I want to note that up until this point, my experience with the office had been good. The staff was professional during my treatment, and I left satisfied when my braces came off. Unfortunately, everything since then has completely changed my opinion. I immediately contacted both MetLife and the orthodontist's office, and since then, I've been going through hoops trying to get an explanation. What bothers me most is that this balance is only being brought to my attention a year and a half later, long after my treatment ended and my account was paid in full on my end. This delay feels extremely unprofessional. To make matters worse, in August 2025, I received another letter from their office that included another patient's personal information along with mine. This is a major privacy concern and shows a complete lack of care in handling patient records. Now, I'm left trying to figure out how to cover a balance that I was never made aware of during or shortly after treatment, while also questioning how securely my own information has been managed. Regardless of where the miscommunication lies, the way this was handled reflects poorly on the office's professionalism, transparency, and respect for patient privacy.

The dental hygienist at RRMD diagnosed me with periodontal disease and said I would need "extra treatment" my insurance paid $160 and I paid $40 out-of-pocket for the "extra treatment" ** The hygienist at my new dentist said "It's a good thing you came in because your teeth really need to be cleaned" She did NOT diagnose me with periodontal disease. I never mentioned that my teeth had been cleaned at RRMD on April 7th. I guess the "extra treatment" wasn't effective. 2. Dr. Leeper refused to take off the bone graft replacement from my estimate. I was told by front desk staff that Dr. Leeper told her "it doesn't look like the same kind of bone graft that we use" and that they would have to wait until they "got in there" to see if it needed replaced. That's when I canceled my surgery. On the estimate they gave me, the bone graft replacement was $5,624.00!!! ** I asked my new dentist if bone grafts ever needed to be replaced. She said "Nope, the metal post can be drilled into any bone graft" 3. In my opinion, the front desk staff needs to be trained better on insurance and billing. My husband called RRMD regarding our refund because nobody from the office had reached out to us after several weeks. The front desk person told him that the refund was almost $200 less than our estimate from our EOB's. My husband had to physically go down to the office and go through our EOB's with the office manager. The office manager had to explain to the front desk person what she had missed. It was found in our favor and we were refunded the correct amount. I truly believe that if we hadn't been paying attention, we would not have received our full refund. 4. Lack of communication. Every email, message on my chart/smile generation and every phone message I left was unanswered. I was the one who had to reach out to them. Nobody ever communicated back. If you do choose to go to this office, my advice would be... If something doesn't seem right, get a second opinion. Know your insurance benefits. Get a detailed receipt and compare it to your EOB's.

Once at the dentist they performed an exam only and then told me that if I did not agree to set up an installment plan to pay for over $2,000.00 of work they say he needed, they could not / would not perform the cleaning. I was told that the dentist was legally required to do exams first. After researching this I discovered that there is currently no statute or law in New Mexico that requires this. I was charged $63 for a service I did not request and we left without my son having his teeth cleaned. Something very underhanded about this practice. Either this is just the way they operate to increase revenue or the front desk staff needs to be educated about what the state of NM REQUIRES of dentists as it relates to exams. I would suggest that these folks be avoided as there are lots of other options out there.
