This was a spur of the moment get away and I said to my wife let's call and see if Dee has room. The Cabin was available to we invited our younger son and his wife and kid to join us. Everything was perfect; road conditions were we good, tourists weren't a hassle and fortunately Western Divide Highway was OPENED for our return trip home...this time through Kernville. Everything about Mountain Top B&B was great. This winter brought lots and lots of snow, Dee's car was still buried and sustained body damage as a result. The Cabin easily accommodated our four adults plus a toddler. The Ponderosa Lodge (next door) offered up cocktails and grub and a fun crowd of mountain madness lovers. Everything was late, food was usually cold. this is typically a Yoga retreat, so I am not sure if they ever did a wedding. The wedding itself was wonderful, picturesque and memorable, but the dinner and reception were horribly run. Food (steak) was very low quality and came out cold. Maybe the typical guests are more free spirited so don't mind, but this was not very good.

I told them that I liked to photograph wildlife and they were kind enough to come knock on the door when some huge Bull Elk came in the area. Our Unit was clean, plenty of space, comfortable furniture, stocked with what we needed, and everything worked. We especially loved the Fireplace as it got cool on the rainy day. We loved the area, a nice park next door, within walking distance with a pond & a playground for kids. Small town (Stallion Springs) has a gas-station with a few eateries. Tehachapi is a bigger town (about 30 mins away). Make sure to stop at Visitor Center as it will give you plenty of ideas of things to do & where to eat. If you are looking for new & fancy with stuff like a pool or attached restaurants this is not the spot for you. If you want a great week of quiet & chances to see wildlife, enjoy a very relaxing area with plenty of friendly people then this is the place for you !!! I love Kernville and the surrounding valley. We were just looking for something nice and quiet with…read moreno frills. We found exactly that at Whispering Pines Lodge. It's very easy to find and within reasonable walking distance to many of the local stores and eateries of Kernville. I'm not typically one to stay in my room all day although the nice AC makes it tempting. We were able to go up to the mountains the entire day and come back and jump in the pool at Whispering Pines. The pool is very clean with a gorgeous unobstructed view of the mountains. The front office staff were very kind and friendly and quickly checked us in to our room. We stayed in room #103 which is very cozy with a kitchenette. The room was nice and clean and we even had a deck out the back door to look and listen to nature. There's no real designated parking spots for individual rooms so it's first come, first served. It gets very hot in Kernville so I would highly suggest parking in the few precious spots in front of the pool fence which give more shade throughout the day. But as SOON as I walked into the room (#4), I was smitten. There is a palpable 'peace' here. It had everything we wanted; a CLEAN spotless room, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, peace and quiet, quality cotton sheets AND a mesmerizing 50s TIME WARP! Bottled water, and other treats were also available. There is a resident, skunk named 'Princess', who pals around with the local cats at night. She has never sprayed anyone (said the departing 'Music Club' members. . . they ought to know, right?). Then after being informed, the HIGHLIGHT of my stay, was IMMEDIATELY seeing her at the bottom of the stairs! When she caught me staring at her, she scampered under the pool fence & disappeared into the garden. . . Soooo cute! I would come back in a heartbeat. . . JUST to see Princess! ;)

Basic accommodations for shampoo, lotion, and bar soap included but again it's a low priced hotel so it's not going to have brand name fancy soaps. This isn't hilton prices. I would 100% come back here again. Oh and no elevator so if you are handicapped, you can't get the upstairs rooms.
