Such a solid and unassuming shop!! I just happened to come in here with a friend a few times, and then quickly realized it was a staple. The bagels are exactly how bagels should be! I have not had a bad experience service wise, either. Depending on the day and time, it's of course on the crowded side sometimes, but never any unreasonable waits. Perfect for a bagel on its own or as a sandwich. I haven't come past breakfast to try some of the more deli-type sandwiches, but I have full faith in them! read more

Based on other reviews I decided to check out this place while in Media to run an errand. A lot of yummy menu options. Professional, friendly folks at the counter. Decent coffee. Stumbled across this hole in the wall shop when walking through the area & it was so good we doubled back! We'll DEFINITELY be back! The vibe: A lil run down but you feel at home. Sweet staff, fast service, & they've got some small tables both inside or out front. The food: We ordered a bacon egg & cheese on everything bagel and an egg & cheese on everything bagel both days. Each time it was 5 stars across the board! The bagel was seasoned & baked to perfection! Thick, chewy, & firm enough to not fall apart. The egg was buttery & the cheese was gooey. Welcoming small town store front. Local art along the walls. Heard one of the workers say they had been at work since 4 making the delicious bagels from scratch. That kind of dedication to the job is all I needed to hear. The food reflects the work ethic. My husband used to work in Media and loved to get breakfast or lunch from Custom Bagels. When we recently found ourselves in the area at lunchtime, he suggested we go. He loves their fresh-baked breads and "special" sandwiches. I got a pumpernickel lox bagel, and it was good. After consuming my sandwich I wasn't quite sure what all his fuss was about - I've made bagel sandwiches just as good at home. I will chalk that up to just not getting the "right" thing that would showcase all Custom Bagels has to offer. If you asked him, he'd give them 4.5 stars. This is the best bagel shop in Delaware County and maybe all of Philadelphia. The bagels are chewy and delicious. The sandwiches are made with fresh ingredients and they are abundant and tasty. Their bagels are great.. when you catch them open Multiple times I've come when their hours say they are open and they're already closed. I showed up today, a Saturday where it says they close at 1pm. It's 11:50 and they're completely closed and gone. I called very last minute needing trays for a funeral luncheon. Not only were they able to accommodate my request, they did a beautiful job. Everyone raved about the food. One person even said they were going to go for breakfast the next day. The chicken salad was the best I've ever had. The cookies were incredible. The bread and bagels were perfect and delicious. They were so helpful on the phone with figuring out how much to order, and helped me load everything into my car. I truly can't say enough good things about custom bagel. Hands down the best bagels outside of New York. My only reason for not 5-star is twofold: First, their lack of soy or non-dairy products for those of us who are completely lactose intolerant. As well, their juices are Minute Maid by Coca Cola which are 90% high fructose corn syrup, which in my book is akin to drinking rat poison. Please ditch these! We went there for breakfast and even chatted with the owner. My partner's daughter had recommended it as one of her high school teachers had cinnamon sugar bagels specially made for the class. I finally found it. Finally, I have a bagel place that is truly worthy to replace the departed Bagel Bin in my heart. These bagels are close to NY style. The bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel I had today was so good, I pretty much ignored the outside world as I ate it. And on top of that, they had a coffee that was called a Sweetheart blend. I stop in here a few times a week for breakfast/lunch. Even though their name is "custom bagels", their lunch menu beats the breakfast by a long shot. Breakfast is okay. Lunch is AMAZING. Almost twenty years ago, the best bagel you could get in Media was a "restaurant style" Lender's bagel from the Market Cart. But gone is the Market Cart and gone is the need to find breakfast in a freezer case. Custom Bagels are simply the best bagels in Media. Now, that doesn't say much since Media only has one bagel place (we will not include Manhattan Bagels as that is technically not in the borough.) So to explain how really good they are...let's just say that a stale Custom Bagel is probably better than someone else's fresh bagel. They are kettle boiled, made fresh each day and offer seasonal flavors as well as the tried and true classics. Featuring Boar's Head meats and cheeses and an array of homemade sides, salads and more, the space is small and full. You can eat in (or outside in good weather) but most choose to take their goodies home. A favorite: Custom Bagel bagel dog. There is nothing like it. If you have been fooled into thinking that Auntie Anne's or Pretzel Boy's has a unique snack, a pretzel dog, you have had the dough pulled over your eyes. There is not much better than a bagel dog. As funny looking at it is, once you sink your teeth into it, you can't help but eat the entire thing... I recommend the spicy mustard. I have had requests to bring them as far as Boston to friends who, having only visited once or twice, can't forget about their bagel dog experience in Media. Beware, they are closed on Sunday. Custom bagels is one of the best under-rated breakfast places in Media. Their breakfast sandwiches are even comparable to the garbage down at Manhattan bagel - this place is legit. They LOAD up the sandwiches with eggs, and they also have some great bagel flavors there (the tomato basil is awesome!). Additionally, it's the LUNCH sandwiches that really get me! So I used to go to Custom Bagels almost everyday during my work week and get the same exact thing each time. I finally realized that depending on who rings you up, you'll get charged differently for your meal. It was literally ranging from a few cents to dollar differences each time. Think about going there almost 5 days a week, and paying ranges of differences, you're getting screwed out of a lot of money. For all of the things Philly does well when it comes to cuisine, it is damn near impossible to find a good bagel here. Sure, we're less than 2 hours away from the bagel mecca of the world, New York, but we might as well be in the dessert when it comes to the enigmatic, doughy, indescribably delicious delicacy which seems to be restricted to the 5 boroughs. The shop itself is modest by any standards, not even residing on the main strip of beautiful downtown Media. Once inside, the bagels are resting in peach baskets attached to the wall. My favorites are the pumpernickel and rye. My goodness, they are heaven. I recently got a pumpernickel bagel from Whole Foods a few days after having Custom Bagels- it was a sad, pathetic imitation. What makes them so delicious? I really dont know, to be honest. They just ARE. Maybe it is the water, maybe it is the flour, maybe the it is the magic dust sprinkled into every batch. These are by far the best bagels in Southern Delaware County -- an area dominated by chain bagel stores that are really sandwich joints masquerading as authentic bagel stores. The quality of the bagels rival those at http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-york-bagel-bakery-philadelphia-2. There is limited seating, including some modest yet functional chairs and tables along the store front under the awning. Aside from their baked goods, they also have a really nice selection of entrees, including pasta, egg and tuna salads. Their fruit salad is very nice too -- comprised of a nice mixture of ripe, seasonal berries and melons. I was buzzing through the area and have been dying for a lox bagel sammich, so I stopped in here. I ordered the lox bagel (with onions and cream cheese) on a wheat everything bagel. I forgot to ask for it to be toasted, so that's my own fault. The girls behind the counter were super nice and got my order together quickly. I can't sing the praises of their everything bagel enough. It was perfectly chewy, just salty enough, and I now dream of it every morning. If I lived down the street, I'd probably turn into a bagel. Bagels here are outstanding, just as good as in the big city. Great variety. You can get it with egg, cheese, bacon/sausage/porkroll and they make the egg fresh in the back, not that freezer drawer crap or PWE.
