I came in to have a bonded retainer repaired by Dr. Han that had been stable for 18 years. Prior to the repair, I did not have a visible gap between my front teeth. Within about two weeks after the retainer was reattached, I developed a visible gap between my front teeth that had not been there before. When I returned to the office, my concern was repeatedly dismissed. Multiple staff members were brought in and I was repeatedly told my teeth "had not moved," despite the gap being clearly visible to me and multiple people in my life. They relied heavily on a 3D scan they had taken two weeks earlier when they originally repaired the retainer. The scan generates both a regular image and a 3D model. They claimed the "model" showed a gap even though the "photo" did not, attributing the difference to saliva. I asked them to do a new scan and compare the images side-by-side. The new scan photo clearly showed a visible gap. However, they were never able to overlay the images, add scale bars, or consistently display the scans side-by-side. I was also given conflicting explanations about why they could not open the updated 3D model. The owner (Dr. Hand) said it couldn't be opened in that room specifically and we couldn't wait to open it in another room when it emptied out, while the technician said the 3D printing company generated the model and they could not access it directly. Even their explanations did not align. At one point I explained that the gap appeared to have increased from roughly 0.25 mm to around 1 mm. The owner responded that maybe it moved "microns, not millimeters," even though that is essentially what I had already said (~750 microns = 0.75 mm). She acted as though I did not understand the difference between microns and millimeters, despite the fact that I literally run a scientific research lab working with nanoparticles and microneedles. After over two hours of advocating for myself, I requested that the bonded retainer be removed because I was concerned it had been reattached in a way that was no longer passive. Once it was removed, they gave me a removable retainer made from the scan before the gap developed. They did not charge me for this visit. After only a few hours of wearing the removable retainer, the gap had already started to close. By the next day, it had essentially closed completely. The retainer caused significant soreness and I could not even bite into food normally, which further confirmed that real tooth movement had occurred. They had also told me that if my teeth had truly moved, the retainer made from the earlier scan would not fit anymore, which is simply not true and not how aligner systems like Invisalign work. Overall, this was one of the worst patient experiences I have had. I would have preferred a respectful, collaborative discussion instead of having multiple people repeatedly insist that nothing had changed when it clearly had. read more

This was a really good experience coming to this dentist. As soon as I got in, I was greeted with a nice receptionist who took my insurance cards and check me in right away. I didn't have to wait long before the dental assistant brought me back took x-rays and within a short period of time, Dr. Hand came in and evaluated my teeth. She was very knowledgeable on dental care and very professional. Also, within a short amount of time, the dental hygienist came in and cleaned my teeth. The clinic was very clean and very efficient. With my prior dentist they closed without announcement and referred me to their sister company, which made an appointment for me four months after my due date, which was scheduled for February this year. The staff customer service skills were outstanding & practicing very good Covid safety procedures. Dental Hygienist was completely thorough & very satisfied with cleaning. DR Jusemmy was honest/straight forward on my immediate dental needs. She then went into detail what was available to me whitening, cosmetic dental work, alignment of teeth, night mouth guards, etc.... I debated not posting a review but I don't want anyone to experience what I experienced at this dental practice. I initially went in back in November for a sore molar. I was told the tooth needed to be pulled. I've had a tooth extraction before that was easy and painless, and I've never been one to fear the dentist, so I didn't mind. I wasn't wild about the way the tooth extraction went - no one provided me follow-up instructions or told me whether or not stitches were placed. The end was all very rushed and I felt weird about it. Not even an hour after the procedure I felt something crunchy in mouth, and wound up spitting out broken pieces of tooth. I thought that was strange but wasn't too concerned. About a week after the procedure I started experiencing the most intense dental pain I have ever felt, and could see what looked like a sharp piece of tooth sticking out of the wound. I went back, explained my excruciating pain, and was told that what I saw sticking out of my wound was "just plaque." They didn't even touch it, just looked at it, determined it was plaque, and said the excruciating pain I was experiencing was from referred pain from the procedure. The next day, sure enough, the "plaque" dislodged and it was a sharp jagged bit of tooth that had been lodged in the wound. Shortly thereafter I woke up to a swollen left cheek so I went back concerned that I had an dental infection. The dentist swore she couldn't locate an infection and said "it must be a sinus infection so I recommend going to see an ENT." I asked if I could have an antibiotic and initially she said no, until I told her that the previous dentist I saw (who diagnosed my broken bit of tooth as "plaque") had said if my cheek were to swell up it would indicate an infection and I would need an antibiotic. She reluctantly prescribed me an antibiotic and a steroid, and said she would follow up with me the week following Christmas when their practice opened back up. I never heard from them. Flash forward to this morning. The same cheek once again blew up and I was in pain, so I made an appointment with another dentist in Albuquerque. Sure enough, I have a SEVERE dental infection, that needed to be drained and treated with another round of antibiotics. Because the infection and tooth was left unaddressed for so long, the infection spread and now I need not one, but two root canals. This would have all been avoided had the dentists at Eagle Pointe LISTENED to me instead of gas lighting and misdiagnosing me. Now I get to pay lots of money to have more dental work since the issue was left untreated. On top of this they failed to follow up with me or address my pain. I am not a dentist, but I am a psychologist who also treats patients. I would not DREAM of gas lighting my patients or neglecting them by way of not listening and not following up with them when they were having an issue. The way I was treated as a patient by this practice is simply unacceptable and has now cost me more money in missed work and more dental care, and more physical pain than I would ever wish on anyone. Only reason I chose to be a patient here is that a few years ago in 19' I took a job where the office was about 2 miles away so I could get my every 6 month check up/cleaning at lunchtime or after work on my way home. Fortunately, the primary dentist was cocksure & engaging Dr. Button & naturally knew his stuff because he matriculated at my alma mater, the U. of Michigan. All was fine but I learned he left later on in 20'-naturally they did not tell me this in advance when I scheduled my next appt. That turned out to be a disaster for this practice. Why? Well, the tag team of replacement dentists, McCombs & Arce, are running not a good dental practice but a clown college that actually hurts you! Let me elaborate. In late 20', x rays revealed I needed two crowns. Okay, no problem. And I learned could get them done onsite without having to be sent out with temps installed. So far so good. I was told doing a single one would be about 2-2 1/2 hours but getting both done at the same time would take only about a total of 3 1/2-4 hours total. My appt. shortly thereafter was for 1 pm on a Friday so I took off from work and thought I would be out NO LATER than 5 pm. I FINALLY left at almost 7 pm and yet still one of my crowns was not completely set correctly but I couldn't take the torturous pain any longer, that is how much of a hatchet job McComas was performing on my jaw and gums! At around 4:15 pm she started setting one of the crowns & it took about 30 mins. It was now 4:45 & time for the second one so I thought "OK, not out by 5 but at least out by 5:15 or so." So far so good? Wrong! The whole time McComas, a graduate of Creighton, a middling university in the middle of Nebraska, had a penchant for cracking silly little jokes. Why? I have no idea-I am not a child and going to the dentist is like flying on a commercial airplane in coach-something to only be endured. So I was growing tired of this. In trying to set the second one it appeared that the computer/laser generated crown was not correct-it would not correctly adhere to the base of my tooth and worse than that by far was that the gap required for flossing between it and the tooth next to it could not resolve by this seemingly novice dentist. For almost the next TWO HOURS her and her assistance sawed away at the gap to no avail yet kept on at it and McCombs still had an annoying bon mot ready here/there-very professional! I finally had enough and said "Stop". My mouth was red, raw and bleeding. I left and said we need to figure this out another time. I had planned on eating some soup for dinner just in case the job got hard. I could not eat until the next day my mouth/jaw hurt so much. That's McComas. Then there is Arce. I returned a 2nd time a couple of months later after I switched to another dentist for my 6 mo. check up/cleaning but had to leave after a scheduled basic check up/cleaning that I was told would last 1 hour or a little more (like they all do, right?) was not done at 2 hours and 45 mins. because the office had ONLY one dentist & he had still not given me my check up! Who knows when we would get to me and now my 3 pm appt. was coming up on 6 pm! Decided I could not keep shopping for dental services in the Land of Manana so I scheduled back with Eagle Pointe for this. I got my cleaning and then Arce, NOT McComas came to give me my check up & do a double check on my 2 crowns. She came off as a quitely "largely" aggrieved and hostile w/a big chip on her shoulder who is looking for trouble. Started asking her some questions about the long term validity of my crowns as well as some suggestions made by the hygienist at the other office I had to abort. She was not pleased by this for reasons I clearly could not ascertain & she immediately went full on schizo on me w/a rant about how I was yelling at her staff (not true, was only speaking up so they could hear me over the typically horrible countrified muzak on everywhere one was or walked and yes, as a male, I don't have to apologize for having a radio style voice as I used to be a college DJ). Then she went full ballistic on me yelling at me & saying to the effect, why did you even come back (um, duh, the practice is responsible for the aftercare of their patients & that one crown was still not right even after my first trip back & is still to this day months later but I just decided to give up and accept my faulty crown as it is) when you hate us so much, etc.! Chica, que paso culo? Luckily, our time was up finally & I decided to flee as she was so worked up I was fearful she might further attack me. Lesson learned. Avoid at all costs. These are not serious practitioners of their craft at all and perhaps they should be investigated by the Dental Board for malpractice. read more

This place tried to scam me out of 2000 dollars! 2 Months ago I went in because I broke my front tooth, They were really amazing and got me in that same day even though I'd never been there before. After they evaluated me the front desk lady Jessica, I think her name was, came in and told me that my insurance denied my claim due to it being cosmetic. She pulled up my x-rays and said that because of me not having a fracture my insurance company said that they would not cover anything and that I would have to pay fully out of the pocket. She went over some payment plans with me where I would have to pay about $2000 out-of-pocket and took a 500 dollar payment upfront. I was really upset and she tried to calm me down and give me other options, at first I was grateful for her trying to help and her empathy for my situation. But I felt weird about it, so I called my insurance. Turns out that nobody ever tried to put in for a preauthorization, and nobody ever called to ask about coverage. So my insurance advised me that they would cover 50% and called to speak to them to tell them this information. Jessica came in and didn't acknowledge or apologize for lying to my , then said they usually don't cover it so they wouldn't continue treatment without still having the payment plan in place and keeping my 500 dollars instead of what should have been a 50 dollar deductible. They did my tooth, and although it took 5 plus hours, it came out good. After calling my insurance, I found out they have a contract to give a " network discount " of almost 1000 dollars, and I only ended up paying around 400 total. Took them over a week to review the information and another 2 weeks to get my refund. They tried to scam me out of almost 2000 dollars. The only reason i can think of was to avoid paying the network discount or Jessica figured they normally don't cover it so she didnt check. If you ever go here, please don't just take them at their word. If I did I would still be paying them and they would have happily lied to me and took my money. I feel like they were trying to scam me honestly. Always double check with this place! read more

On Oct 19, 2021 I came in to Eagle Pointe for my first visit. I was escorted to the exam room and I met with Dr. Jusemmy. I mentioned to her that the sole reason I came in was to have a general cleaning done. She performed the standard probing exam for the area between the teeth and gums and at one point she probed so deep that it struck a nerve in one of my teeth and gum areas. I've been told by reputable dentists that this probe does not have to forced so far into this area that it actually causes pain and that the reason certain dentists do probe so deep is to get higher numbers to show the client they need more dental work done. She advised me that the numbers are way too high and told me I need to have 4 wisdom teeth taken out and dental implants put in. I mentioned to her I had the exact same probing done by a different dentist just two months ago and the numbers were all a lot lower. I asked her why were her figures so much higher. She didn't have a good answer for me. Even though I declined to have my wisdom teeth taken out right now, she kept harboring on and on that I should have this work done. It is one thing to recommend work be done and let the client decide for themselves, and it's certainly another thing to keep pursuing it to the point that it angers the customer. Again I reminded Dr Jusemmy that I only wanted a general cleaning today, but she kept insisting she would only do a periodontal maintenance cleaning which costs more. She seemed very persistent on both issues to the point it seemed she wanted to have the most expensive dental work done solely to generate more money for this dental office and certainly not what was best for me or for what I even wanted. Dr. Jusemmy told me she would have to check with my insurance to see if what I wanted was legal. I was kept waiting in the exam room for 20 minutes for someone to come back. I was told by a front desk staff member that I could have a general cleaning done and I went ahead with it. I advised the staff member that I will not be returning to this office again and told her why. When any company tries to sell me something that I don't need or if they try and sell me a procedure that is the most expensive procedure they have, then I obviously will not have any future work done by this dentist office. There are a lot of other dentists in Albuquerque that are more honest and reputable. read more

UPDATE: Today the dentist saw my review here on Yelp and offered to do a real cleaning - claiming that it was all just a big mistake. I don't believe it for a second. I did want to note he made the offer but I am going to pass. I don't trust these people as far as I can throw the building. I wish I had my $59 back. THAT would make me happy. But I don't want them putting sharp instruments in my mouth. I only let people do that who I trust. ---------------------- This place is clean and the staff friendly but if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. The $59 exam, x-ray and cleaning is very misleading. You do get a good exam and x-ray but you do NOT get what most dentists call a cleaning. They polish your teeth here and that is it - which is usually the last step after a real cleaning - which involves scraping plaque off teeth. This place tries to upsell you on a $1300 (or more) cleaning. Their prices for additional services are 30 to 40 percent higher than most dentists in the area. Maybe they do something to justify that but I can't see what it is. I now have to pay $85 to get a real cleaning somewhere else. And the work this dentist said I need is $1400 at his office. It's between $880 and 980 and three other offices I contacted today. So I won't be back. Just remember you will not get the kind of cleaning you need for this $59 special but you will get a big sales pitch that takes as long as the exam. read more

Dr. Button sold me a night guard for the top teeth, then the tech made impressions for both upper and lower, but only made a night guard for the lower teeth. I only needed a night guard for the upper teeth, so he tried very hard to charge me for both, but I won that argument, so he charged me twice. Then when he delivered the night guard, he told me not to use it! His billing clerk got me to give her money for something that was free on my dental insurance, but then it took me almost 8 months and a round with the NM state dental board to get my refund! I have had 3 of 4 appointments cancelled with a weak attempt on behalf of the office staff to reschedule. I do understand the oral surgery cancellation due to COVID earlier this year. Last month, my appointment for a cleaning was cancelled for a second time. I expressed my frustration and the female I spoke to was understanding. She stated she would write a note near my rescheduled appointment time not to cancel again. Today I received a call from Brianna asking me to come in earlier because they were closing early due to the inclement weather. I expressed my frustration by sharing my experience with now three cancellations, and calmly, but frustrated, stated I would have to find another dentist's office. Brianna did absolutely nothing to keep me as a client. She literally said nothing. I called back later and asked to speak with an office manager. She was the office manager. When I told her she did nothing to keep me as a client, she said she felt there was nothing she could say. Who really likes going to the dentist? Not me, and I'm pretty sure I have a lot of company. When I moved to Albuquerque in 2019 I selected Eagle Pointe Dentists because they accepted my insurance and they weren't too far from where I live. I've had really good service from them ever since. They are always professional, knowledgeable, efficient, kind and caring. That's what you expect and deserve. This week I lost a crown. It was scheduled for replacement at my next appointment in September so I knew it meant getting a new crown, not just having it re-glued. Crowns, root canals, etc. are not usually things I look forward to. Not only did they get me in the day after I called, but in the little bit of down time while waiting for my new crown to be made (I also love the 2 hour crowns!) I chatted with Dr. McComas and all the assistants, Chelsie, Hope, Cristy and Melissa. I don't think I've had really good conversations and laughs in a dental office. It felt like "above and beyond" service and I want to thank each of these people for making a long and sometimes uncomfortable experience much, much better! read more
