So, I called and got an appointment with whomever is now at Hearing Services of McKinney, because I have not been hearing very well with my hearing aids that I spent $6,000 for several years ago. A young woman wearing jeans, looking like she was getting reading to clean her garage, called me to the exam room and took my hearing aids. She left the room with them and came back about 15 minutes later and told me that that there was nothing wrong with my hearing aids, but since they were more than four years old, I should get a new pair. She mentioned that the price has now increased by $1,000, so new ones would be $7,000. She did not bother to test my hearing, nor did she bother to tell me that she could adjust the hearing aids I have now. She said the only thing my hearing aids were doing now was to amplify. I left in a daze, being a retired teacher, wondering how in the world I would be able to afford $7,000 or more each four years. It dawned on me after I got home that she had told me that there was nothing wrong with my present hearing aids, and that she did not offer me any option but to purchase new ones. Neither did she test my hearing (why does a person make an appointment with an audiologist, but to have their hearing tested and corrected)? So, I paid $65 for this person, Ms. Gilbo, to do a whole lot of nothing for me. I believe she completely led me astray, did not bother to offer me any solution except to spend a fortune on new aids, and then lied to me when I called her and expressed my concern. Do not waste your hard-earned money on this shyster!

I do need to have a disclaimer: I've been wearing hearing aids for years, so I came in to HearUSA as a seasoned veteran of the product. My reason for coming was simply that my insurance will pay for new devices every three years, and I was due. My previous provider was no longer covered by insurance, and this was the closest provided to my home that was. Upon arriving for my initial appointment, Erick administered a comprehensive hearing test, the most comprehensive I've had. My hearing loss is minor to modest, so I don't need crazy devices. Yet my insurance benefits are quite good, so we first chose devices from Starkey. Long story short, they didn't work out, so Erick pivoted to my previous brand, Phonak. The devices were fitted and configured, and have been working great. At my two week checkup, we discussed how the experience was going, and I was good to go. This is a small practice with just Erick and his office manager, but they're very efficient and professional with regards to making appointments and reminders, as well as all of the processes of diagnosis and dispensing of devices (if needed). I highly recommend this business if you're in the market!
