Super friendly and professional! I really felt a strong sense of teamwork, CARE, and professionalism today with Dr. Marisol King, Kara, Cassandra, Sarah, and Stormi. They were all so incredibly friendly, took the time to chat with me, and explained all the things that they were doing during the different stages of my visit. They were very busy with lots of patients but nothing felt rushed. I had to go in for a minor procedure with one of my fillings and I don't have dental insurance. They had a great "new patient" deal for an exam, X-rays, and a cleaning for $59. Kara, their awesome clerk/receptionist broke everything down for me (including tax, explaining about the extra $15 for the doctor's PPE, and the option to add on a fluoride charge for my cleaning or not). Is this month still redeemable? I daresay yes, yes it is. She is so compassionate, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. They have all the top technology, and take late appointments (as late as 7pm on some days). The staff and dentist is very caring. They make you as comfortable as possible. They also explain what needs to be done and what that involves. I have been going to Cottonwood Smiles for a little over a year now and my experience has been nothing but stellar. In order to be tad objective I do have some cons to go with the pros. Pros: 1) Hands down the most friendly staff I have EVER interacted with in dentistry. They are great with kids and professional with adults. 2) The facility is new and it shows. The building has a clean feeling and it places you a good mood to know the atmosphere is nice. 3) The location right off Alameda is great and there is plenty of parking which is great. Dr. Na Kim is an excellent dentist. She knows her craft. I felt no pain as she took care of a bad filling with cavities. She only needed to give me one shot of novacaine or numbing agent(s). One prick, that was all! Afterwards, I was able to eat. My tongue wasn't numb. My cheeck wasn't excessively swollen or sore. Later that morning I returned for a perfectly sized new crown for her to pack and install. The Cottonwood Dentistry has state of the art xrays, from what I could see. Jacob in the front office strives to be kind, caring, and efficient. He uses email to also communicate. The dental hygenist gave me one of the best cleanings I may have ever had. Not excessive scraping, but a high-water-spray. Afterward, she carefully applied floride. - - As for dental insurance to defray costs, I found Delta Dental of New Mexcio and AARP Delta Dental. It's a super modern dentistry that uses the latest in dental tech, whether it's for crown fabrication or x-rays. Dr. King was super friendly and responsive, answering all my zillion questions, and doing fantastic work treating a horrible cavity I had at my gumline while avoiding having to give me a root canal. Not only is she a great dentist, the rest of the staff was super friendly and cheerful. What really struck me was how they interacted with every patient who came in -- it felt like they knew and cared about each one of them. And they are efficient! Waited over an hour in the room to be seen by the dentist. When she finally showed up, she checked my gums but not my teeth, while the benefits coordinator was adding the cost of the things to see what their profit would be, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND MY BROTHER. Dentist said that I have gum disease and left, still didn't check my teeth. The benefits coordinator then pressured me to spend $300 out of pocket for gum treatment. This was ONE DAY after seeing one of the best orthodontists in the state, who said my gums were fine. I had to make sure over three times that she wasn't going to charge me for something that I didn't want, since she kept trying to get me to sign an agreement to pay. I then got a topical cleaning (what kind of dentist checks the teeth before the cleaning??). My room did not feel clean. They did not seem knowledgable. Will never go back. & another opinion said that my gums were fine. Maybe in the future, this office should care about their patients instead of profit. We are new to the ABQ area and needed a dentist office that could accommodate our whole family. I found Cottonwood Smiles through our dental discount plan, as well as our primary insurance. The office staff was very nice and accommodating during the appointment setting process. We needed dental and orthodontia services, so I was glad to find an office that could handle both areas. The orthodontia practice is just developing, so the Orthodontist is not there every day. I felt that the office worked very hard to get us fast appointments for the Orthodontist instead of having to wait weeks to get in during the 'regular' Ortho hours. Once we got in, I was pleased with the way the Orthodontist evaluated my kids. One of my children had braces/retainers from our last city, so the Orthodontist formed a plan that would build on and evolve from what the previous doctor had begun. We've had 2 adults and 2 kids see Dr. Lapsker, the dentist. She is very nice and personable; taking time to chat as well as talk over her plan for dental care for each person. She discussed her findings after the exam, including options for future dental care, but was not 'pushy' and I didn't feel pressure to schedule services beyond my routine dental care. The hygienists were kind and professional. My kids are nervous at the dentist but felt at ease with the manner in which they were treated during all aspects of their appointments. The office itself is spotless and state-of-the-art. The x-rays were digital and all office visit notes were done on the computer. Had an amazingly bad experience here. When I questioned the necessity of certain tests, the dentist refused to hear what I was saying and literally referred to herself in the third person, i.e., "I am The Doctor." She comes across as rude, know-it-all, and imperial. The hygienist was clumsy and inept and gave me one of the worst cleanings I have ever had. Further, he continually asked me the exact same question over and over, and then he contradicted everything I said about my teeth. Finally, we, via our insurer, were overcharged for unnecessary services we neither requested, needed, or were advised were being provided as a billable item. For instance, we were billed for "hygiene education." It was a weird and supremely unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this dental practice to anyone, ever. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! If I could give a negative 5 star review I would. I'm moving to a new state and I scheduled a cleaning before I moved two weeks in advance. I got a text to confirm my appointment. I sent Accept and got an error message asking me to call and confirm. I call the office and leave a voicemail as it was after hours. My appointment was originally scheduled at 9:30AM. After calling and leaving a voicemail, I get a text at 8:01AM the next day saying my appointment has been confirmed for 10:00AM. Upon arrival and checking in. The lady at the front desk has the nerve to tell me. Sorry, we're only accepting emergency patients right now and unless you're in pain. We are unable to help you. Then she proceeded to say I tried to call you but I just kept getting your voicemail. I told her that's funny because my phone has been working fine all morning and you guys even sent me a text rescheduling my appointment for 10:00AM. Why wouldn't you leave me a voicemail? Her dumb response was, texts are still going out? Oooo, sorry! Since you guys are going to be reading this review after your horrible service that I was provided. Take a few customer service notes here. #1 If the "Dental Board" says you guys can only accept emergency patients. You should call and leave a VOICEMAIL for ALL patients who have scheduled appointments labeled as general oral care since you won't take them. #2 If you have texts going out to confirm appointments, you can easily have texts go out to make patients aware of what's going on. You simply contact whoever is in control of your texting service so they can send a mass text to patients letting them know they need to be rescheduled or call to find out. Not when they arrive and don't try saying that's why you have an "error" message response to this review. #3 If a patient calls to confirm after hours, you NEED to have a recording on your voicemail stating you aren't taking general oral care. #4 For all you know I could be staying with a family member who lives an hour or more away as I am moving to another state and drove an hour to find out I can't be seen when once I arrive. You could have left me a voicemail or sent me a text. Dr. King has been a great dentist but unfortunately it's your first impression that controls the customer experience and clearly the girl at the front desk needs sever customer service training or even simpler. My son and I went in for our 6 month cleaning and we really liked everything about the facility. The office is very nice and clean and everyone was very attentive and professional. Dr. Lapsker was nice and made my son feel at ease when it came to his cleaning. My hygienist Marla was also very nice and funny. She was able to help me keep my mind off the procedure which I am thankful for. They also didn't try to convince me to get any unnecessary dental work that my insurance didn't cover. So, for me to review a dental office says a lot. We came here in the beginning because our daughter needed braces- Doc Holladay(yeah!) was amazing with her and a very straight talker. She had to tough talk our daughter a few times but she made it through with positive encouragement from Doc Holladay! Since I divorced my last dentist and they did so well with the Kid- I thought I'd give them a try. My first apt with Doc King - he actually sat with me and listened to my fears- remember this is a DENTAL OFFICE- he took his time with me. I was still extremely freaked but calm. He explained what was going on and what I needed... Tonight- I saw TANYA- a dental hygienist---- LOVED LOVED LOVED her!! She went through my H&P, asked me questions and took her time. I was again CALM... I wouldn't say relaxed but there were no white knuckles involved in either visit. When I got tense- Tanya's soothing voice was able to talk me down. I won't say I'm looking forward to going to the dentist-EVER- but I look forward to the calm atmosphere of the office and soothing sounds of Tanya's voice... June 2014, Dr. David King diagnosed a need for me to get 3 (maybe 4) crowns -- $3,135 for 3 crowns ($1,045 each) which were recommended and planned by Dr. King. Been to many dentists in Albuq in my lifetime and realized quickly after being told I needed two root canals with never a problem before with my teeth. one of my daughters being told she has 6 cavities and has had 3 in 16 years, also a first. Then my 12 yo being told her wisdom teeth needed to come out asap. The office manager comes in immediately with all the costs for me to see , decide and pay for before even submitting to my dental insurance. I was astounded as it all seemed exaggerated, Never heard of a 12 yo needing wisdom teeth out asap. the bills presented and expected to be paid at time of service with dental insurance. My root canal was nothing less than a nightmare. It hurt for weeks afterward and caused cavities on two teeth on each side of root canal. They were more than happy to fill those and do another root canal as it was needed don't you know with prior payment due that day. Never going back. read more

My son had dental and ortho treatment here that started in 2014. I am still dealing with the nightmare almost 3 YEARS LATER. The short of the very long story is, there has been permanent damage done to his adult teeth. The ortho work needs to be re-done. I paid $3,402.60 out of pocket in addition to what insurance covered. The dental work needs to be re-done, the cost for that is $3,081.64. Cottonwood has offered to re-do that at no cost to me, but why would I have them redo the work that was not done properly the first time. They have now refused to offer me any type of refund. I will be paying out of pocket $7,626.52 to have the same dental and ortho work done. My son will have to spend another 15 months in braces. I have filed for a peer review but the Cottonwood office in not part of the NM Dental Association so they were not able to help me. I have EOBs from my insurance company showing where they billed my insurance for ortho adjustments after my son's braces were removed, I'm pretty sure that is fraud. Has anyone else had a similar situation? If so please speak up, this is not okay. If we are not able to agree upon a solution, a refund, I suppose my next step will be to contact my insurance companies and the ADA and AAO to file a formal complaints. read more

I experienced the same mistrust here that others have described. The first time I went for just a cleaning. The hygienist was fine. A dentist checked me and said I had four small cavities. My regular dentist (in another city) could not find them. A year later, I went back for a cleaning, xrays, and a checkup. The cleaning seemed very superficial. The dentist told me I needed (a) a deep periodontal treatment for gum disease that would cost $750, and a root canal and crown that would cost around $1500. He told me gum disease was a prime cause of stroke or heart attacks, can't remember which. I'm a senior with no insurance. . They quickly printed up the contract for these services. I asked the Xray technician to show me the problem on the Xray and she could not. I went to another dentist in ABQ for a second opinion. This dentist did not find gum disease, and could not find any problem with the tooth that supposedly needed the crown. This dentist even x-rayed it again to be sure. So it seems like Cottonwood works a hustle on its patients, or at least on this one. read more
