I took my toddler here for their first visit based on the great reviews I saw on this site. She had seen a dentist before but was still nervous about a trip to the dentist, but felt better once she was in their office - very fun and kid-friendly with toys and books - and a welcoming staff! They are phenomenal with young children! Dr. Coulter came highly recommended by my regular dentist - Dr. Martin of Blake Dental. My family loved everyone from the receptionists, to Leanne to Dr. Coulter. They had excellent bedside manners. They were patient, friendly and all very knowledgeable. I also liked that Dr. Coulter was conservative in his approach to treatment. He did not opt for the most expensive and invasive method, but rather the one that made my 4 year old the most comfortable. I'm a big fan and will recommend any chance I can. read more

Hands down the best dental practice for kids. Both of my kids (5 & 3) actually look forward to going to the dentist. (& they have Pac-Man so my husband does, too.) Dr. Charlie & Dr. Jerry are both amazing, the staff explains every step to the kids, and they make the whole experience so incredibly fun. Unfortunately, we've needed emergency/after hours support for our little guy (2 times now). Both times the on-call dentist/hygienist provided amazing care and support. My 21 month old went for her first dental appointment today. I'll tell you right off the bat, my daughter hates doctors, nurses, receptionists...anyone who looks like they might have a needle or stethoscope. She's also figured out that a bunch of toys and board books near waiting room chairs means a doctor is near. Imagine my shock when she basically disowned me to play with all of the toys in the waiting area, spoke to the dental technician and smiled while donning their Barbie sunglasses during the visit. Dr. Dana came in and she was extremely friendly and engaging with my daughter despite her being well below the recommended 2.5 years old for a first visit. I won't lie and say my daughter was happy when the actual exam began but I'm impressed at how Dr. Dana handled the situation. We did the knee-to-knee method where my daughter sat in my lap facing me and then we reclined her back so that her head was in Dr. Dana's lap. She was gentle, found a method to actually open her mouth so that she could see her teeth without hurting her (a technique I've already stolen to brush her teeth tonight) and at one point (right hand to God) my daughter stopped crying and just let her finish. She even told her goodbye when she left the room. That's up there with walking on water as far as I'm concerned. She was very detailed in explaining what was going on with my daughter's teeth, making recommendations for treating a bit of tooth decay and not at all condescending or hurried in her visit. I really wish this woman saw adults. They don't take insurance so that kinda sucks, but considering the experience and level of care, it was worth every penny. The dental tech even walked us to a wardrobe chest full of take home toys. My daughter stacked up on stickers, rings, a little toy bus and some "Dr Dana Loves Me" stickers. Not bad. read more

Drs. Dana & Charlie have treated my two sons for more than 15 years. They clearly love kids! The treatment area is bright and cheery; everything is child-sized, and patients get sunglasses to keep the bright lights out of their eyes. I still remember Dr. Dana letting my toddler son use the irrigator to squirt a target. My guys always liked going to the dentist. I would defiantly NOT recommend DR Greenwald. her practice is very busy and impersonal. its so busy that the dental tech meet you and your child with a mask still on their face which would be very scary for small children. however the worse part about the practice is that Dr Greenwald who give you no more than 10 min on her time missed a cavity on my son's tooth. so 7 and half months later when i went back for a cleaning, his cavity had become so large that we now had a dental emergency on our hands. we were heading out of town and the tooth had to get fixed before we left, we ended up meeting a specialist and she had to squeeze us in, we had never met her before my son totally freak out. we had no time to ease him in to the solution. all because Dr Greenwald had missed his cavity during a regular check up. she is way to expensive and does not do a good job. Wish there were pediatric dentists like this one when I was growing up. My kids have gone there for 10 years. At first dr dana was a solo practioner; now she works with dr Charlie and dr Hillary who are equally caring. We know a lot of neighborhood folks whose pictures are also on the walls. It is a busy practice and although you can't expect a walk in appt for a cleaning, if your child has an issue they will fit you in. Frankly if a dentist has a wide open schedule id infer that's a bad sign ! Lastly, dr dana has given back to the community big time--she's donated many services to those in need as well as to multiple schools' fundraising efforts. read more

Seriously, this practice is amazing and I rave about it whenever I get the chance. We went through 3 dentists before we found this practice. My daughter has problem teeth and every other dentist has made me feel like a horrible mom. From the start Dr. Greenwald offered a holistic diagnosis to her problem. Assured me it wasn't my fault and suggested a very conservative treatment plan. Other dentists suggested that we extract my 2 year old daughters teeth! At 4 years old, under your care, her teeth are still intact and everything is going well. Previously, my daughter would panic when she saw other dentist. She is actually excited about going here. I've never seen anything like it. They are like magical with children and I have a very high strung, anxious child. I also have to complement the front desk staff. They are courteous and professional - a rarity these days. We are always called back almost exactly at our appointment time. You guys are amazing!!! read more

I really had no idea how this first appointment for my daughter would go (turned 3 two days ago), but the office is very kid-friendly decked out in Halloween decorations in late October, and the hygenist, Angie, did a great job winning over the trust of my daughter from the onset by explaining the whole exam and cleaning and gently testing out the dental utensils on my daughter's fingers so she could experience what was coming. When it came time to open up, she opened wide, and was happy and super cooperative throughout! Getting to pick out her own toothpaste, with chocolate as an option was key, and the promise of a prize, a sticker and a piece of chocolate at the end were also very motivational. It doesn't get much better than this practice when it comes to pediatric dentistry. We have been coming to see Dr Greenwald for at least 12 years for treatment of our 3 boys. Our boys always enjoy coming here and they are treated with great care and expertise. Also, any dental care instruction provided by Dr Dana and crew is held in high regard and my boys follow closely with an aim to please the doctor at the next visit. My countless questions are always fully addressed and since there can be variations in approach toward dentistry, I always feel fully comfortable understanding our options, various approaches that could potentially be taken, and why/how other approaches may or may not be recommended. We recently had to bring our 10 yr old to see Dr Dana for an emergency visit; we were fit in within 2 hours which is miraculous. Everyone involved was extremely caring, thoughtful, and reassuring toward my son as several theories for the cause of my son's dental pain were discussed. We understood and agreed with the suggested theory and the proposed treatment. This is the third time I've taken a child to see Dr Dana for evaluation of a dentally-related injury or illness - and each visit was consistent in how we were accommodated immediately, compassionately, and completely until our concerns are fully addressed. We are forever loyal to this amazing practice of caring and talented people! read more

Our appointment started out fine. The practice itself is nice and definitely caters to children, everyone seemed professional. The dental hygienist did a great job with our 3 year old. She talked him through the entire teeth cleaning process and showed him all the tools she would be using and was very patient with him. Once she finished, our appointment turned into a bit of a nightmare. First, we sat in the room after the teeth cleaning for 20 minutes while we waited for Dr. Dana Greenwald, a long time for anyone to wait, but especially a 3 year old. When Dr. Greenwald did come into the room she was way over the top. The way she spoke to my 3 year old was overall very bizarre, like he's not a person. Once she started looking into his mouth for the exam she was still acting very bizarre and over the top. She then proceeded to drum on our child's front teeth with the cleaning pick which really upset our son. When he started crying Dr. Greenwald suggested we pin him down and continue the exam rather then take time to attempt to calm him. When we questioned that approach she grew aggressive and then dismissive. She proceeded to tell us that our son had to learn that he can't just get up during the examination for safety reasons. If someone drummed on my teeth with a tool like that I would have gotten up too. At that point we were very uncomfortable and decided to leave. Around 15 minutes after we left we got a call from someone at the practice who informed us that we would need to come back to have the exam completed (for our son's school form) but that if there were "personality issues" we could schedule with another dentist at the practice other than Dr. Greenwald. My girl always likes going to the dentist office. For her, a dental visit is like the kiddy spa. From the first minute that we step into the office; the entire reception staff is welcoming, smiling dental technologist and friendly practice staff makes her feel like a princess until she walks out smiling goodbye with freshly polished nails. Keep up with the great work, and your office will have a little patience for life or at lease until she ages out of the pediatric dental phase. This dental practice is top notch! They create a fun environment that is caring but light-hearted, which helps relieve any nervousness for the kids. There are toys in the waiting room -- and a nice selection of teas and coffee for the parents! My six year old loves the playful atmosphere. Dr. Charlie is helpful, encouraging, patient, and kind. The staff could not be more pleasant and accommodating. I get the sense that everyone likes their jobs there, which is a refreshing feeling -- and somewhat unusual in Washington, DC! Dr. Dana and Dr. Charlie put all four of my children at ease (which is mighty high praise, considering how anxious they sometimes get about their teeth). Each child is given time to ask questions and communicate their worries, and all the care providers are kind, receptive, and willing to help the children have a sense of agency about their own health. Dr. Greenwald was one of the rudest medical practitioners that I have ever met in my life. We were scheduled to have her do the third part of a planned treatment on our five-year old. Her assistant said that my wife could not accompany our five-year old son in the room and said that we would have to come in again. Apparently, a visit just to "establish rapport" was needed, she said. We said that this was unacceptable as this was the third of three scheduled appointments and the assistant simply came out and told us that Dr. Greenwald would not see us and please leave. Its the craziest thing ever. We were there for the third of three treatments (the previous two were done by Dr. Hillary Weiss....whom both my wife and I would recommend in a millisecond). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DR. GREENWALD OR HER PRACTICE TO ANYONE BUT MY WORST ENEMIES. IT WAS TRULY A BIZARRE AND TERRIBLY UPSETTING EXPERIENCE. NEVER AGAIN. My wife and I are thinking about reporting her to the Board. read more

I can't believe anyone would have anything but a 5 star response to Dr. Dana. Her practice is very well run, her hygenists are gifted with the children, and she loves her work and the kids. The environment makes it fun for kids - great goody bag, manicure for the little girls, games in the waiting room, fun sunglasses to wear while getting your teeth cleaned. Dr. Dana had 50th bday party and invited all her patients. She is so personable and a great dentist. My kids love going and get excellent pain-free care when they go. My kids ask to go more than twice a year! We've always gone for standard cleanings, but had a three tooth extraction yesterday because my daughter's baby teeth just wouldn't fall out. They took the time to explain everything to our 3 year-old before the exam started so he was completely prepared, and they did a fabulous job of explaining it so a 3 year-old could understand. Dr. Dana Greenwald has been treating our son since he was about 5 years old and for the last 12 years she has done a great job taking care of his teeth. The office has excellent hygienists who are willing to discuss all aspects of our son's teeth while they are cleaning them. The hygienists are very knowledgeable, friendly, and they certainly know how to interact with children. Dr. Greenwald has always done an excellent job examining our son's teeth and giving us very good advice. We plan to have our son go to her office for a long as they treat young adults. Dr. Greenwald always shows that she truly cares about her patients. It is a pleasure to go to her dental office. The front desk staff is very friendly and efficient. I wish I'd had a dentist like that when I was a kid. My kids LOVE going to Dr. Dana. Really, when you tell your kids it's time to go to the dentist, and they say "YAY!!!" - what more can you ask for?! And yes, part of the enthusiasm is linked to them getting their nails painted while there. My husband and I could not believe how great Angie and Dr. Charlie were with my 2 year old son. Angie went through every single thing that would happen with all the equipment, and I would say he even ENJOYED his cleaning. Dr. Charlie recommended that we let our son brush his teeth at night and then let one of us take a turn, and each night when we do that, he says, "Angie and Dr. Charlie will be so happy!" and we went to them months ago:-). read more

Clean, fun setting for kids (and adults!); I honestly don't think we have ever had to wait for our appointment, in fact we usually start early; staff are friendly, efficient, super helpful and attentive; and Dana and Charlie treat my special needs son as if he were their own. Yesterday was another great dentist visit for our daughter. She used to need 2 assistants and the dentist to hold her down for a routine check up and she is tiny!!! But her first visit to Dr. Greenwald was the complete opposite! The staff made her feel so comfortable. They offered her books, and then they did her nails, and talked to her about the procedure which made her calm down during her check up and cleaning. We felt so relieved to find THE BEST dentist for our daughter. After 4 years, she still looks forward to every visit and they've always made her feel comfortable and safe. My kids have been going to Dr. Dana for over ten years and are close to aging out of "Pediatric" dentistry, but none of us wants to have them go elsewhere. In fact, I wish Dr. Dana would consider branching out into "young adult" or even "mid-life mom" dentistry. Dr. Charlie also has a great demeanor so both make going to the dentist enjoyable -- or at least, eminently bearable -- for kids and parents alike. I wish I were young enough for Dr. Dana to take care of my teeth. From a kids perspective, the fun starts in the colorful, toy and book filled waiting room, continues as you are escorted by the hygienist into the brightly colored and light filled dental area. As the kids walk thru the hallway, they see poster boards filled with pictures and thank you notes from other children and my kids even noticed several of their friends photos. It made my kids feel good to know that their dentist is also that of their friends. Lots of other kids are getting their teeth cared for, none are squirming or screaming, many are giggling as Dr. Dana jokes as she does her job of keeping the little teeth healthy and clean. The hygienists are gentle and kind with lots of smiles and a tray full of funky glasses for the kids to choose and wear to keep the light out of their eyes. The whole procedure is over quickly. After the cleaning, Dr. Dana spends time to get to know the kids while she is checking their mouth to make sure all is ok. She makes the kids feel special by remembering where the kids all go to school, who their friends are and what there favorite hobby or snack is. She makes them giggle by squirting their brother, sister or neighboring patient with a little water or making Mr. Slurpy (the suction straw) make a silly noise. She is always joking to lighten the experience up. She reminds parents to lay off the gummy vitamins or treats. Once i heard her discuss a possible dental problem with a parent and it was done gently, kindly and with genuine compassion for concern that the outcome will be ok in the long run. When the whole dental cleaning is done, the kids get to choose a treat from the big goofy cabinet in the corner. It reminded me of Pee Wee's playhouse furniture, and I expected the cabinet to blurt out some unexpected silliness, but it did not (my only disappointment in the whole experience truly). The kids get one toy and one sticker and girls are treated to a manicure by the sweet and artistic hygienists. In the end, my kids are excited for their next trip back to Dr. Dana's office 6 months from now. Now, if only I could get Dr. Dana to give my dentist some pointers. . . . just kidding. read more

Dr. Hilary is an INCREDIBLE dentist! She helped my family through what could have been a very traumatic experience with my 2 year old. She and her staff are caring and concerned and make you feel as if you are the only patient they are seeing. The environment is family and child friendly. There are toys and books and the rooms are bright and colorful- all important for children (doesn't hurt for adults either!) We've been seeing Dr. Dana for the last 5+ years. Our kids literally get excited about trips to the dentist! We love her caring and conservative approach. Our middle child sucked her thumb until around age 5/6 and we really appreciated Dr. Dana's relatively hands-off approach to it (meaning she didn't make a big deal out of it as a 'problem' and our child stopped on her own without feeling embarrassed or ashamed). My daughter has been a patient for 7 years and I can't say enough great things about Dr. Dana and Dr. Charlie. We started out with Dr. Dana (she is amazing and wonderful with the kids) and have also seen Dr. Charlie recently(He is equally as great and engaging with the kids). My daughter was a thumb sucker. Dr. Dana gave us great advice- leave it alone until you need to deal with it. When it came time for intro orthodontics, Dr. Dana suggested a device to help with the thumb sucking and worked with our orthodontist to get the right device in place. We were just in there yesterday and Dr. Dana was so terrific! She made my daughter feel great about conquering her habit and also getting through the tough expander phase. It was so nice to see! We love going to her and Dr. Charlie- their practice is amazing and as many parents have said, "I wish there was a pediatric dentist like their practice when I was a child." read more

Dr Dana and Dr Charlie are the best pediatric dentists ever! I had incredible dentists as a child, and I wanted my daughter to have the same experience, so we went to Dr Dana and Dr Charlie's office after much searching. They are absolutely wonderful! Everyone in the office is so warm and top notch at what they do, and it's clear that they are there for the children. My daughter tends to be very resistant and gets upset very easily in doctor offices, but it really helped that they do what's called a "happy visit" for the first visit, and then for her second visit, the hygienist and assistant were able to put her at ease within seconds. The hygienist in particular -- and I am totally blanking on her name -- is really gifted; by the end of her first full cleaning, my 3yo daughter was smiling from ear to ear at this hygienist and she does NOT do that for everyone! Have found both Dr. Dana and Dr. Charlie to be awesome, too! read more
