I thought, "How does McDonald's stay in business with competition like that?" So, I ordered the special, and was told by the staff that it was a family-owned restaurant, another good sign. The first thing I noticed was the roll. You cannot have a good cheesesteak without steak and cheese - everyone knows that. But what most people outside of the Philadelphia area seem to forget is that it is a sandwich, and as such, the quality and type of bread or roll plays a major role (pun intended) in the dining experience. The roll was fresh, and flavorful. I was told that it came from a bakery multiple times a week to ensure quality and freshness. The meat, cheese and peppers were generous, and expertly prepared. It was delicious. However, just as good as the sandwich were the fries. They were perfectly cut, seasoned, and fried. Not greasy, not dry. Perfect. I could make a meal out of the fries alone! And of course, no matter the meal, if the hosts are not amiable, and helpful, the experience will be disappointing. The owner, staff and even my fellow diners were to a soul extremely friendly. It was like having a family meal, in a town I never visited before. I might just have to take another hour and a half drive. I think that I hear a Pizza Steak calling my name.

The waitress was attentive and offered to refill our beverages (my ice water and my friend's sweet tea) many times and checked on us as well. The fish was succulent, fried to perfection, flavorful and moist and served with at least four, and more likely 6 ounces of tartar sauce that didn't skimp on the diced pickles. Two lemon slices (one for the ice water, one for the fish) accompanied my meal. The meal left me feeling full, satisfied and satiated and I wont hesitate to return again in the near future. A pauper could dine like a prince at Frank's Diner! The diner itself is tastefully appointed and was not overly loud, despite being at above 50% capacity. Wood paneling with painted white wall board with some interesting décor added to the experience. We left our charming waitress a generous tip in line with the excellent service. This is one of the best restaurants in the charming small town of Culpeper and I would encourage everyone to try it.
