The Cottage was not our normal vet, but this past Mother's Day we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our little Zoey Monster. She lived a long, beautiful life full of adventures and spent every day protecting her "boy" from the moment we adopted her until her very last breath. As you can imagine, trying to find a veterinary hospital open on a Sunday, on Mother's Day, and one that could handle such a painful moment with compassion, was not easy. Every single staff member we encountered was gentle, patient, and compassionate. They carefully explained every step of the process, made sure we understood everything, and constantly reminded us to take all the time we needed. Most importantly, they allowed us to stay with Zoey until the very end so she knew she was never alone. After everything was completed, they continued to treat us with such care. They explained the cremation process and how we would receive her ashes back, and sent us on our way with so much grace during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. I told them where I was coming from and that the drive, which is normally around two hours, had turned into nearly three because of traffic and the last-minute rescheduling. If nobody had informed them, I would completely understand, but that was not the case here. This was especially frustrating because I had already spent around $4,000 on surgery there and was planning additional respiratory testing and treatment that would have cost thousands more. The surgery itself was done well, which is why I continued making the long drive to this office in the first place. But eventually you realize that good technical work alone is not enough. Character, professionalism, communication, and basic respect matter just as much. Months ago, this doctor told me my pet had "major plaque buildup" and needed a deep dental cleaning that would cost over $1,000. Today, the specialist told me his teeth actually look fine with only very minimal buildup and nothing requiring a major cleaning right now. At this point, I will probably be getting second opinions on everything I was previously told here. Brought my chihuahua for an eye infection. When I walked in there was not anyone in the lobby, hmmm?? Person leaving was paying when staff member told him there was a surcharge of $5 if he used a credit card. Been to many vets, never have I been charged for using a credit card. After Doc checked my dog , she recommended several costly test which I refused, I requested to have eye drops antibiotics she said she would get them ready she also recommended pain meds. I told her I had pain meds at home. When tech came in with the estimate for the eye drops, the charge was $60 , I said NO, please have the doc write me a script and i'd take to my pharmacy. Which took some time to get. I got the script paid for what I owed and left. Got the meds from my pharmacy for $19!! Vets charge triple what should be!! I was sort of avoiding writing this, because I am still taking the recent loss of one of my dogs pretty hard, but this office deserves some credit. I had been to this office a few times over the years after the office I had loved so much completely changed over the years and making me feel like "just a number" after so many years with them. Nothing stood out to me here, but the vets I visited were nice and helped me with stuff I needed for the dogs at the time. In 2019, I brought one of my dogs who had passed away at home to this office after a recent issue with his previous office who did not find answers to his health issues and basically gave up and sent me on my way. Still angry, I had asked this office to cremate him. They were so kind and I received his ashes and such a sweet package from them. In 2022 I brought my other two dogs here for routine shots and such. Their old office wanted to charge me an office visit just to receive shots, so I decided to come back here since I was going to be charged with an exam anywhere I went. One of my dogs ripped a nail off almost completely and I came here to have it safely removed. Now in 2024, unfortunately one of my dogs was losing his battle with IVDD and cancer. He was struggling with cachexia from his cancer and now starting to stop eating, drinking, and sleeping and he was giving out cries in pain. I had to make the call and it was one of the hardest things I have experienced in my life. I had first attempted that old office again (stupid me). I thought with something like this, they would surely help. Part of the reason I tried them first was because it was so busy at this office during my last visit and I waited so long just to drop my dog off to have his nail removed. I didn't have the energy for the long waits in a busy room and at that time most of us had to wait outside still. Well, unfortunately that old office I used to love thought nothing of it and gave me one time slot to rush my dog in to put him down and while on the call she told me someone just took that slot and I could call later "to see if there was an opening" because they were so busy. I was floored. I called Cottage while crying on the phone. The girl who answered the phone was nothing but polite and asked when *I* could come in. I asked to come later so Steven could be with me. There was zero issues. As we were signing in they realized it was me and told us not to bother and immediately took us to a room to be with him. Dr. Gallo examined my dog and asked plenty of questions and unfortunately my dog was indeed suffering and was eventually going to have organ failure. She explained every step to me and asked if I wanted to be there with him. I didn't, but I felt I owed it to him. She was so patient and kind and when it was over she let me know and left us to visit him as long as we needed to with such compassion. Yesterday I received a card from Cottage with so many of the staff members who had signed it. I had cried again. This was such a nice gesture I had never expected! I have earned a whole new level of respect for this staff. I am waiting for my dog's clay paw print to come in. I am still struggling with this experience and his loss but Dr. Gallo's compassion as well as the staff is something I will never forget. They made me feel like someone and understood the painful loss of our loved pets in every step. read more

I have an extra minute and I'm just furious with places in the medical field that don't do their job properly. We came in almost positive our 9 month old puppy has a UTI, he has had several incidents that he peed uncontrollably some while sleeping some while eating. He has green colored discharge almost every time he pees, and he licks his genitalia quite often, not obsessively. We came ready with urine sample for our first visit with our newly adopted Bucky. We had an appointment for 9:00am we were told to arrive 15 minutes early to fill in forms, so we did. We were accepted immediately and put to wait in a room until 9:20am when they only took Bucky to first examination behind doors we couldn't even see our puppy(35 minutes waiting unknowingly for what really, with a very anxious puppy). When Bucky came back he was ok, we were told to keep waiting in that room for a doctor to come. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the doctor came we were only asked off topic questions and dismissed our concerns by saying it's common for puppy's to have urinal accidents and that a little discharge is normal (when asked about discharges we answered he has them constantly several times a day).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we were insisting that something is wrong and the accidents he has are not normal (me and my girlfriend both owned several dogs before) we were told that they can send the urinal sample to the lab for testing for extra costs, right to selling unnecessary services. A simple dog urinal test strip could give some insight before offering paid lab testing but it was never brought up. I am fed up with dentist doctors vets and anyone in the medical field who follows this nonsense of overcomplicating treatments to make an extra buck. I have brought my cat Squeak in quite a few times and she is very thorough and addresses any concerns. She has recommended products for Squeak to stay hydrated, and a powder to top her food with to prevent immune system issues. I have seen great improvement and will continue to bring her in. It amazes me when you walk in for your appointment with a dog, they don't seem to know that you were going to show up, until they check the appointment book It seems to me they should know what the next few appointments are. I had to obtain a health certificate for my dog, Mr. Wendall to fly back to Honolulu, HI with me and was referred to Cottage Pet Hospital (CPH). Although the person who answered the phone and set my appointment did not provide me with all the necessary information I needed to make my visit successful. I had the pleasure of working with Jaelin who is extremely customer service oriented and was able to provide me with step-by-step details on what I required and set up a second appointment for me. I was able to get all the information emailed to CPH and the office staff confirmed in advance that they had all the documents they required from my location and they performed the exam, was able to generate the health certificate for me and offered continued communication on the process. I am extremely grateful for the care that Jaelin and Dr. Ching-Hsien Hsu provided. Mr. Wendall is now back in Hawaii and reunited with his brother, Doodles. My regular vet didn't have openings so I came here and wish I hadn't! I had an appointment for the follow up and initial but waited at least 30min over, spent several hours here, overcharged for services, when I went back to regular vet they couldn't even figure out what they did based on the invoices because it was so generic, I spent almost $1000 because my dog had ear infections (which they put him under for) and during the follow up they said they must have "missed" something, he was asleep!! My dog was extremely nervous during the follow up and didn't even want to go inside. The staff was nice but they were disorganized and couldn't explain things. It is disheartening because my dog was in pain from his ear infections so we did what they recommended but with all the treatment it still didn't help. Won't be coming back. Really disappointed. I also hope you can focus on the quality of care you are providing people and their pets instead of if I am reviewing the correct place, not great customer service but honestly not surprised at all. We actually took all of your recommendations and paid $677.07 the next day. We get discounts because we pay to be a rewards member not because you gave us a discount. My fiancé just tried to call your office and was refused to speak to manager to try to resolve the issue. I hope you can at least take accountability for the poor care you provide instead of trying to shame me on Yelp. My hope was to prevent this from happening to someone else and that you would consider the feedback for your future customers. Update on Charley. Due to her not getting the proper treatment at Cottage Pet Hospital she developed a high fever and got an abscess on bottom. I took her to a different vet which cleaned her wounds gave her IV antibiotics and pain meds which only cost me $147. What a difference when a corporation is not involved with frivolous charges. After a week of treatment her fever is gone and her abscess is healing. Thank God for good vets. read more

We had to wait outside for about 15-20 minutes upon arriving to our appointment time. They didn't let us go in the office even though there was no one there. Staff would come in and out to give us paperwork to sign and make us wait outside. The whole process just seems so inefficient. Dr. Hsu (I thinks that's his name?) was nice and and thorough but didn't appreciate how he took our dog to the back to examine his ears while he could've done it in front of us. Also didn't like that they tried to charge us for a service that we didn't really need without giving us the options first. Overall, not bad of a vet place but not great either. I am seriously disgusted by their poor service, they clearly don't care about your baby. Told them many many times, she got a infection on her ear AFTER the surgery. And they still didn't bother to clean or avoid putting strong duct tape on top of her infected ear. Every single time we had to ask to put something under the tape so it won't bother her infection, other wise they will just put duct tape over it. Im sure if we can clearly see this, Doctor can too. He just doesn't care. And we live in LA, both work 6days!! Our schedule is not flexible. We also told them about this many many times But seems like they just expect us to be there whenever they tell us to. I AM SO FREAKING SORRY THAT WE DONT LIVE 5 MINUTE AWAY FROM YOUR HOSPITAL. Since he is soooo busy, he won't come out For a minute. If you request to see him, Nurse will constantly goes back and out to deliver his message. If you have a question or wants to talk to doctor about your baby's condition, doctor won't bother to come out because he is very very busy. Then they will charge you for exam/consultation fee. Seriously this place is a joke. I regret bringing my baby to here, we spent extra money for surgical laser and last treatment for fast recovery too. I don't mind spending money on my baby but I DO EXPECT SOME PROFESSIONAL WORK AND CARE WHEN I PAY FOR IT. On our first they, they said they will do posting for three times. So on our last day we wanted to confirm her next visit or after care. We wanted to speak with the doctor and of course he didn't even bother to come out, one of the rude ass nurse came out with her attitude and she goes "i heard you guys have a question, so what is your question", lol I literally really wanted to just leave at that point, but wanted to confirm more stuff so I asked her some stuff and every single time she answered me back with her bad attitude. After we left the vet, we noticed her infection got more irritated and all the dirt and adhesive was covered her ears so we decided to never go back to that stupid careless vet. We came home, cleaned her ear And searched google, watched youtube to Learn how to post doberman's ear and we did it our self, and it came out really nice and her ear looks clean and her infection went away lot too. It's a vet clinic for people who can't afford to take their pets to a professional veterinarian. This place is just dirty and inhumane. It's like a climic in a third world country. My dog had pulled out her decline instead of giving her anesthesia they just pushed it back in with no numbing cream or anything. She's a sweet Golden Retriever and I heard her scream from the lobby. I brought my 10 year old Mini schnauzer here, and let me tell you... what a breath of fresh air! We stumbled across this place after going to another vet and was quoted $4,300 to remove a stoma growth in my pups bladder. Upon waking in, staff greeted us immediately and the wait time to get into a room was less than 5 minutes. Dr S came in the exam room and knew about our situation, kindly introduced himself and proceeded to explain what would need to be done. He was compassionate, caring and empathetic towards our situation, mind you I came in so upset from the previous vet we went to and walked in with literal tears from how poorly we were treated. We set the appointment for 3 days later for my dog to get this surgery that was needed. Long story short, the procedure went very well and smoothly. I thank Dr S for getting my dog back to her fun silly self! We will be taking her back in for the follow up and for the removal of her stitches soon. Give me a second while I rave about this vet! I'm moving to Hawaii and Stephanie (Stevie) has been such a great help. HEADS UP, I learned that you really need to do the research when you're taking your pet to another country/Hawaii because the rules always change. I expected the vet to know but the rules always change. Every staff member has been so understanding, helpful, thorough and friendly - especially when I call 5 times a week to make sure I have everything correct! I was obsessed with my old vet out in Costa Mesa but I'm happy here. It's like I walk into my family's house every time I have a vet visit. Thank you, Cottage Pet Hospital!
