While I regularly frequent my local Costco at home in the States, every few visits to Toronto, I find myself stopping by Costco for one reason or another. This particular Costco is nicer than others with off and on long lines depending on the day and time. I always enjoy walking around, thinking of what my family can use and what we can get as gifts for others, and trying the samples (well, that's more or less me). My wife has used almost all of the different services and departments before. It's clear that there's something for everyone in Costco. This Costco in North York is my family's regular Costco to shop at. On one side of my family, I have memories of my grandfather stopping by for a hot dog and a drink and using an electric wheelchair through the store (and avoiding running people over). On the other side of my family, they make regular outings to get produce, meat, and any treats for the next week. On my last visit to Costco, my sister and I ran in for a few minutes to pick up some Canadian essentials to bring back as gifts to friends back at home. Once you are a member of Costco, you can purchase gas at the Costco Gasoline locations. There are then plenty of items including groceries that you can purchase often in bulk. The website now also includes a "treasure hunt" which is simply a rotating selection of items marked down or priced at extra value for a limited time. There is also a food court with very reasonably priced items including the long-time favorite of a jumbo hot dog and drink for only $1.50, which my grandfather and I used to love to get together. There is also travel, photos, pharmacy, optical, and more. Plus, you can get some tasty samples and even buy discounted gift cards. So joining Costco is about a lot more than just the gas, though that's certainly an attractive and added bonus to being a member! Services include the gas station, food court, pharmacy, tire service center, optical department, and hearing aids. Other departments in the store including the auto buying program, bakery, fresh deli, fresh meat, fresh produce, membership, and T-Mobile cellular kiosk. Their Gold Star hours are weekdays from 10 AM to 8:30 PM, Saturday from 9:30 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM to 7 PM. These are the same hours for Business Members, and Executive Members can show up for an hour earlier on weekdays and Sundays and 30 minutes early on Saturdays. Had my first Canadian poutine here. Very tasty, and an incredible great value (turns out to be $4.99 USD and could easily feed two big backs). Employees were nice enough. Canadian Costco is just as chaotic as it is in the states. In the states, Costco is notorious for only accepting Visa. It was a little getting used to for Canadian Costco to be the same except instead of Visa, it's Mastercard. There were some pretty bad French red wine here. Timberlay Bordeaux is one of the worst things I've ever tried. It made me think of Oberyn Martell's quote about King's Landing's wine being the equivalent of swill. You could probably get a better wine just aging Welch's grape juice, honestly. It's bizarre to me still you can't buy alcohol freely in Ontario without having to defer to the LCBO. I don't like this location as much as other ones, but I visit occasionally for specific items that are not available elsewhere. Same deal as other Costcos -- weekly specials as well as manager specials. Morning runs to Costco are usually relaxing, but not here. Even up until around 10am, staff are still actively restocking. It can be really hectic, especially near the chips and toilet paper, trying to avoid being run over by moving pallets. They could be better organized in a more timely way. read more

I was able to pick up a high visibility T shirt for work and a some instant udon. All stuff that is not sold in my local Costco, or in the USA. The pepperoni pizza is the best at this Wilson Dufferin location! The pizza at Warden Ellesmere location is sloppy with how they add their pepperoni. I went just before lunch on a Saturday and service was slow because it was so busy. And always loved Costco polish sausage which is still $1.50 deal with drink! read more

I love Costco. Long after REI decided to stop standing behind their products, Costco still does. They're one of the few retailers that has lifetime returns for non-electronics. It's saved my bacon on a few things over the years that you expect to have a long life but sometimes don't. Example: I bought a e-mower and trimmer (~$750) in Spring of 2022. In Summer of 2023, the dual battery stopped auto-switching. Were it any other retailer, I'd have to deal with the inconvenience of swapping batteries manually, or the hassle of shipping it for repair (4 year warranty). Costco lets me return it. I may wait for summer, when they carry replacements. I also love how they stand behind certain principles (refusal to raise the price on rotisserie or hot dog and drink). I don't even buy these items, but for a profit-driven corporation, it's a rare breath of fresh air. I wish they had a better mobile/web experience, but that's part of their strategy to increase foot traffic. I disagree with it but not enough to stop going. After 12 years of membership, I still learn of new services they offer. For example, in the past month I've learned they have free self service automatic tire air (and it's Nitrogen!). The inflators aren't perfect, but the service people nearby will help if the machines fail. They also offer discounted travel insurance. Also, I love their pizza compared to any frozen or most delivery places. $10 lasts for 4-5 meals. read more

This location is usually very busy because it's the closest warehouse to residents of North York, Midtown and Downtown living west of Yonge Street. It has great variety of fresh vegetables, fruit and Kosher meat. Their warehouse is clean and during COVID-19 pandemic, they have limited the number of people entering the warehouse and there is a huge lineup at the entrance, even in the early mornings. read more

Visiting a new Costco is always a mix of trepidation and excitement. What is the parking lot going to be like? Will they have regional exclusives? Do they have all the side facilities (gas station, propane filling tank, etc?). I pulled up at about 10:20am on a Saturday. It seemed like the earlier the better in this case. The parking lot around here is decent sized but shared with the rest of the plaza nearby. I was able to find parking really easily just a few rows down from the entrance. Inside the entrance on the right, there was a worker that was giving people carts which was great. I've been at other locations where there aren't any carts left and you have to go hunting for them. I walked literally every aisle of this Costco. They've got the electronics section in the front, optometry nearby, wares you'd find at Home Depot, a mix of clothes/books/toys in the middle of it all, flanked by household supplies, the main grocery section at the back, etc. So some of the more interesting items at this Costco included: - A Costco puzzle! The completed puzzle is an animated panorama of the inside of the Costco store with its iconic layout. - This one did have the very rare Miss Vickies Spicy Ketchup Chips that you can't get in other stores! - They were still carrying some Lunar New Year goodies with special packaging like pears and kiwis. I also saw that they had the special swallow's bird nests along the wall of the store now. - In produce, they have the very hyped up white strawberries and they also have a pink flesh pineapple already. - I also saw that they had a 2-pack of Lole joggers. I was surprised to see such a premium brand here and they did feel pretty nice too. They came in 2 different colour combinations and I wound up grabbing one that had a plum and dark grey combo. They are handing out samples at Costco these days but they ask you to enjoy your samples outside or at home instead. I was impressed that they were handing out entire tall cans of Joy Burst (a new energy drink) to sample instead of pouring out shots to prevent people from taking off their masks in store. It was nice checking out this store! If I'm in the area again I wouldn't mind a trip to this over some of the other Costcos in the city. read more

Great deals daily, especially AFTER Christmas/New Years because they want to get rid of expiring (sometimes January of the new year from what I've noticed) and old Christmas product/stock. They still sell certain plants during the winter but my rule of thumb here is, if you see it - BUY IT. Cause sometimes your desired size or the product you want will be GONE by the next time you come back for a second trip. At least if you bought it and didn't want it, you can either just come back and return it, sell it or give it to someone (in your family or hold onto it for a later gift). If they run out of Lysol wipes, they'll always get more eventually (might take a few weeks-months) and same thing with toilet paper. Also, download Flipp to see the Costco flyer which will save you LOTS of time to go to the store just to see the little paper of what's on sale (which they actually don't give out anymore due to Covid). You can also search on Google how to hunt for products being discontinued or on sale by the ending digits of the product price (ie. Products ending in ".97" are on clearance, products with an asterisk (*) mean the product won't be on shelves after they're sold out, and products ending in ".88" are the manager markdowns, etc). There are several articles about it I found doing a simple Google search, and it seems Canadian markets also implement these pricing strategies just like in the US. Overall, great/friendly/helpful staff, still lines depending on the time of day you go, and great variety of products available - there's always something new and exciting to be found here! And one last PSA thing - BUY THE 2-PACK VITAMIN D3 PILLS!!! If you need to go to a Costco... This will suffice. The products are all there and the layout is the same as any other Canadian Costco. The staff are efficient and good at their jobs. The pierogies guy was especially nice and gave us good recommendations. HOWEVER don't eat here. When you get to the food section, it is chaos. There are 3 condiments (ketchup, mustard, and relish) that are not refilled or maintained. Sort of falling apart. The lids for the drinks were missing. And I'm pretty sure I got some kind of food poisoning from the hotdog. There's hardly any seating compared to the volume of people this location serves, and you have to ask for honey mustard if you want it for your chicken tenders. You can really tell Costco is trying to cut costs. read more

My God, what is happening in this city? The population has doubled, but the facilities are getting less and less. Today the store was very busy and there was a long line for the cashiers. The cashiers had no helpers. It seems that Costco managers know that people come to shop anyway and they don't care if people wait in line for a long time or if they are satisfied. Decent selection, rude employees The good: it's Costco. There are samples. There are large sizes. There are things you need and things you don't, but it's fun to shop. It's a spectacle and there are some good prices and unique products. The so so: The selection at this Costco is okay, but I've seen better at other Toronto locations (Queensway). The crowds are dense and lines are long- even on Tuesday at 11am. However, the cashiers are efficient and lines move quickly. The bad: the employees at this locations are rude. They will snap at you for misunderstanding directions. Instead of saying 'could you please do x', they will say 'do x'. Their requests are often understandable and reasonable, but their conveyance is not. Like Costco. Wish I had a better location closer to home. read more

I got my membership with my husband here last weekend. Crazy busy location on a Saturday but that's kinda expected. What really annoys me is that their printer was down so we did not get a membership card. Instead we got a temporary card that was a sheet. It was confiscated by the cashier at the checkout. This evening (Wed Mar 6 2019) I called the store and the representative advised me that they still haven't fix the printer issue. Does that mean I have to walk to the service desk, wait in a line (Costco usually has long lines) for a sheet to be printed so I can shop at Costco on every single visit? Ridiculous! I did not say that though and I did realize the representative could not do anything, especially at the end of the day. I just thanked him and ended the call. However I am very frustrated. I thought customer service is Costco's strength but I can't even get my membership card after paying for it to fully explore its greatness! Sad read more

This isn't my "home-Costco-location" so when I do visit, it's actually because I'm craving their hot dogs and poutines and so happen to be in the area... So to be fair, this review isn't much about their warehouse and it's selection, but moreso about the eating area. Today's experience was very much like every other - I ordered my food items at their kiosk since they actively encourage customers to order at the register only if they're paying cash. Being a credit card user, I know well enough to help myself at the kiosks. To be honest, I much prefer it since it's really intuitive and easy to use, making it an efficient process. The place was buzzing with people today around 12:15-30 pm, but my order only took about 5 minutes to retrieve, quicker than usual. The hotdog was good as always, but the poutine was extra delicious today since they otut extra gravy that was piping hot which melted my cheese curbs really well, making me unintentionally get cheese pulls with every bite! In terms of cleanliness, this location really lacks compared to the Richmond Hill location. Not only are the tables and seating consistently dirty (since customers are sloppy and no staff members come to wipe the tables in between customers) but they always have a fly/mosquito issue... Even during the winter months. I have noticed that there's been a decrease in the abundance of pests since they rearranged some of the seating and garbage bins, but it's still an issue. Perhaps it'll slowly improve overtime, one can hope. read more

This Costco serves the North York area of GTA and is the one closest to a TTC subway station (by close I mean its a good 10 minute walk from Wilson Station) nevertheless this location makes its accessible to people who don't have cars or don't feel like getting a Zipcar :) Most of the items are similar to what is available at other Costco except this location carries a lot of Kosher items (meats, produce etc) In addition this is the only location where I found the smoked meat pizza from Dunn's (trust me folks this is one pizza you have to try as it is better than any other frozen pizza you will find in pretty much any grocery store!) The meat especially the steaks are the best value/quality proposition bar none in the city. The location along with the legendary return policy of Costco warrants a 4 star. read more

Review for Costco food court ONLY: Had the chance to try the following: Polish sausage with refillable drink, $1.50. Chicken wings for 10, $6.99. Unlike Costcos in London, England where condiments consist of ketchup/mustard/relish/onions/ bbq sauce/curry sauce and mayonnaise, this North York Costco never offered mayonnaise as part of their condiment offerings (ketchup/mustard/relish). Stay away from their chicken wings, they suck. They are not crispy and quite flavorless without the sauce or dips. The Polish sausage or hotdog in a bun was ok at $1.50. Just stick to that. My good friend Jess P earned a Pepper Pal Gold Star* for bringing me to Costco not once but twice in recent memory: letting me glob onto her membership and ride in her aging luxury vehicle. She's a 'co pro, where as I'm just a rookie... so she knows where everything is, and how to get in and out quickly. I, however, prefer to meander, and let the giant items on sale speak to me. She showed extreme patience with me the first time we went, and even more patience the second time when we brought along another friend, Monica N, who is more my style when it comes to shopping. My haul yesterday included vitamins, a bulk supply of Sharpie markers (with bonus metalics!), a lot of frozen berries and enough no name laundry detergent pod things for 90 loads. 90! I'm a sucker for box stores and this place is magical to me still. Ask me after my fifth visit, but I'm feeling pretty sure I'm going to need to get a bigger apartment and a membership. BLECH! Strictly a snack-bar / food review, in response to a group of online acquaintances of mine who keep trying to convince me that Costco snack bar is a good place to grab some lunch. I have managed to avoid having the experience up until now, but today I bit the bullet, and took up the challenge. I just knew this was a bad idea, thus why I had taken my time about even trying it, but curiosity got the better of me and I bravely ordered myself some fries with gravy, and a Polish sausage hot dog. My Scoring goes like this: *Polish Sausage Dog: +3*/5 - not a great dog by any means, but the flavor was decent and it was properly cooked and nice and juicy. It lost a couple of stars for the lackluster bun and the very weak selection of condiments, namely just mustard / relish / ketchup, with no onions or kraut or anything worthwhile. *French Fries -1*/5 - those horrendous McCain's crispy fries, frozen flavorless Potato Sticks apparently coated in Clark Griswold's "non-nutritive cereal varnish". *Gravy -3*/5 (yes, minus 3!) - congratulations to Costco for creating a gravy that is somehow completely devoid of any flavor whatsoever, there is not the slightest detectable shred of seasoning, beefiness, nor any hint of tomato-ey flavour, despite the weird Rosy pink color. The combination of these fries and this gravy was staggeringly 100% flavor-free, setting a brand new standard for the term empty calories, and likely making the lackluster dog seem to taste much better than it actually did. The fact that this place continues to get positive reviews for its snack-bar food can only be explained by assuming that it exists in the same Alternate Dimension that makes Pizza-Pizza Ontario's most popular pizza. So, totalling up the score, 3 -1 -3 = -1* So apparently Costco owes ME one star!! read more

Going there on Saturday evening is like paying a bad karma. First you need to chase and conquer a parking spot as closest to the entrance as possible (for sure you'll acquire a lot of unnecessary products "just because you are already in there"... and you wouldn't want to go back just for one thing...). The next step has to be with finding where you put the membership card, after all, you don't want to piss the crow behind you who is making line just for going in... (do they give away free stuff, or what is the magic in there???). You definitely can't go there if you are in a hurry or if you are hungry; you would hate to be attracted for one of those huge pieces of junk food and forget why you first went there... I think that in this gray and sad warehouse is where I've seen the biggest and most heterogeneous crowd without being Holidays. Which doesn't make sense because lets face it: The ambiance is hideous... Is like if they were torturing your senses because you are "saving" money!!! After surviving 2 of the coldest winters recorded in Canada during the last 25 years, I completely understand the importance of having supplies during that season. However, during Summer, we should avoid buying bulk produce and try to support local products from Farmer's Markets. Plus, as consumers, we should make conscious choices about what we are really eating. Would you keep buying Salmon, even when you know it's been genetically alterated?? Would you eat a "FRankenfish"??? Are you going to keep buying those frozen crab legs even when it's known the specie is endangered? I found a really interesting study made by Greenpeace org in 2013, in where Costco doesn't look good at all... The animal products they sell in bulk should meet ethical and ecological standards... A paragraph of the study by GreenPeace: [..."One of the most critical components of a responsible and ethical seafood operation is also one of the simplest: stopping the sale of unsustainable seafood. Costco breaks all rules. When every retailer out there has been gouging us for years, along came Costco and cut the middle man and started to offer bulk sizes, at simply amazing prices. They have been a success story, and I'm happy for them. True, when you buy at Costco, you may end up stuck with a lifetime supply of razor blades. Or you may end up with a bag of cashew nuts so big that you'll hang your head in shame at the cash counter. But it's a steal, so who cares? Bought bed and 2 metal storage racks for garage. Order was cancelled without reason given. Had to fight to get membership back AND THE BANK DOES NOT KNOW WHERE THE $$$ for wallbed is. This location is the closest one to where I live at the moment. If you are one of the few people who have never shopped at Costco before, then you need to have a membership in order to shop there. Then you'll be able to purchase items in bulk enough to feed 10 people even though you are a family of 2. This is a standard location. Parking can be problematic during peak hours and there's a Home Depot and Best Buy near by. It is located close to Yorkdale Mall. There's a food counter selling their usual items like hot dogs, pizza, sandwich, chicken fingers and fries. They now sell wings too but be careful, it's a salt bomb. Unfortunately, I don't think this location offers anything unique but also it doesn't lack anything compared to other locations too. You won't be impressed or disappointed. I love Costco. I buy health products, apparel, special gluten free products, beauty products and discounts at exhibits and the prices are unreal. The prices are much less than you would pay at any retailer. I also buy food but I really bought the card to save on apparel and gift cards like movie tickets, going to the ROM and Cirque Du Soleil. I love Costco and I couldn't be happier with my membership. I also bought my Blendtec blender at Costco and saved a fortune. Costco is really great! Standard Costco store near where I live. Can be very busy on weekends which makes for a parking nightmare thankfully there is an adjacent parking lot for Home Depot if you do not mind the walk. They have the standard Costco food which is on par to what it should be. Great place to go to establish a new home or if you have a large household. Membership starts at $60 however they do run Groupon specials that can bring the cost down and includes a $20 gift card. read more

The Costco restaurant is very very affordable as you can eat a hot dog and a pop for just 1.5 bucks which is almost nothing. Furthermore, a whole cooked chicken is 7.99 which is just the price of raw chicken. And french fries with gravy toping almost 3 times bigger than Mcdonalds' for just 2.5. I definitely recommend eating at Costco which is economical and at the same time healthy and full of fun. read more

Really disappointed with this Costco, upon arrival I noticed everyone ahead of me walked in without a breeze so I continued my walk in and the lady stopped me and asked for my membership. I showed her and looked back and realized she didn't ask ANYONE else for their membership either so it made me feel horrible and outcasted. Secondly before I even came to the place, I called in to ask if they had the Kate Spade throws in stock as it was known to be sold out very quickly and the customer service rep assured me there was 77 units in stock and if I went right away I'd be able to grab one for myself. WRONG. Walked around the area for bedding and stuff dumbfounded for 10 minutes and gave up just to ask one of the staff and was told they were sold out since last week. I stood there with the ??????? expression on my face and was pretty annoyed at this point and left. Hope the communication and consistency grows to help this place become better. read more

The optometrist staff is not qualified enough to answer all your questions so be prepared to loose valuable time. Think twice before you book. I had mentioned before taking an appointment that I wear lenses. It is only during the appointment I was told that they cannot give lense prescription so I will have to go for another test to get that. What a waste of time. I was double-charged for marinara sauce and didn't notice until later.I called Costco customer service about it and they rudely cut me off. I then called the Billy Bishop warehouse to get the overcharge reversed. Although purchases are on the warehouse computer, they wouldn't make the correction by phone. I was told to go to the warehouse and line up at the returns counter to get this done. so I lined up at returns, which took 15 minutes. I understand that mistakes happen but a customer shouldn't be inconvenienced because of it. Warehouse shopping with absolutely no customer service or accountability. I'm gonna give this location a 1 star for it's policy, rather than any service in particular. While I am Canadian, I've been overseas working as an Expat for more than a decade. As my fiancee is a foreigner, we wanted to go inside to see what all the rage is about. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to go inside and see what is on offer inside the store. You have to show your membership card in order to get in which I am sure all the readers already know. We thought a simple explanation that we were new to Toronto and wanted to see what goods were offered before dishing out $55 dollars for a membership was reasonable, but apparently not... their solution - wait in the long lineup (It's Saturday & Easter Weekend) and once you go in if you are unhappy we will refund your membership fee... Fair enough, it's a membership club & they are permitted to have their own rules - overall result - more than $1,000 dollars spent today at other "big box" retailers that could have been costco's. During my MBA studies, I did several case studies on the Walmart/Costco rivalry and I simply had much higher expectations in terms of service levels from higer-paid Costco employees. For now I will continue to give other "big box" retailers my business... Makes me wonder what the Lifetime Value of Each Customer is at Costco and how much this mistake will cost them in the long-term. read more

Who does not like to look at Beasty sized items?! My favorite stuff to buy here is honey, pesto, carrot juice, cereal, sugar and a fan. Yes, I bought myself a fan with a remote control for $32! The fan was a bit too good to be true. When I put it together some pieces were not working properly, but it was not something I could not creatively fix (in other words, who was going to take me to exchange/return it?) Cafeteria: I love the IKEA hot dogs and ice cream, and Costco has nothing on them. Ikea is way cheaper, and they taste so much better. Now I finally know where "Kirkland"products comes from.. I have NEVER been to Costcos before. My mom has a membership and alot of my friends also do.. So I was dragged here yesterday to do grocceries.. First of all you need a Membership card just to go here.. you have to show them it just to get inside the store!! Then you grab this GIGANTIC cart and head into this GIGANTIC store that looks like a warehouse.. TONES of people.. ALOT of carts.. LOTS of stuff.. They have swarvoski crystals all the way down to Elizabeth Arden cosmetics- wow! Very impressed.. Alot of free food samples.. Cafeteria thing for when you leave from walking for a good couple hours browsing all the interesting things you would never think you could see in a store that looks like a giant warehouse! -be prepared for lots of people -lots of food -lots of carts -lots of sales people -lots of pushing -lots of BULK items -lots of HUGE items like GIANT MUSTARD or TONES OF NUTS! read more

We just got a membership at this Costco a few weeks ago, at the time my wife didn't have her id on her so they couldn't print her a membership. We added her name saying she would go back showing Id with same address. Today she went, waited in line 30 Minutes, then they refused saying I had to be there as well even though we had put her name down, it's the same home address and they instructed us to do exactly this. Really? Offering no compensation, alternative or explanations other than this is policy? after that is exactly what you told us to do. I occasionally pass by this Costco location when I am in the area. I must say it's a very busy store!! The huge parking lot was crowded in the mid afternoon with cars lined up trying to get a spot. The selection of goods here is similar to the Costco location in Mississauga except for more Kosher foods with the store location being the closest one to Bathurst St. The one thing they have here that I cannot find in the westend Costco locations is the 1.5L Nestle bottled water. The rest of the store experience is pretty similar to other Costco locations. read more

Cons: Customer service (new members/returns service desk in this case) were rude and unprofessional. Rachel G. in particular tried to up sell the executive membership to us and got really belligerent when we declined the offer. She even went so far as to state she didn't like "non-members". She seemed like she needed a cookie and a hug. Pros: - Great savings and quality for produce and meat. - Depending on the stock, they also have some really great savings in common household goods. read more

Slight preference to this location over Etobicoke for two reasons: 1. It is in a large shopping area with other stuff nearby. 2. It seems less full of pushy people and brats whose parents need to have them on leashes. Maybe Vaughanians are more laid back. On the other hand, the checkers and service in the Etobicoke store are faster and better. read more
