    Chibby R.

I have been bringing my pets to La Palma Vet for many years and have always appreciated the great practice and wonderful staff. However, my recent experience has left me heartbroken and questioning whether things could have been different. On November 11, 2024, I took my senior pet, Chibby, in for a consultation regarding a growth behind his ear. Dr. Le Clair examined it and assured me it was just a sebaceous cyst, nothing to worry about. She mentioned it was purely cosmetic and that removal was optional. Given Chibby's age, I decided to leave it alone based on her reassurance. Fast forward to January--Chibby scratched the cyst, and I noticed it had become large and inflamed. I took him back to the same vet on January 29. This time, Dr. Le Clair cleaned the wound, shaved the area, and performed a fine needle aspirate. Nearly a week later, after following up for results, I was informed that it was a mast cell tumor. I was grateful to receive a call from Dr. Angelo. We set an appointment to see him. Benadryl and Prednisolone was prescribed. However, after a few days on Prednisone (on 2/12/25), Chibby had an incident. He could not stand, he yelped, cried and was panting. We rushed him to Blue Pearl, where Dr. Jonathan Mullins determined that his weakness was due to low potassium and low oxygen. He was placed on IV fluids. Xray and bloodwork was done. His Prednisone dose was adjusted, he was prescribed potassium supplements and discharged. On 2/24/25, we came home to find Chibby unable to stand at all. He was yelping and panting. We rushed him to the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic , where Dr. Kevin Yang told us his legs were paralyzed--likely due to a clot. His prognosis was poor, and we made the heartbreaking decision to let him rest. Chibby would have turned 17 on May 29. I can't help but wonder--if we had performed an FNA back in November, could we have caught the mast cell tumor in time for early removal while it was still small in size? I trusted the initial assessment, but now I am left with regret and what-ifs. I am sharing my experience in the hope that other pet parents advocate for thorough diagnostics, even when something appears minor. A special thank you to Dr. Angelo for always taking such great care of our babies. I truly wish Chibby had been able to have his November consult with you. He had several lumps over the years, and you always recommended FNAs to be sure, showing your proactive approach to his health. You have always gone above and beyond, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. You're the best!

We have been going to this vet for over 13 years, and they have taken wonderful care of all three of my dogs. Dr. Angelo and the staff always go above and beyond. This past visit was stressful for me and my senior dog but their RVTs Ana, Megan, Sam & Tyttis worked so hard together to make sure my baby was good. Their receptionists Amanda and Wendy also make sure to make us feel welcomed. And of course, Dr. Angelo is AMAZING! I wouldn't trust anybody else with my babies!

Waiting to see her Doctor for checkup.

Dr. Angelo is amazing, so wonderful with my fur baby. She always gets the best treatment. The staff are also so friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend bring your fur baby.

Brought my cat here to get a couple shots updated & get him seen before I scheduled his appointment to get neutered, since that's their policy. First off, they weren't friendly for whatever reason, but I don't expect everyone to be in a great mood all the time, so that was fine. I'm also polite to people regardless of the vibe they give off. Then the vet came in & she also wasn't very nice, for whatever reason. As she was examining my cat, he growled & she seemed super annoyed and said "wow, so rude". For a second I thought she was joking, but she genuinely looked angry. They weren't loving toward him whatsoever. Excuse me, ma'am, but are pets usually happy to see you? I've never seen an animal excited to go to the vet. So weird. They wouldn't give me a price or ballpark range for the neuter over the phone, but since so many people on yelp recommended them for affordable neutering (some saying they paid around $100 recently), I figured it would be okay. I ended up paying $111 for a visit + 2 shot updates. That was ok, but I was quoted "anywhere from $289-$489" to get him neutered. When the vet assistant asked me if I would like to schedule, I said "No thank you. That was more than I was expecting." & he laughed a little and said, "Yeah, I know. Pets are expensive." I'm sorry, What?! I know that. I've invested a lot into his health & wellbeing, but that doesn't mean I want to pay that much and be on a waiting list for an unknown amount of time until you guys get him in. Just a weird, unpleasant experience over all & I'd highly recommend you go elsewhere if you're unsure.

No complaints from my fur baby or my wallet. I've first gone to La Palma Veterinary Hospital to get my puppy spayed and I've been going ever since. I've went for the surgery, regular check ups, shots and flea meds. All have been great experiences. The staff are friendly and very helpful in person and over the phone. Lots of parking!

Around our house, he's simply known as The Cat Whisperer. Somehow he has this magical "Dr. Ash method" that can calm even my most nervous, difficult cats. Cats that normally hide, hiss, or make everyone work for it seem to trust him. I still haven't figured out his secret! What really sets Dr. Ash apart is the time he gives every patient and every pet parent. He never makes you feel rushed. He explains blood work and treatment options in incredible detail, answers every question, and has even called me in the evening to personally discuss test results. That level of care and dedication is almost unheard of. I also want to recognize his amazing staff. Raquel, Andrea, and everyone at the clinic are always so kind, patient, and genuinely caring. Whether they're drawing blood, collecting urine samples, trimming nails, or giving one of my cats a sanitary trim, they handle each cat with such compassion and professionalism. You can tell they truly love what they do. I've trusted Dr. Ash and his team with my cats for many years, and I wouldn't trust anyone more. They treat every one of my cats as if they were their own, and that means the world to me. And here's the highest compliment I can give him: if Dr. Ash ever moved to Timbuktu... I'd be pricing moving trucks the same day. That's how much I trust him. Thank you, Dr. Ash, Raquel, Andrea, and the entire team for the exceptional care you've given my furry family over the years. You are all simply the best.

YES you will wait 1.5-2 hours past your appt time. If you do a walk-in, u will wait longer…read more The shortest wait is coming first thing in the morning before patients build up. One time on Sat morning, I waited only 45 min to be seen! lol Yelp says he closes at 5, but i made an appt before at 4:30 and we were still at the office at 8pm finishing up with the doctor. This guy is a workaholic. His prices cannot be beat so if you don't mind paying up to double more somewhere else, then go to the another vet. If you are willing to wait to save money, come here. Ex: other vets quote $450 for an anesthetic teeth cleaning, if you have any extraction, it can cost you $1k. Dr Kim prob charges half that, but you will be picking your dog up at midnight. So weigh the pros and cons and decide. I have another vet I also use for minor issues when I'm short on time. One of our dogs got cancer on his paw, and my other vet told me it's not operable on the law and you will need to go to vet oncology and run tests and possible amputation and it will run you $10-15k. The dog was almost 15yo so obv we decided against that especially if he might not make it thru surgery/chemo. Then, we took him here for a second opinion. dr Kim also said that vet oncologist would cost that with amputation but the dog had hip dysplasia so obv amputation was not feasible. We told him that's too much for a 15yo dog. Then Dr Kim said he will operate to try to remove the tumor without testing for metastases first, if that's what we wanted to try. So we agreed to take a chance. He did a beautiful operation. Clear margins and beautiful stitch work. However, the cancer was too aggressive and turned out to be metastatic so it grew back. But he still bought our dog some time before he had to be put down at a fraction of $10k. I could tell he really wanted to save the dog and avoid putting him down. He truly loves animals. Yes he's human and he makes mistakes like all of us, but I think he's truly acting in the animals best interest to save as many as possible. Just look how freaking busy his office is. Testament to his skills. I'll still wait at his office for 2-3 hours if that's what it takes for anything serious. However if I just need a routine check up, then I'll go to my neighborhood vet to save time.

I get there at 9:30 am to check for my 9:45 am appointment today as I scheduled last week when I called. Door is locked. I go back to my car and try to call the office. Nobody answers. Then I see a tech waking out to the back shed/house thing while chain vaping and ask her when she comes back out if they're open. She then says "Thursdays and Fridays are surgery only. What time was your appointment scheduled for?" Then the "Pet Nurse" (according to her name tag) Brenda pops her head out and the other tech tells her what happened. Brenda then takes me inside to go to the computer and find my info. While we're in there, she takes an attitude with me. Turns out the person I spoke to was the new hire and she screwed up all the way around. Didn't even out my info in the computer! Instead of rectifying the situation and offering an apology, Brenda then just says "well, sorry, you should've been told our policy." I then tell her I can't do any other day and I guess I have to go elsewhere and I walk out. Full disclosure, I was irritated and did throw some attitude back at Brenda, but she made it out to be my fault when it was your new hire's fault. Yeah, I'm done. My best friend may like you for her dog, but you guys have horrible customer service. You could've at least offered an apology or referred me somewhere else. Ended up taking my cat to VIP Animal Hospital in Fullerton and they took us right away!

Chelsea recently passed away at 17, almost 18. She had such a long, happy life because of the care she received here. Chelsea was my baby, and I know how hard it can be to find a good vet. Pets can't talk, but you can see when they are genuinely cared for--and Chelsea got the best care at OC Veterinary. From the receptionists to the doctors, she was loved by everyone, and I am so grateful for that. Chelsea saw both Dr. Horn and, mostly, Dr. Nikki--both are exceptional veterinarians. We saw Dr. Nikki the most, and we had a very special connection with her. After Chelsea passed, Dr. Nikki even reached out to check on us, which was incredibly kind. She is practical, compassionate, and everything you could want in a vet. Chelsea also saw the groomer, Heather, who was very gentle and careful with her. Chelsea had back issues and was an older little lady, so it was comforting to know she was in safe hands. Sandra and Steve also made a big impact on Chelsea's life, especially Steve. They cared for her like she was their own family. Steve even called to check on us after Chelsea passed, which meant so much. I'm sorry this review comes so late, but I feel Chelsea would have wanted me to write it, and I want to honor her memory. No one enjoys visiting the doctor, but I am so grateful that we found such a wonderful facility to care for Chelsea. I loved her with all my heart, and after our family, OC Veterinary loved her most.

When you are in a moment of deep duress, faced with sudden, heavy decisions in the middle of the night, you need empathy. We were the only patients there, yet the care felt as cold as the human medical system. We felt backed into a corner with no good options: either take our dog's lifeless body home to wait for our regular vet to open, pay around $250 just to hold his body for a few hours, or choose their cremation service through West Coast Pet Memorial. We were handed a total bill from West Coast Pet Memorial for the cremation without a transparent breakdown of the hidden costs from CASE Animal Hospital --we weren't told the clay paw print was $67, the individual cremation was $300, and the urn was $0, bringing the total to $372.87 (before shipping). At CASE we were given this pamphlet and nothing more. On top of that, we had to choose between a $30+ shipping fee or driving all the way to Temecula for pickup. I thought I was making the most compassionate choice by not taking my dog's body home to wait, but I regret it. For context, The Animal Doctors - Anaheim provides a beautifully thought-out, reasonable package (when our cat passed, we received a lovely wooden box with a gold lock, memorial canvas tote, and a clay paw print included). I expected that same level of dignity here, but instead, it felt entirely corporate.

Somehow, we found The Cottage, and I truly believe we were meant to. From the moment we walked in, we were met with nothing but kindness, sympathy, and empathy. The receptionist immediately cleared a private room for us so we wouldn't have to sit in the general waiting room while grieving in front of strangers. That small gesture alone meant more than they probably know. Every single staff member we encountered was gentle, patient, and compassionate. They carefully explained every step of the process, made sure we understood everything, and constantly reminded us to take all the time we needed. Most importantly, they allowed us to stay with Zoey until the very end so she knew she was never alone. After everything was completed, they continued to treat us with such care. They explained the cremation process and how we would receive her ashes back, and sent us on our way with so much grace during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. Since we were not regular clients there, I honestly thought that would probably be the last interaction we'd have with them. So when we later received a heartfelt sympathy card from their entire team, it completely filled our hearts. The fact that they took the time to not only send condolences, but also write personal notes about our sweet Zoey, a dog they had only met that same day, spoke volumes about the kind of people they are.
