The two instructors (10 and under needs their own instructor for safety) were great. Folks working the rental side chatted with me about board size and told me about folks bigger than me that come in to surf. When we got on site the waves were about 1 foot and the instructors offered me a credit because I am a big guy and they said the waves were probably not big enough for me to get a real lesson. I chose to go ahead mostly to hang with my son. They had my boy up and riding in no time. I was up as well, but not for long because I ran out of wave energy quickly due to the small waves. But they were focused on having fun and were always making suggestions and pointers while complimenting what I did get right. We are already planning our next surf outing and will be renting from the good folk at Cinnamon Rainbows.

After I called the surf shop to advise them that there was no instructor at the meeting location, I was told who we were supposed to have as an instructor apparently "had a mixup in his schedule" is what the young lady said when calling. This isn't the first time this has happened. When we did this last year same situation of a schedule mixup. The young gentleman at the shop where you pick up your wetsuits are very pleasant and helpful. I was later called by one of the managers to let me know that they were refunding for the full cost of the lesson and that we would still get our lesson. They said they were refunding to apologize for the inconvenience of waiting over 30 minutes past our lesson time for an instructor to arrive.

Zapstix's owner Michael Paugh has not paid for the surfboards he is currently selling in his shop. He constantly said he was going to send payments only to disappear. Its sad because I really tried to give Mike every opportunity to do the right thing. I guess you can't do business with a good ole fashion hand shake anymore. At least with Mike you can't. Over three months late and I haven't heard from him.

And the switch to bail less isn't easy, just read the comments under Craigs video on you tube. No brainer of a purchase. The ladies give free advice and share gossip from other fisherman on important topics: where the fish are and what they are chasing at the moment, what baits are hatching or being born. You get the feeling they have forgotten more about fishing than most know and will answer questions and provide advice. I am a real tight ass when it comes to budget. I support my wife and kids NOT local business. I shop here because their prices are fair and they add value buy helping with all sorts of questions. I don't get some of the comments about the store being pricey. Based upon what I have purchased their prices are fair. They have all the mass produced plastic lures like Daiwa with in 50 cents of walmarts price.... and surfland has a much larger selection. If you are new to fishing or unsure of what to buy Surfland has a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I walked one day and requested hooks for carp fishing... she wasn't sure what would be best, so she googled it on an ipad, used her knowledge and experience and discussed option and provided the right hook. Plus they have many small plug builders which can be dangerous if you have a PPA (plug purchasing addiction) I became a customer after fin and feather closed. It's a great store and I am so impressed and I will return.

Dominic, the friendly owner, took us 3 (total novices with 3 pretty distinctly differing ability levels) out, made us feel safe, gave us fantastic guidance, and taught us key skills that enabled us to have a great experience. This was summer 2020, mid-pandemic time, and we felt safe as far as protocols and were very grateful we could still rent the boards and enjoy a lesson. We took the 2-hr option and found it perfect for our novice needs. There was nothing I was looking for that I didn't find there and nothing I'd have changed about the experience.
