there may be a protocol in denying to add me right then and there, but you could tell the girl was happy about being an asshole. So if you need to have the membership desk help you at this Costco, avoid the white girl with curly hair and big gap tooth. She's pointless. read more

I came straight to this location from Richmond Warehouse location to hunting down the Car Port Canopy which is the only 12 units left in stock in any Costco around Bay Area. They were busy! I walked around and didn't find them. One of the staff told me to go to the Merchandise Pick Up department and they will figure it out from there. The department were so busy with all the tasks and were being call left and right for support from everyone but still, Jeff ((((shout out for Jeff!!))) were greeting me and asked me "Hi sir, can I help you?" Right away, he punched into his terminal to find out if they have the item in stock then radio his staff to locate the request item and even let his staff loaded the enormous item to the cart for me!! I have been using the Audiology Department at Costco, located in Novato, CA, for 8 years. Yesterday, I have never received such excellent, skillful, communicative service as I did previously, anywhere. Johnnique Cruse answered questions before I know I had them. She was patient in her explanations & was certain I was well informed before I parted. In addition, the amazing hearing aids she recommended are half the price I expected. They are rechargeable with batteries which never need changing. They last for 24 hours before the next charge. I'm still not over my amazement. If you are nearby or can get to Novato, it's worth the price of a membership just for the hearing aid service I am receiving. read more

Have to say though, even though the parking lot can be kind of crazy sometimes, and drivers lose their heads, I find the staff nice, informative and accommodating. Such was the case again today. I recently purchased Hearing Aids from Costco. I had another pair from another company and one of my hearings aids fell out and I couldn't find it. Many of my friends had hearing aids from Costco and they all really like their Costco hearing aids and the service. I was not fully satisfied with my old hearing aids, so I decided to give Costco a chance. My new hearing aids that I purchased from Costco were a third of the price of my last hearing aids and they are much more reliable and more comfortable. The service is also so extraordinary. While I am shopping, I drop them off at the Hearing Aid Center, and they clean them and replace the old domes. The audiologist was so skilled and my hearing aids are much more efficient than my last pair. She programmed them on the computer to my specific needs and I can hear everything so well. That wasn't true of my last hearing aids. I now enjoy wearing them and I always wear them, comfortably!! read more

My partner and I went into Costco to sign up for a membership last Friday. We knew what we wanted: the basic $60 gold. Upon reaching Member Services, we were treated by an associate named Vanny who, at first, was very kind and accommodating. Vanny then began prodding us into upgrading to the Executive Membership. This is when it became comically painful. We told Vanny that we did not want the Executive. I had researched the memberships and it simply wouldn't be a good value for me. "Can we please just get the Gold?" She would not take no for an answer. We had filled out all our info and she kept saying "you want the Executive. If you're not satisfied, there's a 100% Money-back guarantee". We repeated this maybe 10 times, I'm not exaggerating. We were desperate to just get this over with, get a snack and get started with our shopping, so I yielded. We bought the Executive. Mind you, my partner and I were laughing and talking about how ridiculous this was all the way through. I don't know why it was so hard for her to pick up on our social queues, but it was disturbing. I have never been sold so hard on anything in my entire life. Vanny then took our photos for the member ID cards and proceeded to spell our names wrong on the first two prints, meaning we had to do the photos over and over.... Finally done. I called management the next day on the phone and they were very apologetic, but did not offer to refund me for the entire membership. They did, however, refund me for the Executive upgrade and cancel that. The only reason this store gets 2 stars and not 1 is because of this manager, but, all-in-all, I'm still extremely dissatisfied. Will probably call corporate for a complete refund soon as this has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth re: Costco. read more

We drove over an hour to this location to shop for my uncle who is immune compromised and they let us shop in there for over 2 hours though when we reached the checkout, they wouldn't let us pay because it was my uncles card. I even had my id showing that we have the last name, and they still would not let us check out. I then had to facetime him and even with his verbal phone confirmation, they turned us away. I have been a member of Costco for 32 years. Recently the attitude of the employees has become unbelievably hostile towards the members. I shop at Costco 2-3 times a week and spend 3k a month there. Lately when I use the self check out lane, the employees are rude, aggressive, and down right offensive. There is no courtesy or consideration ever. Throughout the store I have been verbally abused for no reason. Waiting for one of my clients, iI was told to check out right now. I couldn't because my client was bringing more merchandise for us to purchase. A manager told me to pull up my pants after I bent down to put something in my cart. I have been told to go to the checkout line that is short. When I said I was waiting, I was told I didn't have a choice. Costco had record profits last year because they raised the prices a lot. This is called greed inflation . After that they have made it company policy to harass their members ! read more
