The portions make sense for the price, the quality is consistent, and you don't leave feeling ripped off. I also really appreciate that they package their to-go food cleanly and securely. Nothing spills, nothing's sloppy. Location: It's in a super convenient spot. I can call the order in from work, they tell me it'll be ready in 15 minutes, and we pick it up on the way home. Easy, no stress, and it still feels like a treat at the end of the day. Tips: The combos are the way to go if you want a ton of food and some variation. It's the easiest way to try a little of everything without spending a fortune. Don't forget the coleslaw and sides! Think ahead about buns and sides if you're planning to stretch it into multiple meals. We keep fresh buns at home and toast them for each round, then reheat the pulled pork and pile it on with coleslaw - so good and enough food to last us a few days. To pair, throw together quick nachos (tortilla chips, shredded cheese, sliced black olives) in the microwave for 60 seconds - pair with sour cream and salsas you like! At home, if you're heating the potatoes, add a little butter on top before warming them up. It keeps everything moist and brings the flavor back to life. PSA: I love that it's an older Bend staple. Baldy's hasn't changed in the 26 years I've been going, and I had no clue it opened in 2005 as well (according to Bend Source)! It feels good supporting a place that's been around for that long, especially with the cost and quality control that comes with good meat. Genuinely, it's the only barbecue spot in Bend that's never let me down (or given tummy-trouble's) - so yeah, let's support the locals that keep showing up.

On the plus side, the beer was good and what I expect from Deschutes. Given that there are a bunch of brewery restaurants within a few blocks, I would have expected more flavorful food and absolutely a better experience with the staff.

A suggestion maybe would be create a small section outside. that's a no kid table for sunshine and drinking too. ;) it looks like they're making good use of their space. Ok but beyond that, this place had so many delicious and unique options. We had Italian arancinis twice, a sampler of Pierogis, delicious oyster shooters and shrimp tacos. One thing we didn't get but looked awesome: I don't know if we missed out on some gem, but so many people were getting the burgers/fries from one truck. Also, so many other people were getting stuff from the Thai truck. And to top it off... the beer/cider station had an awesome deal. For about the same price you'd pay for a typical pint, they pour about 20 ounces of happy beverage into a taller than I expected glass. The picnic tables are colorful, there's a covered tent if you're feeling cold, people are friendly... it's just overall a great place to chill, drink, & eat.

The primary - and significant - difference between The Lair and White Water was the latter offered up a wide array of beers from several breweries while The Lair now strictly pours their own (unless I missed seeing an off-brand tap). I consider Kobold beer to be middle of the (local) pack in terms of quaffability, so the new selection is a bit of a downgrade. Other changes include making the space darker and less sterile (more like a lair, I guess). New decorations are up and the electronic beer board is gone. They now offer a small sandwich menu. White Water sometimes hosted a popup poke-sushi operation. Not sure if that will happen at The Lair. Overall, A-OK but I will miss White Water.
