For the umpteenth tome I've had to fill out the same paperwork and asked if she had her vacancies. Mind you she goes on a regular basis, like don't you guys keep records? I've been to several groomers in the area and never had to do this at every appointment. Cookie was chewing at her leash the last time she was there she chewed through her leather leash, she never does this when she goes to Dr. Santo's. This is very telling that something is not right with their groomers, because she's never behaved this way at the others. I would not take your fur babies there. They definitely need serious improvement there, before a pet is hurt.

Upon check-in, I spoke with the front desk groomer who explained they likely wouldn't do a full haircut due to her age, which I completely understood. However, shortly after they took her to the back, we heard her screaming and barking, which already felt like a red flag. We left the store but received a call within 30 minutes saying they could no longer complete the appointment because her abdomen had become extremely distended and hard. They claimed she drank too much water and expressed concern about possible worms or other health issues, which was frustrating since she had just been cleared by our vet, and there was zero indication of any health concerns when we dropped her off. She was fine. They told us we would need to get her re-evaluated and bring written proof from a vet before they would groom her again. We took her home and, shockingly, she began having seizures within hours. We rushed her to the vet, which resulted in a very expensive emergency bill. I can't say for certain that the seizure was caused by what happened at Petco, but it's hard to ignore the timing and the fact that she was left unattended long enough to drink excessive water, enough to dangerously bloat a small puppy. Whether it was negligence or a lack of proper supervision, it was extremely upsetting and could have ended far worse. We will never be returning to Petco Grooming and will not be bringing our other dogs either. If you have a young or sensitive pup, I strongly suggest going elsewhere where they're better equipped to handle the care and supervision young dogs need.

They have an awesome selection of dog treats/food. The dog food is located in a separate section of the store - hard right when you enter & through another doorway. What keeps me coming back is the staff. On one visit, a cashier let me know a brand I'd been buying had gone downhill in quality and handed me samples of her top picks. That kind of honest, helpful advice is hard to find. The checkout area also tends to have timely impulse buys (hello, 4th of July calming chews) that actually come in handy. Rachael and David, who I believe may be the owners, or at the very least managers (along with their staff), are always friendly, inviting and extremely knowledgeable about animals and what food, or toys may be best for your pet based on your circumstances. They are always inviting and willing to help. I have also found that the pet food products they carry are typically healthier for your pet, more so than you may find at the big chains and box stores. The quality and price points of the pet food are fair and they often times have promotions and discounts. Many of the promotions are buy 12 and get your next one free (ie; bag or case of food etc.). Also, on weekends they have vaccination clinics and sometimes adoption events. They even have a dog wash inside. Check with the store to find out when and how often the Vaccine clinics, pet adoptions and dog wash is available. This place is located in Modesto, in a shopping center that looks like an old western town (corner of Tully and Standiford). Bottom line, I am glad to have found a personable store for all my pets' needs and to be able to help support a local small business.
