Machaca Breakfast Burrito (no cheese) they forgot my beans!
    Anola S.

Machaca breakfast burrito no cheese. Great size but SAD because they forgot my beans!! However service was friendly and they had a full service hot sauce bar INCLUDING FREE SPICY CARROTS (A huge win for me) Machaca was pretty good but overall lacking flavor :// cute shop-- clean and colorful.

3 ROLLED BEEF TACOS with cheese and guacamole

have been here twice for ROLLED TACOS and both times they were good -- fried to order and generously topped with guacamole and shredded cheese. even though every street in So Cal with retail shops has a fast Mex place or two, it's gotten surprisingly difficult to find decent rolled tacos. also enjoyed the CONGA BURRITO (carne asada, beans, rice, and cheese). going to try their cabeza burrito next. can you ever get enough head?

I really enjoyed my chile relleno burrito, had great texture from the pepper so it wasn't too mushy. Great flavors all around. Even tho we had a 10 min drive home, everything held up really well. The rolled tacos were pretty good, great crunch and toppings. My husband got the Cali burrito and I had a bite, it was legit. Food came out fast, service was nice and place clean. Great salsa bar. Would recommend and come back.

Love these giant burritos! My friend's fave is a bean and cheese with rice, I love the breakfast burritos. Their carrots and peppers at the salsa bar are delish and their green salsa is my fave. This place is always a weekend treat for us and I can get at least 2 meals out of my burrito because it's so big!

Carne asada tacos with beans a rice

I was really in the mood for Mexican food for lunch today but had to run to the Postal Annex and CVS. There was no parking quite bear CVS so I drove a little bit down and saw Mexico Viejo. I thought "awesome, this must be meant to be I can get Mexican food for lunch after all" It was a little before noon and not too busy. The last behind the cash register was nice. I had a huge coffee and was a bit chatty, going on about wanting to get something different than I always get. She could have gotten irritated but didn't. I landed in the carne asada tacos and beans and rice. She offered me a water cup whole I waited which I didn't realize I needed after all that coffee until she gave it to me. lol Man- I know it looks like your regular meal from the picture, but for some reason I was digging the beans and rice! The rice was really fluffy and beans were just the right consistency! The carne asada tacos were delicious, but I kept going back to the beans and rice. Their two red salsa choices were amazing and I mixed in with the beans and rice. The portions are really good for the price. The restaurant was clean and decorated well. I think o found a new go to lunch spot for Mexican food!

Crunchy chicken taco and side of refried beans

If you're in search of a quick and tasty Mexican food fix this is a great place to try in west north county. Located right off hwy 78 and El Camino real...in the vons shopping center and very convenient if you've been shopping at the mall across the street. I was greeted right away as it was around 3 pm...I was offered small cups for salsa and served myself from the salsa cart..traditional carrots and limes were also available. My crunchy chicken taco came up quickly and was stuffed with juicy chicken and cheese. The side of beans was also hot and delicious. Definitely want to return to check out some other menu offerings!

Wet burrito, served as a 'to go', not on a plate, can't cut the food

First, the food was okay...not great, but good, and when we went here, our expectations were not high.... so on the Food Review, I'll give it three stars... my friend said his tacos were okay, too, so there ya go.... NEXT, let's talk about 'customer service' and the employees... they take your order and the digital screen asks if you'd like to leave a tip... FOR WHAT? You tip AFTER your service so you can gauge what type of service you received. But dumb people (count me in at this point) left a tip PRIOR to receiving service and we shouldn't have. Lazy people... I asked for my coke top to be removed, so the girl pointed for me to do it. (!). Then, when the order was ready, instead of earning her almost $7 tip, she said "Here's your order" and had us come to the counter to get our food. Again, DO NOT LEAVE THEM A TIP - THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP YOU!!! Lastly, the owner is an absolute cheap-skate... the cutlery they give you for your food is a JOKE.... I mean, I thought there were cameras on me for filming the show "HIDDEN CAMERA", because the cheap-ass, slim, thin fork and knife won't cut into anything hot/warm... they become disfigured and then, you're stuck with food that you really can't eat!! The fork was so thin that it would bend when touching my burrito!! I am not lying!!! This place sucks. They simply cannot figure out how to be better. The owner wants cheap. The employees don't want to do anything with additional effort. First and Last time I come here. And... I should have read the reviews.... Oh, and the burrito I had? Double Wrapped so that it appears larger than it really is... hardly any beef inside.... again, shame on me!!

Carne Asada Fries.....ate most of it before taking picture
    Kitty C.

I've been to other locations and this one did not disappoint. The carne asada fries were huge and the cheese quesadilla was oozing with melted cheese. The fries were super crispy with the right amount of crunch. The lady was super nice and friendly. The salsa bar had several choices of salsa and hot carrots and cucumber. There is enough seating, but it can feel a little tight. There are rows of tables, but they are pretty close to each other. Overall, def try it out!

So I took some time to think about whether or not to update this review I felt like it was only fair that I do as I review most places every six months or when I get back to them, I ordered a Carne Asada burrito, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and everything comes with it My mom ordered a Caldo de ress it hurts me to say, though the service was great. The quality of the food was disgraceful. The burrito was as usual good my mother's plate was mainly fat and meat so tough. She couldn't even show it. We immediately left and went across the street to Jersey Mike's even because the food was so bad I give this place a zero in my mind. however, I have to give them at least one star due to yaps policy. I will tell you this I have come here since I was in high school. I graduated in 96 so I've been coming here for quite some time. It goes in waves however, I am disappointed. This is the most expensive place in the area and when you get a soup that's supposed to have beef in it and it's nothing but spat and the beef that is in there is so tough that they cannot be chewed. I even tried it. It is a severe disappointment. The ambience in the room is no different than your typical Alberto's however, it is better in the sense that you could pick your seat but by what I have experienced there is a very obvious reason why you can pick your seat. I won't be back anytime soon. I am disappointed beyond belief and how far a place complement I wish I could say something positive, but I cannot. Would I recommend this place to my worst enemy not even them I could wish the worst for you and still not send you there.

Food was great. We got the breakfast burritos, rolled tacos beef, and kids BRC burrito. All in all it was great. I think the kids BRC was actually my favorite lol the tortilla wasn't over cooked maybe that's why I liked it

I pass this restaurant everyday dropping my daughter off at work. And this place does not open at 8:00am. The employees are just getting to work at 8. And take about a half hour to set up. So when they open up the doors. It's more like 8:30 or longer. They should probably update their hours. I've tried to come in the morning a couple of times. I just end up going to another Mexican place. It's always open on time.

It's just not the kind of Mexican restaurant where the veggies are organic and they are not using seed oils. And it works if you've got young kids in tow because the staff is nothing but friendly. I would say it's a very family friendly restaurant perfect for that little strip of Chick Filet, In and Out area of the 101 in Carlsbad. Funny. I am sure Chick Filet is not spelled that way .... but I've never eaten there, and don't really pay attention to fast food restaurants. In and Out is delicious too, but when I got to the bottom of the fries and it said they clearly use seed oils.... I was done. I understand that America is poisoning us ..... so I can't really applaud Miguel. But I also understand that many of us have young kids and less money. It's more about the gathering or being comfortable going for a meal. So it's definitely an option for many people. Plus we're stressed so comfort food is a nice break. I did not go for a salad. I did not go for things not fried. So I would say Miguels is good for a break from eating healthy. Not to deny yourself. Just not to do it as a regular thing. One last thing: My 3 year old grandson ordered fruit. Hmmm..... With gusto, garlic and gratitude, Chef Marian   San Diego Foodies Carlsbad Foodies

It was a generously sized burrito. I will also add that their salsas go from NO heat (fresca) to super heat. Nothing in the middle. And one of the hot salsas was just yuck. (The one with all the pepper flakes in it.) The other tasted OK. They had carrots & jalapeños at the salsa bar, but tiny cups to put them in, so... Anyway... I like the surf and turf here, but everything else just seems meh. In a town with so much good Mexican food, I'll go elsewhere.
