Food was hot and cooked to order. The breading on the fried appetizers could have had a bit more seasoning but it was ok. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy. They were out of green beans but the okra was good. Server was super sweet and it was late on a Thursday so it was not busy. This is definitely off the beaten path. In Polk City FL. We had a dinner that was as good as any we have cooked at home. I had the Southern Dinner--a boneless chicken breast fried with a light crispy coating, topped with white pepper gravy, mashed potatoes topped with that same delicious gravy and green beans. My hubby had hamburger steak topped with grilled onions and brown gravy , mashed potatoes and Lima beans on the side. And corn muffins. Everything was really good. I did not personally care for the green beans but my hubby said they just needed a little salt. Overall a really good dinner and very reasonable prices. The staff was friendly. Our server was prompt and efficient and the cook came out of the kitchen to check on folks eating. The dining room was neat and clean. I would stop here again ! read more

This little gem was found by accident when I was at a women's retreat on Lake Gilead recently. We were needing to eat dinner because dinner was not provided at the retreat that first night and we just happened upon this sweet little diner. To say the food was good as a total understatement. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was unbelievable. We were too full to eat dessert but they sure sounded good. We will definitely go here next years retreat. read more

Country Angels was one of my favorite places to visit whenever I drove out to visit my brother who lives in the area. It's under new management and a lot of the changes new management has made were not for the better. They eliminated food items from the menu, such as their Cuban sandwich and tater tots, two of my favorite menu items. They also altered the recipe and significantly changed the taste of popular food items making them less appetizing. One of my favorite things on the menu was a fried pickles. They had the most delicious batter that I've ever tasted. Unfortunately the new management has completely changed the batter to something that's unrecognizable. I would describe the new batter as edible. I ordered the Cuban, but unfortunately, the new management had taken it off the menu. This is always my favorite sandwiches whenever I came to country Angels and I had always been under the impression that it was a very popular menu item. They made Cubans better than anybody I knew. So I looked in the menu and decided to get the mac & cheese topped with meat and bacon. I psyched myself up for the new meal choice only to be told by the waitress they were out. So I told her let's just go with the burger and fries. She came back to the table to tell me they didn't have any french fries. I ended up getting hashbrowns with my burger. I wasn't thrilled traditionally I love fries with my burger. Overall, the quality of the food has gone down at least in my opinion, but maybe it's just so different from what I'm used to that I haven't gotten use to the new flavors. Although eliminating popular items from the menu is 100% new management's decision. In all fairness, the hamburger that I ordered was delicious but it would've been so much better with french fries than hash browns. Country angels was always a place that I would ask my brother to take me to when I visited him, but now it looks like I'll be looking for a new restaurant. read more

Food and service were so good the first night that we went back again the next night for dinner. Burgers, chicken fried steak and pizza were all delicious. Very busy but servers were great. It doesn't look like much when you walk in but don't let that stop you. Not many parking spaces, we got lucky but you may need to park next door and walk over. read more

Bought a BLFGT - bacon / lettuce and fried green tomato sandwich. However - it was a fried red tomato and well red tomatoes aren't meant to be fried so it was extremely soggy and gross. Bacon is the precooked microwaved kind. Sauce is good but got a kick. Bout the only good thing was the bread My partner got the Cuban. It's all cold cuts like from the deli and then hot pressed . We have passed this place more times that I care to count. Today we made a point of stoping for lunch. What a great choice! I had the chef salad which was huge and fresh! Saved my life the past month since my husband passed away - I didn't even feel like eating, but going in and sitting down in the friendly country kitchen atmosphere - and the beautiful ladies that serve you, and the cooks putting out good stuff-- and the locals all make you feel comfortable. They make their food in big plastic containers (bins) and let it sit for weeks and the spaghetti they serve sits in ice water until it's thrown into microwave and served. Stopped by for lunch today on my way back to Tampa from Orlando. This place is not far off of I-4 and the "Fantasy of Flight." The place looks rundown from the outside but nicer on the inside. Every time I have ordered from this place they forget something or do what I kindly request and pay for (extra sauces). The lack of salt and over all seasoning of their food is non-existent. Just got the country deluxe burger.... more like country desucks burger. Mushrooms were watery, my whole burger was soggy and wet and I live 30 seconds from the place. Fries dont have any seasoning whatsoever. Its so sub par. I guess if you like staying in the budget.... but dont expect anything good. Definitely country casual. When yo drive up it doesn't look very inviting but if your into that out of the way hole in the wall place with good food, this is that place. What a great find. Went with a couple of friends. So when you don't know what to order, order the days special. I had the catfish fingers with coleslaw and garlic toast. Let me just say that the catfish was fresh and cooked just as it should be. Prices were reasonable and the service was good.
