You might be wondering why someone would write a Yelp review for a Costco. Fair. But hear me out. I come to this location often because it's the most convenient. I live between the Foster City and Redwood City Costcos, and since I do a workout nearby, it's an easy stop on the way home. The value here is solid. I consistently get good prices on staples like eggs, Greek yogurt, collagen, and sparkling water. Gas prices are also a big reason I keep coming back. You really can't beat the deals. What's frustrating is the service. I don't expect over-the-top friendliness, but a lot of the staff seem annoyed or disengaged. I'm not someone who needs help or asks a lot of questions. I just want to be treated like a regular person. My last visit summed it up. The receipt checker mumbled something I couldn't understand, marked my paper, and let it dangle without handing it back. I had to reach out and take it while he looked the other way. It was small, but after so many cold interactions, it stood out. There have been better moments. Once I couldn't find a specific kind of beef jerky, and a guy stocking shelves actually stopped to help me look. We didn't find it, but he made the effort, and I appreciated that. So yes, the value is great. But I can get the same value at other Costco locations where the service feels better. I'll probably keep coming here for convenience, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

This Costco is in Redwood City. I don't particularly like the design of the parking lot since it feels like there is often gridlock trying to get out but there's really only one main way in and out. There is a side exit by the tires but you're forced to turn right and it's awhile before you can make a U-turn. The Costco itself is nice, standard stuff. They carry a lot of produce, food, clothing, you name it. I buy paper goods here a lot (toilet paper, paper towels.) The produce is also decent but if it goes bad too fast you can get a refund if you return the product or show them a picture of the bad product. read more

Very disappointing morning at Costco. They've implemented a new executive hour which is fine but I was wasn't aware and arrived 15 minutes early. They held me to that 15 minutes, with no grace given even though it's a new policy. Would have appreciated a single warning and have it noted on my account. I even mentioned that I checked google and Alexa before leaving and they report opening at 9am which is technically true but should be updated to reflect the new policy. The guy humored me and asked Siri on his phone and said "that should be updated" but the other guy said "well we are technically open". Literally wanted to cry standing there. They are also checking the baskets on exit so throughly the line to leave is defeating after spending hundreds of dollars in the store and waiting to shop. I went to shop as usual and whenever it was time to check out. The cashier had a really bad and awful attitude. She didn't greet me at all. No a word from her month came out which is perfectly fine we don't have to be chatting. But her face said everything. Very aggressive putting the item back in the cart, once my purchase was done and I was exiting they stop me because she didn't scanned the item in the bottom of my cart because of the same attitude that she had since the begging of the transaction. I've been to this particular, Costco gas station a number of times, I always forget to write a review. Lol. I didn't realize that this gas station has a number of pumps, but each station only has two pumps per row. The other Costco gas stations perhaps are newer and they have four or six pumps per row. Now I want to go back and count everything. Lol. Nevertheless, I was glad I was in my air-conditioned car. Everybody was getting gas since it was July 3. Lol they're expensive. Gas was $4.89 and the less expensive gas was 30 cents cheaper- I believe. I wouldn't mind coming to the particular Costco again, but to get out with a freaking nightmare!! There were a number of people finishing getting gas as they wanted to drive across/intersections through me as I was trying to leave the quickest manner possible from the gas station I don't know! I had to stop for a number of cars and then some older gentleman decided to semi park his car in the middle of the street/away as he up to the front for something? Lol. I don't know old people are funny. Anyways, this part of Redwood City is under a facelift and a lot of things are getting remodeled so I didn't really recognize the area. I've been in Redwood City a lot lately for work, and as a fan of all things Costco, it's one of the better Costco's around IMO. I think the things I like most about this location in particular is how the gas station isn't as busy as SSF and can usually get in and out quickly. Plus there's hella parking which is key to any Costco trip. The selection is similar to SSF but I think their freezer sections are much bigger. The store is well organized and checking out has been a breeze. The food court inside is kinda small, so if the pickup line is long, so not usually a spot I'll grab a $1.50 hot dog or slice. Pro-tip: shop at Costco on Wednesday's because that's when all the new deals come out. read more

As I was trying to find a checkout I ask Employee Maru S if she was open, she ignored me and continued scanning, I asked again and very rudely she said yes and gestured very sarcastically and rude to look around to indicate me that she was in fact open. She made me feel super embarrassed and she continued to laugh and said sarcastic things to who ever she was checking out. I am not sure if it was another employee or a costumer as it seemed like they knew eachother. Is hard to understand how she can be so rude for one question. Very poor customer service. Ok I've been here a bunch of times. I've met 2 managers. Jesse and a young lady. They were both professional and effective at solving my issue. It's well staffed, although not the friendliest. Jesse had to resolve an incompetent tire shop employee issue and the lady manager made a price correction for me which had expired few days. Other than that, carts are in decent shape here (for example carts in SF (10th St) are in bad shape). Parking is not the best but I go in the back entrance and usually park behind the warehouse to avoid the chaos. Tire Center is a 1 star hell hole stay away at ALL COSTS. Drive a flat tire if you have to but DO NOT USE THEIR TIRE SHOP HERE. read more

Honestly, this place has bad vibe--the employees are downright rude, and the regular customers base are much worse. The customers here are unlike any Costco I've even been; I've have multiple customers run into me with their shopping carts, the parking lot is hostile and dangerous, and I've been people screaming and threatening one another. That said, this is the only the second Costco I've ever been to where the employees were downright rude, hostile, and unfriendly. This review is for the Tire department. Last Thursday I walk out of the gym at 8.15 pm to a dreaded low tire pressure warning. I Was at Marsh Road and with blinkers on made the trek out to Costco Redwood City. I want to give a shoutout to a couple amazing people there : it was past 8.30 pm but Chris and Luis were AMAZING and filled my tire back up and went and talked to their manager about my options for fixing the tire. Hedder and Jessie at the tire center were equally amazing. Finally I left my car overnight at Costco and came back in the morning as a walk-in to check my car in for a repair/replacement. I did not need a tire replacement and Chris was able to repair my flat - I am beyond grateful to Chris and Costco for making this flat tire experience a smooth one with very little angst. read more

It's costco! HOME OF THE 1.50 HOT DOG AND SODA You get what you expect , plus this one has a gas station! Please remember their pump hoses reach both sides of the vehicle so it doesn't matter which line you pick! The biggest beef I have with this location is their lot is super busy always and the 2 intersections - one with light and the other stop sign scramble are horrid. The light is so congested especially on weekends and after work and the stop sign is only 2 way stop for exiting traffic. The entering traffic does not stop and has right of way which people often forget. Honestly shocked to not see any collisions. Drive safely and slowly! read more

We have been coming to this Costco location for a long time and have never had any complaints! Today, we experienced such an awful and racist moment with a Costco staff member. While shopping, our friendly girls who are 1 and 3 years old were walking around and stopped and said hi to this older, comb backed gray haired, heavy set staff member who was emptying the trash cans. The guy looked at them and said "Hola!" He then paused and proceeded to say, "Tacos, burritos, enchiladas or whatever you guys say!" We were shocked and in disbelief to hear him say that and did not want to cause a scene, so we walked away without saying anything back to him. The comment was uncalled for, unappreciative, and not tolerated. Our family is mixed Mexican and Filipino and never in California have we ever experienced any comments of this kind. We made a complaint to two supervisors about this and they apologized and said they would talk to him. We will be following up about what steps were taken or implemented. This particular Costco has many Mexican and Latino customers and we would hate to learn that this staff member continues to make these kinds of comments so loosely, unprovoked and out of the ordinary. This is an isolated incident with this individual and we feel doesn't represent Costco as a whole. We also are not the type to ever leave negative reviews but we cannot let this slide as it affects not only our girls and our family but the entire community. I was approached by membership rep to upgrade the membership at Redwood City, CA. I told him i was not interested, he just kept talking. I said I felt harassed, he said that it is Costco doing and I would experience this until I upgrade my membership! He stared at me the rest of the check out process, which made me very uncomfortable and not safe to go to this store. Their app sucks due to following, - doesn't allow a way to find items at least the Aisle number! As a result, lot of customers are lost wondering about finding items in silly aisles of their large warehouses! - delivery app isn't friendly! Learn from instacart, how to build a good delivery app! The store cons, - cannot find following items Green chili, green onions, decent pita breads, family plan products (most items are not available) As a result, Costco is never able to provide everything we need! - Closes early which is inconvenient.. Walmart, WholeFoods are open till about 11pm I end up getting into those as I am late most times! - They don't accept AmEx credit cards and most other credit cards! Very inconvenient in case I forgot my other cards to bring! - And they, don't have bags, always super hard to pack stuffs into car! The Manager of the Tire Center at this location, Hector A, is one of the most skilled and diligent customer service agents we have ever met. When we visited a different Costco location for help with a flat tire, we were told (incorrectly) that the Michelin tires on our vehicle had been discontinued, and that we would need to switch to a different tire model to use our road hazard warranty. But Hector found an exact-match replacement even though the tire no longer existed in Costco's inventory system. He then manually pushed through the warranty swap even though he had to do a ton of extra work to bypass the incorrect inventory info. To compensate us for the hassle of getting wrong info from the other location, he waived the treadwear pro-rating fee. Finally, he went above and beyond to confirm that the tire had NOT been discontinued. And he got all of this done in less than an hour.
