My husband reserved this and was 'not sure' I would want to stay in the only room available. . . at ground level. Both of us prefer second-story or higher locations at a motel. But as SOON as I walked into the room (#4), I was smitten. There is a palpable 'peace' here. It had everything we wanted; a CLEAN spotless room, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, peace and quiet, quality cotton sheets AND a mesmerizing 50s TIME WARP! Bottled water, and other treats were also available. There is a resident, skunk named 'Princess', who pals around with the local cats at night. She has never sprayed anyone (said the departing 'Music Club' members. . . they ought to know, right?). Then after being informed, the HIGHLIGHT of my stay, was IMMEDIATELY seeing her at the bottom of the stairs! Thank you to our host Roberta! My husband planned a last minute trip to experience whiskey flat day. Roberts the owner came through and we got a room. What a lovely lady, she has wonderful customer service! When we pulled in, she greeted us and walked us to our room! Our room was perfect! My husband is a tall man and she gave us a room upstairs #8! We didn't feel crowded at all! Such a cute place. Lots of details that make a difference. Two chairs on the outside so we can relax. Our room was clean, and had comfortable chairs and couch. The bed was comfortable. I loved how they even had water for the coffee machine and little cookies. Great added touch! The grounds were clean and just a relaxing setting! When we come back I want to stay here again! Perfect walking distance close to town, restaurants and bar. Not to mention we got to see the celebrity Roberta in the parade! Oh, and her staff was very polite asking if we needed our room cleaned or needed anything. Definitely a great place! Plus they are dog friendly. The room smelt clean. Amazing hotel. Very cute inside and out! Great location in Kernville, walking distance to restaurants and bars! The pool area is awesome! Interior of the room was so cozy with wood panels, felt like a little cabin! Comfortable bed! They change sheets after every stay and they set them outside your room so you know! They have organic coffee with actual mugs to drink and a porch chairs to sit in! Can't say enough good stuff about it. One big complaint is the shower was horrible for both of us. Either way too cold or too hot- it would have been a 5 star if not for the shower problem! read more

We absolutely loved our stay at the Pine Cone Inn! Both Kim and Kylie at the front desk were so friendly and kind. We were in Room 8 upstairs and we had a stained glass window in our room. We were up in Kernville to go white water rafting and it was a first time experience for both my wife and I. We had an absolute blast doing it and for any one considering it, we highly recommend Kern River Outfitters! We originally reserved just one night at the PIne Cone and were going to travel back to So Cal after our river trip. However, once we were up there, we decided to stay a second night and were so glad that Kim could accomodate us and we were able to keep our room for a second night. It was the best decision! We were able to take hot showers after being in the river and go out for dinner that night and then get a good night's sleep in our comfortable bed! We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is not fancy, but it's clean and well-located within walking distance of the brewery, the river rafting companies and the small downtown. The rooms are comfortable and well stocked. My husband is picky about his coffee, and he was happy with the Keurig machine in our room! The hotel is in a rather natural setting with a nicely landscaped pool. As others have mentioned, the shower water temperature was a little uneven. Both managers Karen and Kylie were really friendly and hospitable. Karen was especially helpful with advice. Had she not recommended it, we would have missed out on "The Trail of 100 Giants," a grove of huge Sequoia trees located an hour's drive north of the hotel. I'm so grateful for her recommendation (as well as the experience of those 2,000 year-old trees!). read more

Stayed here for the third time. Love this hotel and it's character. Bed is super comfy and supportive, and the room so clean we needed to air it out :) The rooftop deck is a wonderful place for sunset and a glass of wine. Able to walk from the hotel all around town, restaurants and bars easily reached. Incredible thanks to the whole PPCI team who found my credit card on the floor in the room and made special efforts to contact me, keep it safe, and send it back to me! As soon as I walked into the room, it was clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the property. The air conditioner worked great, which was a huge plus. Piazza's is a dream, long may she stand! This place has been in the same family since the 50s, and it's a labor of love. The lovely people who work here look after it as if it were their home. Karen gave me the grand tour and made me feel so welcomed that I extended my stay. She and Kylie, the other manager, made me feel like we were old friends. Kylie and her husband went out of their way to let us borrow some personal equipment so that I could have a river adventure. The landscaper tended the beautiful garden and watered nightly. His wife cleans the rooms and leaves them spotless and smelling fresh. It's a team effort, and Roberta the owner is a delight. The motel has kept the retro 50s vibe and some of the bathrooms are the original, beautiful pink tile. For decades, the family ran an Italian restaurant attached, and now the area is used as a clubhouse where you can play pool, lounge, or catch the Tuesday night gathering of the renown Kern River Ukulele Club. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's homey, clean, and comfortable. I had a martini by the pool and taking in the surroundings was deeply relaxing and enjoyable. Another perk is that the place is regularly full of firemen, so that's another nice view. The mattresses are the same as the Marriott's, and they're replaced regularly. The sheets are crisp. I wanted to stay in bed all day. I'm going to book for a week or so next time, and pretend I'm in the Rat Pack. I hope if they renovate they don't change the rooms into the greige, minimalist, common snoozefest that you find everywhere. Leaning into the retro vibes is what makes this place special. It's a gem because it's unique and vintage, and of course because of all the wonderful people, and the thoughtful touches like cold, bottled water available 24/7. Another cute bonus is that there's a family of kittens and skunks nearby and they sometimes appear, though they keep to themselves. Again, there's a lot of beautiful, interesting things to look at. Stayed here for one night, wish I was here longer. Loved our cozy mountain room, it smelled of fresh wood the moment we walked in. Took me back to my childhood, the look and feel of this building. The drive coming in from Bakersfield at nighttime was a little scary. I'm not from the area and didn't know what to expect. In the morning to my surprise, I saw this huge mountain outside our hotel window. We left early in the morning so I could get some snowboard time at Alta Vista Ski Resort, which is about 30 minutes away. It would be awesome to come back and play in the pool or lounge in the retro room. This isn't a fancy place, it's a wonderful mountain inn. Enjoy this gem. read more

Very happy with our stay and the hospitality! It is not a fancy hotel, but was also not expensive. Our room was very clean and well-stocked. The location was great and we could walk to the brewery and a number of other restaurants in town. We travel with our dogs and loved that there was a trail right across the street where we could take them to get some exercise and do their business. Karen was super nice and helpful and took the time to provide a few tips on local things to see and do! Parking lot was pretty small, but there was space outside of the lot if someone was towing something. Will definitely book again! read more

We loved it! We had the best time! We stopped here between 2 camping trips & it was just what we needed! Spent lots of time in the pool, the room AC worked great, rooms were very spacious (we had room 12). Each room had a TV with lots of channels. The bathroom was really big, beds comfy. Our favorite part though were the people running the hotel. They were the most hospitable people I've ever stayed with. Very friendly & helpful. Genuinely nice. Our kids played with one of their kids for hours & she rounded up snacks for everyone & made sure everyone was happy. I just can't say enough about how much we loved them. Anyways, the hotel is not new (none of them in the area are) so I expected the wood walls & all that (of course looked at pictures before we went)but still it was very clean & well put together. I made a reservation online and inadvertently picked the Saturday after we we're actually arriving (instead of the Saturday we needed, which was one of the busiest weekends in Kernville-Whisky Flat Days). Low and behold, they were sold out , no surprise there, but the two lady in the office told me not to panic, put their heads together, made a phone call or two, and voila! They made MY MISTAKE right. We can't wait to go back. This time I'll triple check I select the right date. What an amazing little gem. We came on serious low tourist season, which was a shame, because we could have spent much more time here. The Pine Cone Inn is one of the most charming places we've ever stayed at. It's rustic, cute, and staff is super friendly. They give free water and coffee and snacks, and there's an adorable cat that lives on site. It's close to hiking, but hiking is mostly closed in the winter. We enjoyed that we could walk into the quaint little town of Kernville. The entire town smelled of campfire. I can't wait to come back in the warmer months, stay here, and hike and raft. I have been coming to Kernville camping for years and years. I've told my husband one day we need to stay here. So we decided to come up for a couple of days and decided to try this place. We love it! When we arrived we were greeted by a very nice man and Ellie the cat. (I'm a cat person). We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was. Room was VERY CLEAN. Bathroom too. We had a king bed and a double bed. Room is a nice size and a large flat screen TV. Water, coffee and pastries were offered in the office. I like how there are patio tables outside where we had coffee in the morning. Overall we had a very nice stay. By no means is this a modern hotel. But it is charming and will definitely be back. read more

When I randomly chose Kernville for a quick getaway, I scrolled through last minute availability and reviews. Man, we're we happy that Piazza's Pine Cone in was available. From the moment we arrived we knew we struck gold. The room was immaculate. Had vintage charm and quirkiness for sure as does the entire property. What a history. And man would it have been cool to have attended some of the musical events over the years. Original family has owned and operated since 1955. They've managed to keep the retro vibe alive and make visitors welcome and comfortable as can be. Location is great for walking to dinner and shops in the downtown area. Super quiet at night. Was so happy with my upstairs room. So very clean and pretty. I liked Pine wood paneling and extra mirrors in the room. Fridge worked great for leftovers etc. Very good TV. I slept better on the very comfortable bed and fluffy pillows than I do at home. I really like the white coverlet rather than some dark colored bedspread. With the white you can tell it is clean and spotless. We could walk to restaurants and market. read more

We stayed in Kernville a month ago for a week together with our kids who attended a summer camp. We were two families. My family stayed at another place, but our friends stayed at Piazza's Pine Cone Inn. And what I can say is that Pine Cone Inn turned out to be the best place with the nicest people ever. The owner of the place and the front desk employee went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and make our visitation as pleasant as possible. I reiterate that my family did not book a room at Piazza's; we only visited our friend's family who had a room there.
