Been here many many many times, and they are pretty darn consistent with their food. They have really, really good shrimp! Don't get the shrimp burrito though, it's like 8 shrimp drowned in rice. Try out their Surf 'n Turf burrito. What I've eaten that's good: Fish Burrito/Tacos Carne Asada Burrito/Tacos California Burrito Surf 'n Turf Burrito Rolled Tacos What was not so good: Shrimp Burrito- filled with rice, not shrimp. Chicken Tostada- chicken is drenched in a mediocre hot sauce. Their salsa is very good, lots of flavor. Their tacos are really 2 tacos, they give you tons of meat and 2 tortillas so you can split it up. Their guacamole isn't as good, it's not bad- but other places have much better guacamole. Hmm. Based on the fact that this is in Encinitas and open 24 hours I think it should be averaging more like 4 stars. Cotixan is pretty good--and I think that the fact they're open late (where else in inland-Encinitas can you go late at night?) make it pretty useful. Their bean-and-cheese burrito, breakfast burritos, and rolled tacos are solid, and actually their shrimp items are WAY better than they should be. The chicken is pretty good--we'll say average. Their carne asade is pretty tough though IMO--which rules out a lot of stuff for me (including the "chips" and "nachos" dishes). As other reviewers have mentioned their salsas are good too. I haven't tried carnitas here yet (if it's on the menu--I haven't looked for it). This place gets an extra star from me for being open between 11pm-6am. read more

This is definitely a welcomed addition to this section of Encinitas. This particular strip of El Camino is chock full of chains. Rubios. Daphne's. KFC. Chipotle. Taco Bell. Jack in the Box. This location is super clean. It's got that freshly painted orange look to it. The tables were clean and "prior patron sauce free". My fiancee and I each had a carne asada burrito. They were massive is size and served very hot. My first bite was full of those burnt grizzly pieces of meat. It crunched and tasted like crap. It definitely got better as I ate. They cram a lot into the tortilla; meat, cheese and guacamole. The hot sauce is good too. Very spicy and almost creamy. With the exception of that first burnt bite, this place makes a damn good burrito. read more

My fellow Yelpers Andy H., Alex R. Maria C. and I headed over to Cotixan after the fantabulous Yelp Raps party and we all ordered the Cotixan Fries. The place was overall pretty clean compared to other Mexican places I've been to. When our orders were ready, I noticed there was too much sour cream on the carne asada fries. I thought the sour cream dump truck came by. The meat and guacamole were good but the fries were a bit on the soft side and could've been fried a bit more. I'd come back to Cotixan but next time I'll try their rolled tacos.=) read more

This was my second time ever down in the San Diego area. My first time in SD was a few years ago, and somehow I managed to not eat any mexican food on my trip. Everyone keeps talking about how awesome the taquerias are down in San Diego, but I somehow managed to let this experience slip by me. This trip I was on a mission. I managed to eat at a taqueria every day of our short weekend trip on the hunt for the best burrito, and I found it. We were coming back from North Park late at night (2am~ish) trying to find this Krispy Kreme that Google Maps supposedly said was in the area (it was so wrong.) As we were driving by on El Camino, we saw the Cotixan restaurant, and noticed it was open (24/7.) I was thinking, yeah, mental note that's pretty awesome. Not too far away from my boyfriends moms in Carlsbad (we were visiting.) The next night after seeing Avatar, it was late and we hadn't eaten dinner yet. We remembered this place from the night before, so we decided to go check it out. We both ordered the chicken fajita burrito and shared a quesadilla. I have to say, this was the best chicken fajita burrito I've ever had. The quesadilla size was extremely generous as well, it was more than enough for the both of us. The guacamole was fresh and the grilled vegetables were absolutely delicious. Salsa wasn't so bad either, had a lot of flavor (although I prefer my salsa to be what I consider to be "nuclear-hot" but it was still good.) I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some good mexican food. Next time I'm in the area I will try their tacos. Saw a couple of other customers eating the rolled tacos and they looked absolutely delicious. read more

I came here for a chimichanga with only rice, beans and sour cream in it and it was almost $9. They rang me up for a beef chimichanga and added extra money for the rice and the beans and the sour cream even though I got no meat. Crazy. I happened to talk to the manager of the store who said they guy rang me up wrong and he'd send me some coupons. He never did. It's not about the $ it's about the principle... Don't say you'll do something if you won't! This place gets 2 stars despite the customer service because the food is pretty decent. read more

First visit: Went by in the evening to find out how long it would take to get six breakfast burritos in the morning. They said around ten minutes, but offered for me to order them that night, pay for them, and tell them what time to have them ready. The next day, I walked in at 6:30 and the guy behind the counter said, "Six breakfast burritos?" I was out the door quickly so I could meet my coworkers by 7:00 to watch the US play a World Cup match. I liked the machaca burrito better, but the "standard" breakfast burrito was also tasty. Next visit: Went by on a Friday night to get dinner for me and my husband. The fajitia burrito with chicken was delicious and a very generous size. I got it as a combo and only ate half of everything that night. The rest was lunch the next day. My husband got one pollo asado taco and one carne asada taco and loved both. Can't wait to try more items on the menu. It's also really nice that they are open 24 hours because most places in Encinitas are dark after 9:00, at least the affordable ones. read more

I have eaten here before and had a great experience. Went there yesterday and the food was horrible!!! I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and they gave me what I was thought was a mushroom burrito. I took it to the lady and said "what is this?" She said it's completely burned chorizo. Why would they of even served this? Less than three minutes later an older male employee angrily yells "chorizo burrito". First, there is no way he could of made it that fast. Then I realize he took the burrito removed part of the burnt chorizo and filled the same tortilla with some new filling and some of the old. WTF??? Why would they do that? At this point not worth saying anything. I'll NEVER go there again!! What a shame!!! Apparently, I'm not the only one as the reviews recently reflect my experience yesterday. There are lots of really good Mexican places to choose.. hopefully the owners will read these reviews and address these problems. read more

I use to eat here often, from now on I am boycotting it. I am giving it a fair 2 because for the chain itself Cotixan is or use to be good. I remember ordering certain items that have been removed from the menu from the Clairemont location. The last few trips I have been to the Encinitas one has been terrible. I ordered 5 rolled tacos. The cheese was ice cold, like ice cold... Like not thawed ICED cold. But , the corn tortillas were plenty hot as they burnt through the styrofoam and leaked out into the bag which in turn as I pull it out of the bag to eat it sour cream cheese and grease got all over my shirt and lap. The funny thing is this has happened before I sent them an email asking if they can make sure they put wax paper down in the container to prevent that burn through, and I ordered it once or twice in between and it was fine but not the last time ! The Carne Asada burrito is just that- Carne Asada it just had Carne Asada that tasted like it was cooked the night before... Yeah I got sick that day. Bad decision on my part. I have had a California Burrito that the fries were COLD again ice cold ... They have messed up on a friends order several times. Overall, nevermind it gets a 1 this place is terrible, I only go here because it had some nostalgic connection to late night burrito runs with my current wife then girlfriend in college ! read more

Good service but poor food quality. I've eaten here twice. Both times I had two fish tacos. The first meal was decent typical late night grungy so cal mexican food, the second was actually of noticeably poor quality. ;) I did not get sick either time. But, along the time I had the second meal a friend told me he got pretty sick from here and I have not been hungry enough to go back. Directly across the street at Rubios is much better in terms of pure food quality, but their hours are not 24hr like Cotixan's. They are not as authentic of course, but if Cotixan's food is gross it is not authentic either in a completely different way. I'll be making the drive to Filiberto's from now on; even if Cotixan is closer. Once I have bad food I try to never go back. read more

Now, I consider myself a taco shop connoisseur, and Cotixan simply can't be beaten. Sure, it is a couple bucks more expensive than your standard -erto's or wherever you heathens go to for midnight tacos, but the quality is worth the price. The salsas are also wonderful, and there are plentiful pickled Jalapenos on the salsa bar. The rice is also quite excellent, as opposed to most taco shop rice. Not a wet, runny mess like the standard. The ingredients are always fresh, and it actually tastes just as awesome sober as it does at 2:30 AM! All in all, if you want some quick, delicious Mexican and don't want to be eating questionable Carne Asada, this is the place for you. Ordered in the drive thru window and once I got to the window to pay a guy with tattoos down to his fingers asks me what I ordered and I repeated my ENTIRE ORDER to him and he then takes my card to pay and doesn't tell me the total price and DOESN'T EVEN GIVE ME A RECIEPT. Hands me a bag a food and doesn't say a word. I get home its a BOILED CHICKEN BURRITO when I paid for a STEAK BURRITO it couldn't be more of a shock that this is considered a place of business. They should have their food handling license revoked and the Better Business Bureau to rate this establishment because that is illegal to take payment without DISCLOSING THE AMOUNT BEING CHARGED good luck with a lawsuit. read more

I've been to a lot of other Cotixans around San Diego and have found that each varies in flavor even when ordering the same thing. At this one, I was disappointed in the California burrito, BUT I was pleasantly surprised by their surf & turf burrito. The shrimp was large and plentiful, the carne asada was juicy and tender, and everything else from the rice to the sauce was all nicely balanced. I also really like their Supreme Nachos - these are consistently good across the majority of Cotixans. They never skimp out on ingredients and it's such a good bang for your buck. Burritos are almost never more than $8 and they can feed two. Plates are also reasonable. The drive thru is kind of slow but they double-check to make sure your order is right. read more

I am a proud frequenter of Coti since '97. My love began on Genesee, but where the hot sauce flows, I will go, and so I write this for the Encinitas location because it is the one I now visit almost exclusively. Consider this a general review for all the official Cotixans... The best way to understand the addiction is to imagine their carne asada burrito as some beautiful picturesque scenery and their red sauce as your favorite social network. Yes, you admire in awe the scene and can fully appreciate the mouth-watering sunset, but what you're really there for is to post a photo and horde in the likes. And then you D-E-V-O-U-R those likes. You can't get enough of them. You start snapping and post more and more photos because THE LIKES YOU'RE GETTING AREN'T ENOUGH AND YOU NEED MORE. YOU. NEED. MORE. P.S. This place is better than the average mexican food drive through. I've been here a few times now after seeing it on yelp. I have tried the carne asada burrito which was pretty good, the rolled tacos which were also good, and the surf and turf burrito which sounded good but I wouldn't get again. I really like their red salsa, it's better than most. I haven't tried the green one but it's nice to have options since most places just throw red sauce in little containers in your bag but this place offers red or green. I'd definitely choose this place over other late night drive throughs but its nowhere near where I live. Nice place to go if you live near by or want some fast food while in the area. read more

Best 24-hour food in Encinitas! As good as it gets for 3am. This is definitely better than the other fast food drive-through options. But aside from that, the food is good enough to beat many of the other taco shops in the area. I love their salsa verde! The pollo asado burrito is a generous amount of grilled chicken with avocado; a healthy protein to carb ratio. If you want a large combo meal the two chicken taco combo is good. Another goodie! Its one of the only Mexican places in North County San Diego that actually has real hot sauce that has a kick to it. I secretly dream of bringing a Thermos of it back home and drinking it throughout the week. Like the other reviews say, the FRIES are good. its just a giant plate of goodness with sour cream and guac. I've also had their Carne Asada burrito. another good one. The surf and Turf burrito......definitely worth getting. If it wasn't for the burritos, I would never step foot it this place again. After a long day of work, I went through the drive thru to order 4 burritos for my family. All good till I got home (20 minutes away) and only found 3 in the bag. Got back in the car and called them on my way to let them know the situation. The girl (don't know her name), made me feel like I was lying..."Uh, there were 4 burritos in your bag". Uh, no there isn't and do you really think I want to call you and drive back to pick it up at 5 p.m.? She then asked me what was in the bag, that each burrito should be labeled. Well, they weren't labeled and were falling out of their paper..When I got there, she accused me of unwrapping them...like who the heck wants to waste their time doing that. Just fix the problem! I could go on but long story short, (forgot the extra salsa I ordered or any salsa for that matter until I pointed it out). I walked in there and rather than try to right their wrong, they were defensive and accusatory. We waited for an extremely long time for two items. We have been here through the drive through multiple times and it has never taken this long. The woman at the window was messing around with her coworkers instead of doing any kind of work. There was a line of four people behind us and one of them actually got out of the line and drove away, I'm assuming because it was taking forever.
