The location is convenient but the food is average and the guy working the window is not thrilled to be there. If you want cheese on your burger, make sure to ask for it. Food (burgers) is OK but nothing special. Thsy are made to order. Takes about 10 minutes and outdoor tables were nice. Shake was good. Wings were the pizza oven type and not that good. Really wanted a hot dog. Walked in and customer said to us that he hope the kid behind the counter was nicer to us than he was to him. The kid was very rude and very clearly did not want to be there. We found this restaurant on way to the National Park. The restaurant does not have place to sit, carry out only. The food is made to order so take a 10-15 minutes to make. We order the cheese pizza with wings, hot dog. The food was good, fresh and hot. The pizza cost around $13.00 , the hotdog cost around $5.00 and wing cost around $7.00 for 6. This is a great hole in the wall unique joint. Fresh food & friendly service. When you come here be prepared so you can fully enjoy the experience. Service is always with a smile but the food is freshly prepared they don't put it on the grill until you order it. You can always call ahead, they do phone orders real good. It is a small place, that means small parking lot and less than 10 tables outside looking down on the Thorton River (no indoor seating). Also, there is no cell service or internet in this corner of the woods, be prepared to talk to your dining companions. With all that said... great burgers and handcut fries! Never noticed this place until today - so I'm not sure how long it's been here - but it has been a few years since I've passed down U.S. 211 through Sperryville. You walk inside what is almost like a covered porch and place your order at a window. I ordered a Bison Bacon cheese burger with Swiss cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, plus a Diet Pepsi. Strangely enough, I noticed a zip lock bag full of water suspended over the Order window. I asked the young lady about - she stated that it confuses the flies and keeps them out. Okkkkkaaaaaaayyyyyyy. Took about 7-8 minutes for my burger to come out. They cook it from scratch, so it takes longer than a fast food joint. I took my burger and beverage and went and sat at a picnic table sitting above the Thornton RIver, which was merrily gurgling and babbling as it passed over rock and stone. Burger was very average, a little disappointing actually. But it was not bad, just not noteworthy. The burger pattie itself had that "wallowing in grease on a metal griddle" taste to it. What a cute little burger place!! The first time I came here was three years ago after I finished my freshman orientation program in Shenandoah. It created a lasting memory so I decided to stop by when my dad and I were on our way up to the mountains. It is run by a very sweet and friendly couple. Really slow and inefficient service but good food and milkshakes at a decent price. I got a hamburger with mushrooms, swiss, grilled onions, and tomato for $4.25 (the burger without the toppings would've been $2.25) and a large pumpkin pie milkshake for $4.25. Both were really good but it took forever to come out and then went back and made half my group's order before they took the other half of my group's order so we were there forever. We look forward to stopping at this "Burger Joint" on our way up 211 to a campground we visit often. It is not always convenient to stop as we are usually hauling a camper. Last night, however, we had an opportunity to stop. Just as we remembered from other stops. The burgers are good but not great...paper thin but a good taste. Fries were good, we loved them! The girl working seemed to be the only one working so it took a little bit to get our order but no longer than if we stopped at a 5 Guys. I have only 2 suggestions for the owners... I'm always excited when I'm traveling and come across a unique, side of the road food joint. Burgers 'N' Things looked like it was going to be THE find of my recent weekend in the Shenandoah Valley. Not so much. It has a charming burger stand demeanor but the food left a lot to be desired. I went simple: bacon cheeseburger, french fries and a pink lemonade. I've had better cheeseburgers at McDonalds, honestly. The meat was terrible quality and paper thin. The fries were Ore Ida quality and some of them were still cold in the middle. Very run down (it's old, I get it, but how about a little curb appeal?) and not the cleanest place I've ever eaten. The girls working there will hopefully move on to big careers, but ladies, while you're working your burger joint job, don't sit there and curse and talk about your boyfriend in front of me and my family; unprofessional. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, early in the fall busy season at Shenandoah National Park. After waiting 30 minutes and seeing only three customers served during that time, we were still six tickets away from getting our food. Half an hour for a hamburger, hot dog and order of fries was too much. However, when I asked to cancel my order for a refund, the clerk immediately started stalling. First she said it would be right out, then that they were just waiting for fries. Finally she said that the food had already been cooked and I just couldn't have a refund. It had already been 30 minutes with no end in sight, so I ended up leaving without my food or my money. Since it was more important to make a buck than admit that I had been waiting too long, it will be the last ten dollars of my hard-earned money they'll ever see. read more

The worst experience I've ever had at a burger place. Flies rampantly flying everywhere and circling around an uncovered trash bin. Terrible service combined with uncleanliness from the employees took away my appetite. No hair nets or beard nets. Flies in the kitchen. Cleaning supplies on food prep counters. I took one bite of my burger and couldn't eat any more. The "shoestring" fries were frozen from a container that I would expect from seven eleven. Along with all of that it took upwards of forty minutes for me and my friends to get a couple hamburgers and hot dogs. Will NEVER be going back. read more

You don't have chairs n' tables. You don't have ambience. You sometimes have to wait in your car if it's raining. but, the folks in the kitchen are friendly. That scenery is beautiful with the Thornton River flowing passed, the wind blowing through the Piedmont below the Shenandoah. What you do have is a selection that is quite surprising. Take their egg sandwiches. You can get it on a bagel with lettuce tomatoes onions, choice of meats....and yeah, it costs $5... And its worth every penny. As a Rappahannock resident, I can honestly say it's one of the best in the county. Wanna burger? Veggie, and bean burgers for those who don't want meat. Don't want beef? How about bison or chicken? Some folks think their BBQ is the best in the area. Even the Tunafish sandwiches are outstanding! They are well prepared, and the place is relatively clean - all the way to the light fixtures. The shakes? Hand made, and yes, they take awhile - that's a good thing. Thick and yummy. Is it comparable to its neighbor ten miles away, "The Inn in Little Washington"? Really cool little place with a great view and great ice cream! There is an excellent road to ride a motorcycle on and check out the nearby scenery. When you hit Sperryville, from East or West on 211, slow down at Burgers N Things. Both sides of 211 are dangerous at that point... The burgers are nice, and some other things are fantastic, "if you ask", and service friendly, and picnic tables are always clean. The Strawberry Milkshake is always fresh. If you're westbound, next good fast food stop is 90 Miles, Eastbound is 45 Miles. I'm not quite as psyched about this little joint as I used to. For one, it's a little pricy for a walk-up window. A $3 burger here could be found on the dollar menu at the typical fast food chain. The soft serve ice cream is decent, but again, its a little pricy for what it is. It's not Chik fila either--the teenagers working here are quite as cheery and if you don't make your mind up quickly they're slamming the window shut on you. read more

I have been coming here for years. The food is decent, its definitely frozen like others have stated but hey, you get what you pay for. The prices are relatively reasonable in that aspect. I always get the burgers and they have not disappointed. The service is usually very slow if there is a line since theres usually only two people working there at one time (one taking orders and doing the milkshakes, while the other is doing the cooking). It IS very convenient on my way to Skyline Drive and I will continue to eat here. Just be forewarned, if you go when the leaves are changing color up on the Drive, you may have to wait in lines up to an hour to an hour and a half. read more

Not sure what happened to this place....I used to always get a fried catfish sandwich that was delicious and satisfying. Got one recently (after maybe a year or so since my last one) and it was tiny. Used to be 2x or more the size. New owners? Also called in the order first (20 mins before I got there) and they hadn't begun frying it till I arrived. Maybe it was because we unknowingly came right before closing, but the staff was not friendly. I came back inside to wait for my food after exploring outside a little, and the lady who appeared to be the manager locked me in and told me they were closed. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The food was lower quality than even McDonald's. I thought the quality would be a little better for the price we paid. It tasted ok if you're in the mood for super greasy food. The cheese fries were fries with a broke up piece of American cheese on top even though they have nacho cheese sauce. Also, the cheese fries had a hair stuck in the cheese. We asked for a new one, but just got the same order returned to us with the hair pulled out. Tip- ask for light ice in your sodas because they fill your cup to the top with ice then don't even offer free refills. I'll be finding another place to eat next time I'm out hiking. Having lived in Flint Hill many moons ago I am quite familiar with this little roadside quick stop and eat. Heck, it's Rappahannock County's fast food venue. This is my favorite place to stop for a burger or sub on the cheap when in the area. You really can't get more down-home countryside Virginia than this place, if what you're hungry for is a hot or cold sandwich, fries, a milkshake or ice cream sundae on the way to somewhere. I love stopping here now whenever I'm mountain or westward bound. Friendly folks, decent food and a nice break from a long drive if your site seeing or hiking. If your really blessed, you might catch an outdoor picnic table on a lovely day and listen to the Thornton River rolling by. read more

We used to love this place. We would stop here on our way to Skyline Drive. However the ownership has changed, we think. Because it has gone downhill considerably in the last year. The wait times were always long, but we endured because their burgers were very good, great fries and their shakes were excellent. Then the last two times, have not been so great. They changed the burgers, for the worse. Then we stopped today, no parking because apparently they let the autobody shop park their vehicles in the customer parking, but we managed a spot. There were two orders in front of us and it was taking far too long to order. Our order took 5 minutes to place, I guess the new ordering system is a problem. But the food...waaay down hill. They changed everything. The burgers were blah! The grilled cheese was sub par, the cheese was not melted at all. How do you mess up a grilled cheese. And the fries were ok but not as good as previous visits, they changed the style. The milk shakes; they warned me as I picked up the order that the milk shake machine was broken, they were so thick you could not suck through the straw and after an hour of letting it melt...it was not like before. We used to recommend this place to everyone, however so as not to sully my name I have to take back my recommendation. I feel bad because I like small businesses, but why change the food? After six hours of hiking in the Shenandoahs, there was nothing I wanted more than a greasy burger and some fries. Thank you, burgers-n-things, for making my dreams come true. As others have said, no tables, chairs, bathrooms, any of those luxuries. However, there's a nice fence right next to the place. The staff were very friendly. One woman, perhaps the manager, even took the time to explain why there are bags of water over the window and doorway (they're to keep the flies away, FYI.) Oh! Also, it's all very reasonably priced. Sure we were in no hurry, but after 25-30 minutes of waiting for our order I asked what the hold-up was. I guess whoever trained the cashier forgot to tell them when you take an order and the customer pays you the next step is to give the order to the cook. Hard to forget in a restaurant the size of a backyard shed. It should be a very simple three step process actually but he forgot the last and most essential step in completing the order -- give it to the cook. Of course, the entire situation begged the question "how could you forget to give my order to the cook?" His response? "I guess sh*t happens, bro." Very nice response for a customer and his 11 year-old daughter. "No actually, an oven breaking is stuff happens, what you forgot to do is incompetence," I told him as he handed me my refund.
