Food was ok but service was definitely lacking. We order via Uber Eats and thought that would mean quick pick up. Although the app alerted us that the food was ready, we waited for like 10 minutes off to the side. It's a very small store and we were very clearly waiting for pickup. The staff just ignored us until I finally got one's attention to ask if there was an Uber Eats order for pick up. It then appeared like they just started making it. All the while ~15 customer ordered and got their food in the time we were standing there. Total time spent was around 15 mins. Had we just order there it would have likely been less than 5. I think that some people are mixing up the two Country Bagel locations! There is one on Gay Street and one in the Parkway Shopping Center. I have been to both locations multiple times and I can tell the difference between the two when people are writing reviews. I know for sure that I am writing this 5 star review for Country Bagel on Gay Street. The bagels are made fresh DAILY, so whoever wrote the review stating the bagels "tasted frozen" and "must be from the local Walmart" is clearly mistaken. Also, their other bakery items are very fresh and very delish. Highly recommend all bakery items. Their menu is very versatile and there's something for everyone. Good bagel place in West Chester. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday morning and there was a line of people waiting to order. There is no indoor seating here, so just be aware of that. The inside was on the smaller side. You can get a 4% discount if you pay with cash. The bagels we got were good, not out of this world though. It was reasonably priced for what you get. In my opinion, it could have had a bit more flavor. I also got a lemon pound cake loaf and was expecting it to be more lemony than it actually was. Love this local bagel shop, super great bagels themselves but wish they would rework the way they take orders. You get in line, someone takes your order, sometimes you pay right then and other times you wait to the side for them to make the order and then you pay. It's not a big space so when it's crowded it's hard to navigate when people behind you already paid but you haven't. Most bagel shops I've been to someone is a cashier taking orders and the other is making the actual orders. Makes for a way better customer experience! Just a thought! My husband bought several corn and blueberry muffins here about a week ago, ate one and put the rest in the freezer. This evening my son thawed out one of the corn muffins and saw something black on the outside of the muffin. Then he saw legs -- it was a fly, partially baked into the muffin. It was a lovely Sunday morning and I was craving some bagels for breakfast. I was over at Lion's place in Frazer, so I consulted my handy dandy Yelp app, with it's added bonus of providing a link to directions. Yay! Country Bagel came up so I loaded directions and headed out. Being a Sunday morning, I had no problems with street parking in downtown West Chester. I popped a quarter into the meter and headed in. This is a corner store, with two entrances, I entered on Gay Street. It's not a big place but it's laid out well, it's clearly pickup, there's on small table for anyone to dine in. There were a couple of refrigerated cases that held a variety of juices and sodas, even chocolate and regular milk in individual servings. Nicely done. One of the cases is dedicated to small tubs of spreadable cream cheeses - a good variety and quantity. I picked up the 'plain' cream cheese. Later spreading it on a toasted bagel it was creamy and smooth. The bakery sells more than bagels, there's also a decent selection of various pastries and cookies. Behind the counter were the bagels, and they had a good variety - plain, egg, garlic, poppy seed, pumpernickel, etc. I picked up some egg bagels and some whole wheat, some coffee and the cream cheese. At home we dug in. The egg bagels were...underwhelming. They're large, and they've got the chewiness but there was also some, well, puffiness, they were chewy but not really dense, which was odd. OK, I'm not a bagel purist. The disappointing part was the lack of flavor, they were quite bland, even with butter the flavor that comes through is the butter or the cream cheese. The bagels themselves added nothing. The wheat were a bit better, however still that odd cake-and-chewy combo. The location is clean and had wonderful bakery smells, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a Sunday, and it was during the holidays, so maybe this was not their best. I have a feeling that the relative consistency and taste profile would make them very good sandwich bases, so maybe we'll get those sometimes. I'm not sure though that I would make a special trip to go to pick up bagels there, though. I'm a little sad about that. read more

They charge $4.25 for their "gourmet cream cheeses" and the last 3 times I've went, I paid for a bagel with "gourmet cream cheese" and got plain cream cheese. there's a price difference. there was only one other customer in there so it's not like it was busy. The teenagers working the counter are not equipped to enforce social distancing rules and it's not their fault, a manager really should be present to keep things under control. Someone came in the wrong door and was allowed to jump the line and just order. He was filthy and was just hanging all over the counter. I got the wrong muffin twice before I got the right muffin. I work in customer service and even I was having a rough time keeping my cool. I don't know what kind of bagel my sandwich came on but it's not the right bagel. Checked this place out while visiting family in West Chester, and I was honestly underwhelmed. The bagels my sister and I got felt weirdly flat and underproofed--no super distinct crusty outside, nor no soft middle. the jalapeño cream cheese on mine was on the bland side. I'm not horrified by microwaved eggs in the same way some of the other reviewers are, but it doesn't make a great case either. While I feel like the bagels themselves are only just a step above your run of the mill Dublin Donuts bagel, I do commend Country Bagel for their wide selection and quick service, though... although the donuts we got were just ok and, again, bland. This place is really bad. We were in a rush to grab something quickly and overlooked the appearance. The waitresses were very slow. We ordered breakfast sandwiches on bagels. The bagels were decent but I think they microwaved the eggs. I can go to Dunkin Donuts if I want microwaved eggs. Maybe they get away with the greasy look and service because they are so close to West Chester University and figure that students don't know any better. We do and won't be returning. read more

I've been going to country bagel since I was little. I love everything about it. However the past few times here the customer service was horrible. The girl behind the counter was rude in every way possible. She was completely miserable and took it out on everyone. This has happened multiple times. I get that it's busy and there's a lot going on. It wouldn't have mattered but she was so miserable- makes me not want to go back. I felt bad for the other girl she was training- she had more common sense and knows how to treat people. She needs an attitude check or a new job or just get some manners. I don't want to have to deal with this when I'm just trying to get some breakfast like come on. It's sad this poor service has to reflect on this great company. Just moved into town from Nyc and am happy to report that this place makes some damn good bagels. Not exactly the same as a NY bagel (these are more bready and fluffy, less dense and doughy than in NY) but tasty! I laughed at the review complaining about the microwaved eggs. Honestly, what deli/bodega have you ever been to that fried a legit egg for your breakfast bagel? It's Country Bagel, not "Bourgeois Bagel". LOL. The miked eggs are delicious and grease-free. Many many kudos to the kids working here. They always seem to be working hard, cleaning and keeping things tidy, even when the place is empty. I've stopped in several times just as they're getting ready to close and they haven't been annoyed with me at all, even when I've been annoyed with myself for getting breakfast at 2:45. I'm sure they deserve more tips than they actually get! I'm only docking a star because I wish they were open later! read more

Having to be at work at 7, I usually roll out of bed at 6:28. I know that if I run a comb through the shambles of my hair and brush the teeth in x-amount of minutes, I will have time to stop for breakfast and still arrive at my office in a flurry at 7:00 precisely. Now, where to stop: few establishments in the borough of West Chester are open before 7AM. There's a Starbucks, a Dunkin Donuts, Country Bagel, and a Wawa. Wawa is altogether too busy for me to run in and out at breakneck speed; Starbucks bagels taste like the dough was mixed with glue, and Dunkin Donuts...no. That leaves Country Bagel, which is always calm and quick with my order. They boast from-scratch-made bagels, and they're not too shabby. Not excellent, but good enough...there's a very nice selection, and an impressive array of specialty cream cheeses. I had an apple-cinnamon bagel topped with pumpkin cream cheese and it was like taking a bite outta autumn*. I appreciate that they slather a whole bunch of cream cheese over the bagel, instead of leaving only a thin film of CC on one side (shoddy) or even worse, slipping in a dinky packet of cream cheese for you to spread a thin film on yourself (insulting). Their coffee is okay. More potable than the bilge-water masquerading as coffee served up at my office. They sadly don't have an expresso machine. They also have breakfast sandwich offerings, including one .99 cent one which is a pretty good buy, and satisfying enough. Their pastries and muffins are okay, not great. A little dry. Still the most preferable pre-7:00 am quickstop option in all of West Chester. 3.5 stars. *pumpkin cream cheese is seasonal, but they have a -lot- of other specialty spreads to choose from. read more
