This was originally a 4 Star review for the products Johnvince provides but the customer service here is horrendous!!! Especially the Indian cashier that grabs the money out of your hands as you are counting and just throws your change into the counter. Holy F'n sh@t, even a disgruntled McDonald's employee would not try that type of behavior... this really leaves a bad taste and makes me think twice of going back and recommending this to others... read more

You really need to go here to discover the awesomeness yourself. Basically this is a HUGE warehouse-sized space with bulk food. But it's so much cooler than that. The bulk food is sold by weight so it's all in containers where you scoop what you want into a bag. (Definitely check out the pictures I posted!) The foods include: -Candy including candy bars (which I've never seen in bulk) and unusual gummy items (like fried eggs and belly buttons). -Chocolate -Snacks and nuts -Dried spices And REALLY random stuff like: -Powdered cheese sauce -Powdered beef broth And YUMMY looking stuff like: -Giant pieces of peanut brittle (it's weird to see something so big that is still bought by weight) Remember those places called "Sweet Factory" that were in every mall in the early 90s where they had all sorts of candy in every color and you just turned the crank for the amount you wanted and then were overcharged by weight? It's like that - but with ridiculously random things like powdered chicken gravy. I'm still really not doing this place justice - you better look at the photos. Imagine hundreds upon hundreds of random foods sold by weight. I've never actually bought anything here. I just like to run around and see what they have. Their prices seem reasonable, and they have some items that are so good my mother-in-law always comes here when she's in town. They also have a deli in the back and a few food products sold the "regular way" (a.k.a. not weighed at the counter). But one other can't miss thing is the giant statue of Mr. Peanut behind plexiglass when you first come in. I know it doesn't sound like it but it's really awesome - trust me. read more

Note: If these places appeal to you, please allow yourself enough time to check out the whole store, e.g. definitely 1hr+! Bulk Barn...on 'roids! Plus, they have a produce/fridge section too. Selection is second to none! Tons of coffee beans, loose leaf teas (boxes too!), spices, nuts, tons of various raisins, chocolates, candies, condiments, fill-your-own bottles of olive oil, DIY peanut butter, etc. etc. There are some samples that are put out. The only reason why it's not a 5* is that: 1. YES, as per the other reviews, I did see customers "sample" from the bins. Not sure what the protocol was, but there were signs that just said to use the scoops; 2. Some items are left en plein air and there were some flies; 3. Similar to Bulk Barn, some items have a quicker turn-around than others. That's it! read more

Good nut selection, but a lot of them are not fresh and probably expired. The Floor supervisor asks customers to refrain from trying nuts, but the owner not ashamed to sell bad-smelling stale products for such high prices. read more

If you love chocolate, candy, and chips like I do and you consider Bulk Barn to be heaven... Make your way here ASAP (although mind their annoying hours). JohnVince seems like 100x the size of a Bulk Barn and is 30-70% cheaper. They also have the biggest variety imaginable... basically every snack you can think of. They even have dedicated grocery aisles for buying "actual food". It is really fun walking aisle by aisle deciding between chocolate covered almonds or toblerones or triple chocolate covered malt balls (get them all). Plantain chips, cassava, vegetable chips such as okra or beet etc, and nuts of all sorts available here. Also gummies galore! The only downside is it's annoying when kids or even adults dig their dirty hands in the bins to sample, I mean if you are sampling, that is fine with me... but at least use the scooper and put it into your plastic bag first! They also own Mr Peanut/Planters as they have the plant right beside which you can peek in to see them working away on making Peanut Butter. Lastly, whenever you are at your local Metro/Loblaws/Wholefoods, at the bulk section of the store, you may notice the bulk bin labels of "John Vince Corn Nuts" or "John Vince Chocolate Almonds".. now you know where to get it directly, and for so much cheaper! I come here every chance I get when in this neighbourhood. Chocolates of every brand and colour and flavour?!?! What isn't there to love! read more

This place is located near my work so I come by on my lunch hour once a week and ogle the candy bins. Basically, I can guarantee you've never seen a bulk store quite like this one. The selection is second-to-none, and the food generally appears fresh. There is a small produce section, which is handy when I need to pick up a last-minute ingredient for dinner, and there is also a small cafeteria at the back, which looks like it specializes in meat sandwiches (not sure, I never bought anything from there). Additionally, there are countless shelves FULL of other stock; canned goods, special dietary products (gluten-free items), and that sauce you had that one time that you've been looking for ever since! That being said, I'm a bit wary of any open bins or uncovered food like dried fruit and such. I regularly see customers snacking from the bins (in spite of multiple signs forbidding this behavior, along with numerous video cameras). I've never seen mice, rats, or any other "critters" in the store, but I have my doubts that they can really cover all the food safely each night. Then again, I'm kind of squeamish when it comes to food being handled; I guess I have higher standards than some. When it comes to the open bins, I stick to the wrapped candy or chocolate. Anyhow, I still shop here (from the covered/sealed bins) because the selection is just amazing and the prices really aren't bad either. There are all kinds of specialty products to be had, but don't bother asking anyone where stuff is because most of the staff can't speak English and the some that do aren't particularly eager to help. I've tried asking staff where things are on 3 separate occasions and finally struck gold on my search for Tahini with an English-speaking manager. You are best to take some time and learn the layout of the store for future visits - I'm still finding new items I didn't know they had. read more

Love it. It's a bulk food paradise in here. The quality looks much better than Bulk Barn. The raisins are huge. The trail mix options are delightful and they're very reasonably priced. Some items worth noting as unique are the cucumber and tomato chips, the machines that make peanut butter and almond butter to order (self serve), and store-made granola bars/squares. Mom and I were in there for a while. We bought over $100 of stuff and then doubled back again so mom could get pistachios for someone. At $6.99/lb for jumbo pistachios, I'd say it's a pretty good deal. They also had gift platters/baskets filled with nuts starting at $19.99. They're surprisingly fair priced and very pretty. read more

I was shopping in this store for dark chocolate, unsalted raw and roasted pistachios , dry roasted peanuts, and quite many other items for last 5 years, and I'm always getting good price and quality on what i was looking. I have periodically made purchases at JVF over the years. Most of their merchandise is okay if you don't mind the open bins in a largely unsupervised store and a staff that may be less than helpful. Their nuts, however, are to be wary of. More often than not stale nuts are mixed with fresh nuts. That includes peanuts, cashews, almonds and pecans. One time I called the Department of Heath because there were insects in the pecans. JVF, who had refused me a refund,was made to get rid of their entire stock according to what the D of H reported to me. I got my refund. JVF products are found in a number of retail outlets including some supermarkets, sometimes under different labels. Beware. They are just as bad, often quite foul. Check the labels and beware unlabeled or no name packages. Planters Peanuts used to represent the ultimate in quality peanuts. It was taken over by JVF a number of years ago and Planters Peanuts are now less than mediocre. read more

John Vince is such a fun bulk store. And not only a bulk store, a planters peanut factory! How great is that? I trekked up to John Vince for my wedding's candy bar. I wanted lots of fun candy in huge amounts - this was the place. It was so inexpensive, the candy was fresh and there was a massive selection. This is huge! I popped in the big blue tent before entering the store, and my buggy was already loaded in just a few minutes. It was so much fun shopping here. I bought lot of snacks and drinks. THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD!!! Seriously if you love bulk barn, sugar mountain any of that fun stuff and think they're the best, they're not! (sorry) Jonvince takes the cake :) It's like if sugar mountain and bulkbarn had a baby- a very oversized magical fantastic amazing baby This place is basically the size of a grocery store! My mom has been taking me here since I was very young and literally my eyes pop every time! Anything you can think of, they have. I'm not kidding- ANYTHING! Last time I went I was pleased to discover they had GIANT dark chocolate covered pretzels and icy squares the key to my heart aka the best chocolate ever. SOLD!! They have every gummy you can name, from far and wide, you think you've seen it all but you haven't. I know that at Bulk Barn every single container says no sampling- well at Jonvince there's no signs so I totally do but I have no idea if you're supposed to! But realistically, some of the things they sell come in like 10 different flavours so it only really makes sense to try one before committing to a whole bag and then being stuck with it if you hate it!! They're not only great for bulk food, Jonvince has a whole array of awesome stuff like a freshly made peanut butter machine that you can dispense into a container. They also sell every flavour of Arizona cans you can think of. Want a chocolate bar or bag of chips? They got you covered and for a very reduced rate!! I could go on for days but I'll spare you my wackiness and leave this review off with my encouragement for you to check it out if you haven't already. Love this place. I live in Scarborough but drive here at least once a month! They have everything you need in Bulk food... Personally I visit for the No sugar added chocolate! Great prices and more options that you can imagine. If you need it they most likely have it... From flour to soup mix, Candy and chocolate, bread, there is even a hot table in the back! Only masked customers are allowed in the sore. A rude employee told me I HAVE to use a mask all the time when I go out of my house and was so angry becouse " I put her into risk ", by not using a mask. Since I had no mask, she told me I have to buy a mask from John Vince, cost 1 $ each, or leave the store and next time " bring your own mask". So, I left the store and I will never come back. If they want masked customers, they have to provide masks for free, as others stores do. Faster banckrupcy ! read more

This place is probably only good for the nuts, which are sold like bulk barn in large open bins. Everything else I have tried here tasted stale or was expired. I am not even sure if the nuts are cheapest . I would rather drive up Dufferin to Highland Farms or Canadian Superstore where freshness and product selection are much better. I have not tested their return policy, but this place gives me the vibe that they would hassle you. read more

My husband discovered this place and now we shop there every month. I typically buy all nuts, dry fruits, and sweets there, the prices are at least 20-30% lower than in supermarkets (we usually shop at Longos or Sobeys, so I can compare with these). I also like the variety, you just cannot find so much choice in the supermarket. For example, they sell whole cranberries that are much tastier and less sugary than your typical Ocean Spray crushed ones. You have to be careful though, first time shopping there I was lured by low prices and bought too much of macadamia nuts and pine nuts - those acquired bitter taste after 4 weeks. Same goes for cashews and walnuts so don't be greedy and buy only a month supply. One big problem with this place is chocolates, they have great variety and our whole family are chocolate lovers. Regardless how much we buy it never lasts for more than 2 weeks - I now have to portion the sweets and hide excess in places that my husband and kids cannot find :-) read more

This store is like bulk barn, but with a greater selection of candy and other items required in bulk, like various flours and spices. Also, bulk barn doesn't carry almond flour, but this place does. It'a also never busy, no long line-ups. The prices are fantastic - for example, theres this one honey that's 9.99 at Yummy Market, 5.99 here (regular price). read more

The selection is great hands down but the big problem is that if the product you seek is not covered then some of the customers if they're hungry will just take their hands and dig into these bins and eat the food. I was there the other day And I saw this lady walked by and there are some certain type of seeds she grabbed a whole bunch and and put her hand to her mouth to eat a few and she threw the rest back in the bin. This is definitely not sanitary and I won't buy anything there that's not covered and then even If it is they just go underneath the lid. I 'discovered' JohnVince just recently after having lived in Toronto for a long time! Unbelievably good selection of items, good prices (less than Bulk Barn- sometimes MUCH less), but be sure to look at the use-by date on pre-packaged things. I'm a regular customer now. read more

A horrible store! The customer service is NOT existing there. The staff is rude, the product is of a bad quality in an unsanitary condition! The appliances they sell are all defective and the store manager is perfctly aware of it. I purchased a can of cinnamon coated nuts from a Superstore in Nova Scotia while on Vacation. My husband bite on one of the small nuts and broke a tooth. We cut the vacation short to get it taken care of by our dentist and it required a cap to the tune of $1000.00 US dollars. My husband had no dental insurance so I called the company and worked with a rep from the Toronto head office. We sent to them the x rays and per their request all the dental records for the prior three years. I only asked that they "in good faith" assume some responsibility for the product. I asked only for a portion of the bill to be picked up by them. They got a dentist to say that the tooth was comprised prior to this. My dentist said it was not. This is a company that should show some responsibility to the consumer, This was over a six month period with many phone calls not returned. We ended up with interest on the bill. Beware of the hard pieces in the bottom of the bags or cans for filler. You wont get anything from them when you damage your teeth and end-up with a big bill. read more

I purchased two large containers of sunflower seeds which were promoting on the green label "free from 101 artificial ingredients and preservatives". Obviously promoting a chemical free product. I got home and discovered on the ingredients list two bonus ingredients in my sunflower seeds. Corn maltodextrin and titanium dioxide...seriously? on my seeds? Yuck, I through them in the trash. In my opinion the labeling is intentionally deceptive. read more
