Cothron's is AMAZING!! They are completely focused on delivering excellent customer service and the highest level of customer satisfaction. We were having our locks all changed and we had a problem when the glass shattered on one our older doors due to some issues with putting in the lock. Cothron's was so great and they took full responsibility to get it fixed. They sent out a new locksmith who fixed the original problem, which I wasn't sure could be fixed, but he did it. Also, the glass replacement crews was amazing, as they had to not only replace the glass, the but trim around the glass. They even worked on Saturday to ensure that it was done and completed in a timely manner. It was quite a job to get it done and to ensure it looked the same as the other door. They did it and I am SOOOO pleased. I will continue to work with this AWESOME locksmith and would highly recommend them to anyone. I tried to use this company but ran into an difficult person on the phone. I said I wanted to get someone to reinforce my front door and she said "okay" and nothing else. After a long pause she asked what I meant by that and I told her I wanted to get the front door jam reinforced against being kicked in. She said "okay" again and nothing else. After a second long awkward silence, I just hung up. It was like pulling teeth. I assumed since they are a locksmith company they would have some response when a customer calls wanting a locksmith type service. I will take my business to a different company since there are plenty of options out there. They may want to talk to her about customer service because she is losing them business. read more

Used to never have a problem with them. Went to get a replacement key on a 26 yr old Jeep. The only key I had was a reproduction itself and initially the keys they made didn't work so they tried again. Success we had keys that opened the door lock and started it while there, and even drove home using that new key. Got home and took it out but couldn't get it to work again. It'd open the door locks, albeit with some struggle and wouldn't even go in the hatch lock at all. Looked it up and appeared they gave me the wrong key #. Went back and told them but they weren't having it, even told them for that model year there was a different key # that Jeep said to use, but all they said was it was the same key....how's it the same if Jeep had a different # for that specific year and tried to tell em just to lube the lock or rebuild it...IDK. Asked if I could just get a refund since they're no use to me if they're not working anymore and they tried to deny it saying it worked, although they worked no more. That's the point of having a receipt right?? Guy was a bit snippy but just went ahead and gave me a refund. I was being nice the whole time so not sure what I may have taken him away from, but whatever. At this point I'll just not go back to Cothron's anymore....they're not what they used to be it seems. Update: went to another locksmith and they validated that I was right needing a different key than what Cothron's said.....if someone at Cothron's actually reads this, tell your people not to be so adamant that you know everything and tell a customer it's the same when it isn't. Local Ford dealer said I needed to replace both lock cylinders on the doors to the tune of $500.00. Cothron's said they would do it for around $400. But when Kevin at Cothron's got a look at it he said he wanted to try flushing them out first. Now they work better than ever.....no charge. We were having trouble with our combination lock on the backdoor -- it was spinning and we could use it to lock or unlock and the previous owners didn't give us keys. We called Cothron's and first of all they refused to give us a timeframe for when they would come. I had other things to do including picking up a kid from school and they REFUSED to give us a timeframe even day of. So of course they guy came when I was out. He didn't have the code to check the lock or even seem to know why he was at my house. I got home and he was just making keys for the back door. I said do I have keys to the front door and he said I don't know do you? Not funny. Plus he didn't fix the spinning lock. it is still broken. He said well nobody could tell him the code so he couldn't check it. But when I got home I could have told him the code. He worked it a couple of times and shrugged and said seems fine. BUT IT ISN'T. I recently went to Cothron's to have 2 door locks for my Ford F-150 re-tumbled to match my ignition key. They did not have to remove them from the doors, I did this myself. The technician said I needed to leave them so he could work on them. When I came back to pick them up the bill was $106 !!! Are you kidding ?!? I've had door locks re-tumbled in the past and it did NOT cost half this much, if it had I would have never returned. It used to be reasonable but not any more!! I had no idea that they were using GOLD tumblers in their locks !! I'm done with you guys and I'm telling all my friends. read more

Our non-profit has used Cothron's for more than a decade for our security locks, so when I had a problem with the lock and key for a used locking cabinet we purchased, I knew we could go to them for help. I removed the locking mechanism from the cabinet and took it to Cothron's (after four other people here had tried to make it work). I am very impressed with Cothron's service. I called today because the latch wouldn't come out of the strike plate; my door was totally unusable. I talked to a lady about it and I expected to have to make an appointment at the end of the week or next week. Well, no, not at all! About 45 minutes later Jack was at my door and he was able to take out the old door knob, freeing my door and installed the new door knob within about 30 minutes. I was so happy! I tried reaching out to someone else in Round Rock and that experience was not pleasant. Cothron's has been in Round Rock for many years and should be everyone's go to place for help with lock issues. They are the oldest and they are the best! read more

WARNING!!! do not go to the Round Rock location unless you like getting screwed by a couple of clowns Kevin cut me a duplicate key and when I got all the way home to try it out it did not work I called up and he claimed that he warned me the key was to worn out and and that I needed to remove my door lock mechanism to bring it in so he could fix it that its not to hard to do he made every up excuse possible finally after a semi heated conversation the best he could do is refund my money after destroying a brand new chipped key so I had to drive all the way back into round rock to eat a screwed up key and get a crappy refund without any apologies. thanks for nothing! 0 star review all the way read more

I contacted Cothran's to change the keys for locks I had no keys for, to install a few new locks for the same brand of existing locks and a few other things. Jeff, the technician, was professional, interactive and had a great idea on moving an existing lock and doorknob that has had hard use to a less used door and putting one of the new locks/door knobs on the door we use all the time. After trying all the Big stores around Round Rock this place was my last resort. Had Kevin make me 5 keys, and BOOM!!! they all worked, Finally!. Kevin was able to explain why all other keys wouldn't work for me and had me try there keys and even offered to take a look at my deadbolt for possible problems.
