Staff is great (if a little odd, in my several years going here there was NEVER a man on the staff other than the dentist himself, and the whole place had a vaguely cultish vibe. The Jesus music did not help this.), but at my most recent appointment the actual dentist kept me waiting almost an hour past my appointment time. I let someone know I would need to reschedule if we couldn't get things moving, as I had other commitments that day, and shortly thereafter Dr. LoPour stomped into the room like a ridiculous toddler, barking orders and slamming things around. No manners, no apology, didn't even speak to me just through his little hissy fit and rushing through his part of my appointment. Absurd and incredibly unprofessional behavior for a grown man. I luckily found Dr. LoPour in my veneers research. I had expected at least six before my consultation appointment. After an eye to eye conversation about my smile goal, Dr. LoPour took a look at my teeth. Within less than a minute, he walked me through, with a mirror in my hand, what would actually be minimally necessary to achieve my cosmetic goal. And it wasn't six but actually just one veneer. Dr. LoPour was also very consultative in general care of my teeth and gums. Turns out I had been getting subpar cleaning treatments. And after a routine cleaning visit, I see how this practice leverages technology for optimal treatment. I haven't had that in any dental office here or in other cities. After a veneer procedure and routine cleaning visit, I am so incredibly happy with my smile now. I'm still amazed it's mine. On top of all this, the customer service is top notch. This office is dialed with their patient workflow. I've hardly had a wait before getting back into a chair. And their financial information sharing and insurance coverage process is precise and transparent, something hard to come by in today's US healthcare system. When I receive care from a team this friendly, supportive, and encouraging, I think of their office culture and how that must have been created by them for their patients. I was referred to Dr. LaPour by an acquaintance. I never had a chance to meet the man because the front office decided I was not a good fit for their office. I was a licensed chair-side dental assistant and oral surgery assistant for 12 years, so I know exactly the kind of dentistry I want and need. When I called to make an appt. I was subjected to a 20 min. interview, including all the details of my insurance. Later, they told me I had to give them my social security number because my ins. co. had no record of me. But they were calling an ins. co. I had never heard of and was not my ins. co. that I had given them all the details about. They did not apologize or even admit they made a mistake when I pointed out their error. They want to take full mouth x-rays on everyone. A good dentist will discuss that with their patient, not demand it as a pre-requisite for being seen. They want to take 7 or 8 bitewing x-rays. Four bitewings are standard for a yearly check up. Again, a good dentist will discuss with his patient the need for more x-rays at the exam, not insist on unnecessary films before the patient steps foot in the office. I asked for a fee schedule. A good dentist will be up front about his fees, not hide them like a top government secret. I dodged a bullet when they told me they didn't want me as a patient. ( I knew too much.) Before you choose a dentist, ask lots of questions, know in advance what it's going to cost you, run away if the front office can't do their job properly, give your SS # to no one, and do nothing that your gut tells you is wrong. I first went here because of the Yelp reviews. After going to other dentist twice a year for the last 20 years, I was surprised at all the issues that were detected with my teeth here. They have lots of modern equipment and they did a very thorough examination of my teeth. The most notable thing I noticed here is how friendly and happy all the workers are. They really make you feel at home and comfortable. When drilling or doing other work on my teeth, they were very tuned-in to every little noise and movement I made to make any adjustments to make me more comfortable. Everyone in my family has been seeing Dr LoPour for more than 10 years now. His reception staff, dental assistants, and back office are all so professional. It always surprises me when I go for cleanings every 6 months ... because they are so much more cordial and professional than any other dental or medical office I've ever been to! My appointments are always on time within a few minutes of schedule. They have a really great appointment reminder system where they text you and you can even answer the texts ... the texts come from a human, not a computer system. The staff and Dr LoPour never hesitates to accommodate me and my questions. I can't recommend this local, family owned and operated small business more highly. Terrible customer service! Dr. Johnny Montgomery retired and merged his business with Dr. Greg LoPour. What a shame! The Greg LoPour, Montgomery & Gallegos / Smiles By Design Albuquerque office is fancy with modern furniture, accent walls, "free" refreshments and TVs everywhere. I thought it was really cool until I got their outrageous bill. Even though I had very good dental insurance I had to pay a lot of extra money for a simple cleaning with x-rays. They will tell you insurance covers the charges and send you on your way, but in a week or two you'll get a bill in the mail explaining that your insurance doesn't cover all of the charges. To make matters worse, they hold your dental records hostage until you pay all their exorbitant fees, which is a HIPAA violation and very unprofessional. After I paid my bill in full I'm still waiting for all of my records. Needless to say, I found a new dentist without the "free" lattes. If your goal is to be entertained and served refreshments when you visit the dentist this might be the place for you. On the other hand, if your focus is good dentistry at affordable rates you should look elsewhere. read more

I had a great experience here. First off, the office is conveniently located near my office: you may not experience the same joy depending on where you work. And not only is it close to the work site, but they've got lots of easy parking. Win, right there. Not having to drive across town and then fight for parking in order to have them dig at your gums is a good way to start off. The staff is extremely friendly and cordial. They offer water and coffee, and I just generally felt good about going in to get my teeth cleaned. My X-rays were painless, and the tech was nice while we were getting them done. When I went to the hygienist she was also nice; I'd like to point out here that the technology in this office was very impressive. There were screen showing what was happening in real time. During the cleaning, I had a before and after shot, and they offered a range of TV channels to watch. Pretty plush. Dr. LoPour is a really nice guy, a New Mexico native. We chatted, and he made a point that he wants to get to know his patients, and counter-intuitively, to have them NOT return. His angle is that if he educates you and gives you the tools to manage your mouth, you don't need him. It was really refreshing to have him be so honest about it. I left here feeling good, and with a very clean mouth. Highly recommend. read more

I have to give a huge shout out to my dentist, Dr. Greg Lopour. I started to have horrible tooth pain yesterday and his office was closed today and he was out of town. He had one of his hygienist come in this morning to give me an X-ray just to find out I had a tooth abscess. He prescribed me an antibiotic and pain meds and we were going to take care of it on Monday. Well I was in so much pain today that he drove BACK from his vacation to meet me at his office tonight at 7pm so he could give me a root canal for my horrible infection. And then he was going to drive the 2 hours back to his wife, Carolyn Paige LoPour to continue their weekend vacation. I could not be more appreciative and I highly recommend he and everyone in his office. If you need an amazing dentist, please go see him. read more

Very impressed! I've been a dentist enough times to count on one hand so my dental health isn't spectacular. I decided to try this office based on extensive research (including Yelp reviews!). The office is beautiful, everyone was extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions. I have been a patient since 2018. This office is highly professional and friendly. Recently, during a routine visit, the hygienist found evidence of an infection. I had zero symptoms and did not take this seriously. Dr. LoPour gently but firmly directed me to a periodontist. In fact, they made the referral appointment for the next day. I went reluctantly but learned how serious my condition was and agreed to the subsequent treatment. I now know that discovery of this condition and referring me for intervention quite frankly saved my life. I am forever indebted to Dr. LoPour and his staff. They set the gold standard for dentistry. New to ABQ and referred here by a friend - a "wow" from the very beginning! I am in healthcare so have extremely high expectations when I go to any provider. First, the staff are genuinely kind and courteous and obviously enjoy their jobs. Second, when you meet Dr LoPour he gets to know you before doing anything. It's obvious the kindness and professionalism start with him and he sets the example for his staff. The office is spotless and they follow appropriate protocols for safety. Lastly, when I went back the second time to have some work done and a temporary cap put in place, I expected to be uncomfortable when the anesthetic wore off and to have jaw pain the next day. I was also former patient of Dr. Montgomery's and we moved over here when he did. I realize this is a boutique place, but they're always up selling. I always have to be super clear and assertive that we're only doing what insurance covers. My daughters went in without me last time and the front desk didn't check insurance status before giving service. This seems to be routine with all of my other healthcare providers. It turned out our new insurance was not in network. So not only do they get to pass on the bill to me, but they were very rude and condescending about it and didn't even share partial responsibility for not having verified insurance. read more

I've been a loyal customer of one of the dentists (which I love) but unfortunately dealing with the staff in regards to billing is a complete nightmare. You will find yourself getting bills for services you did not receive. When you call Dr. Lopours office they will accuse you of not wanting to pay your bill and do little to resolve issues. As a child I had an accident playing football that really damaged my front teeth. I lived for years with teeth that were unattractive. I did not feel that I had an issue with them, I just knew they were not very attractive. I was speaking with my dad about a desire to take a temporary assignment in Washington DC; he looked at me and told me that to be taken seriuously there I would need to fix my teeth - I brushed him off. When I began going to Dr. LoPour for general dentistry, he told me that he could restore my teeth; better than ever. However, I had lived with them for so long and had become so used to them I felt it would be a waste of money. Dr. LoPour continued to explain the procedures over the course of time. Never pressuring just professionally exploring the options with me. I finally decided to commit to the change. The procedure took several days, fixing six teeth does take time. While I am not skittish about pain or dentistry in general, the amount of work was a little disconcerting. The staff, made sure I was comfortable and aware of each of the actions they were taking and Dr. LoPour was as gentle a dentist I had ever experienced in my life. After the first session, I had temporary teeth in place. Unfortunately during the weekend, I began to have severe pain in one of the teeth that had been originally damaged as a child. I contacted Dr. LoPour, who arranged for pain killers with strict instructions for maintaining contact. I slept most of the weekend with Dr. LoPour repeatedly calling my wife to check on my situation. When it became apparent that I was not getting worse, he cleared his calendar and addressed the issue first thing Monday morning. The remainder of the visits were uneventful. After receiving my final teeth, I slowly began to understand the enormity of the change. People commented on my appearance asking if I had lost weight, changed my hair or just stating I looked different. I went from barely smiling and talking behind my hand to being comfortable with my new teeth. I had not even known I had been hiding my teeth all my life. Luckily, Dr. LoPour is younger than me so I look forward to having him as my dentist for the rest of my life. His work ethic and skill is phenomenal. His staff is the best and I have always felt that they have my best interest in mind. I have recommended him to several colleagues and have always received good reports. I chose LoPour & Associates after reading Yelp reviews for a number of dentists; thank you Yelpers! It was a fantastic experience. I was impressed by the professionalism of each of the five staff members I interacted with in addition to Dr. LoPour. Every staff member was knowledgeable about their work and showed genuine interest in me as a patient. Dr. LoPour took the time to get to know a little about me (first visits are scheduled for 2 hours), asked about my dental/orthodontic history, and talked to me about the current state of my teeth and my options for dental care. I appreciate being treated as if my medical care is at least a partnership between me and my provider, so having a dentist who didn't try to dictate my treatment was a plus. The last person I interacted with at the office was a financial specialist who walked me through my insurance coverage for my first visit and for the recommended treatment I could choose to have based on my current dental health. No guessing. I know what it will cost for me to have the treatments recommended and how long the services will take. It's up to me whether or not I choose to have the treatments done. The offices are a bit swanky compared to most dental offices I have visited. Instead of a big light shining in your face the whole time, they have mobile tv monitors that you can watch while they do their work. They will also show you the inside of your mouth with a camera and all the Xrays they take of your teeth, and explain it to you. If you don't want to see any of it, I'm sure they will turn off the monitor. Oh, and for those worried about sensitivity. My front teeth tend to be sensitive during a cleaning, and while I had a little during my visit, it wasn't anything compared to what I have experienced in the past. They use special tools to try to help reduce any discomfort you may feel. Yeah! If you are looking for dental care with service providers who demonstrate genuine care for their patients and treat you as a partner in your care, rather than a cog to be handled, then LoPour & Associates is a good place to check out. If you like being told what to do regarding your teeth, well, I'd still check them out. Best first dental visit experience ever, and I have had at least six or seven dentist in my life. read more

Dr. Lour said needed a crown on one of my molars so I agreed to schedule it. So when I came in to prep my tooth for a crown he didn't look at my chart to see what tooth it was as he started the drill asking the assistant " tooth 30?? 31??" After drilling my tooth down to almost nothing for the crown he placed my crown then to only find, I needed a root canal after maxing out my benefits for the year I had to pay $1,000.00 + out of pocket. The next day I had horrible pain in my gums he looked and said " oh, do you have diabetes or a comprised immune system,(no I'm a healthy young women) your gum has clapsed and you need to see an oral surgeon I went to the oral surgeon he wrote me a prescription for Vicodin and some expired mouth wash and said it would be another $1,000.00 because he was going to sand down my gums. so I scheduled an appointment with the oral surgeon while being in pain not being able to eat I had two-shards of teeth ( spicuals that came out of my gums) and the pain was gone?? I didn't need the oral surgeon after all. Dr.Loupur maybe a cosmetic dentist but when it comes to general dentistry I wouldn't recommend him. I now have to pay$4,000.00 to get an implant because my crowns fallen of three time and has decay. So let's just say tooth 31 has a name now I named it "expensive ". read more

I went to Dr. LoPour for an urgent dental event - won't torture you with the details, but he was able to see me right away and took care of what was happening right there and then. I knew it was going to be good when I spoke with the admin staff on the phone. They were so nice and made me feel like I was among friends. The office itself is easy to get to, plenty of parking. Inside it is very warm and comfortable. The assistants knew their stuff, and explain things as they go so you don't feel like things are happening to you that you have no control over. Dr. LoPour is a very nice man, and I can see why he has so many stars on Yelp. He even gave me his cell phone to call him in case I had a complication, and he called me that night to see how I was doing. I'm a big baby when it comes to going to the dentist (even though I do it every six months and so should you!), and I've been going back to my dentist in Austin, Texas because I just didn't want the trauma of finding a new one here in ABQ.
