Come here for breakfast after church on Sundays. Always busy and full of patrons. Food is good. Staff is pleasant.

They're definitely a town favorite. There were multiple groups early that are regulars. I had a veggie omelette with hashbrowns and a biscuit. I also ordered a side dish of gravy, so I could rate that too. Everything was very good. Service was top notch from Desiree. Prices are extremely reasonable, with coffee my total was under $10. read more

My daughter and I were out and about and came across this cute little place to stop for breakfast. Staff was very friendly and prices were reasonable. I am told by the locals of Somonauk that this is the spot to eat at in the mornings. My friend and I both had burgers, mine, the southwest burger and hers was just a plain cheeseburger. Now as one who has frequented local Chicago burger joints, my palette is spoiled. I took into consideration of this fact, "this isnt Chicago" My southwest burger consisted of what i believe to be a potato bun, which was toasted. In the burger, there were two onion rings topped with mesquite barbeque sauce and garnished with shredded cheddar. The beef patty quality was less than what I am used to but it did work in a pinch. The sides i had were french fries and a cup of Ham and White Bean soup. WHICH WAS DELISH. Their fries were crisp to perfection, i could even say it was probably the best fries i had at a sit down diner. I would most def eat here again, and i would try something on the breakfast menu next time. To all my new Somonauk friends, i love you guys. read more

The food is ok but the service is horrible. this was their third chance to give better service and they failed so we will not be going back. We sat there for at least 15 minutes today before anyone even came to take our order then our waitress put customers' orders in before ours who came in 15 minutes after us. Last week my daughters went here and had the same experience. One of them ordered her bacon well done and when it came soggy and undercooked and she commented that she had ordered it well done the waitresses response was "well it's going to be a while then." my other daughter ordered a side of toast and asked for it twice and it still never came. I am not sure why I have been avoiding writing about this hometown restaurant. I have been going here since I was a kid. I remember eating here with my grandma. Well, I lied I think I do know why I haven't written about it, I always wish it was just slightly better. I really want to LOVE this place I really want to give it 5 stars even 4, but all I can give it is a big ol' like with a grand total of 3 stars. There was small town controversy when the new owners bought the restaurant. People thought it was going to really go down hill. There was change and no one wanted it. And in my eyes it is way easier to be a pessimist. Guess what?! I think the new owners are great! they are very hospitable and reasonable. When something is wrong with your meal (rare) they fix it. The servers are nice and super good with kids. Its family owned and you see the family often. There were a handful of times the owner took my kids to the store across the street and bought them m&m's. The amount of times we have been there I swear it wasn't weird. Those are the things that bring us back again and again. Here's what your waiting for; the problem. The building is starting to get a little run down. It really needs some major update! I.E. the "carpet" looks gross in the main dining area and the bathrooms are not something to tell mom about. **Yicks! Is the word for it!** I wish they would do something about the building and it would be such a great place to be. My vote; if your in town and you wanna eat breakfast out, definitely check out this restaurant. You might not even notice the things I do. My wife and I drove there for our anniversary breakfast. We wanted to go someplace different than where we lived and were glad we made the drive. The food there was very delicious, good portion sizes and very reasonably priced. We went on a weekday morning, and although the restaurant was not packed there was a steady stream of people coming in for breakfast. Despite this, our waitress was friendly and efficient. I have eaten at this restaurant twice now. Once on a Monday morning for breakfast and then on a Sunday morning for breakfast. I recommend not going here on a Sunday! We arrived at 10am and didn't leave until noon for a simple skillet breakfast. During the week at the same time this place was deserted. Service was much better during the week. Food is excellent however the restaurant itself seems a little run down. Also all the furniture is mismatched, none of the chairs are alike. I was hungry for some breakfast and wanted to try some local flavor, so I quickly found this on Yelp. There were good reviews and it was within a mile of where I was, so I told my husband we had to go. I'm glad we stopped in! For a Sunday morning at 10am, this place was packed! There was barely standing room and there was a large group in front of us waiting. Since it was just us two, we had the option of sitting at the counter but the stools were rather low to the ground and I was in a dress, so we opted to wait for a table. When one was finally available, the waitress kept apologizing for how long we had to wait. Really, it wasn't that bad and we got to see tons of menu items go by to help aid our decision making. (Everything looked so, so good.) They had several omelets on special that day and they all sounded good. I knew we were going to have a large lunch, so I opted to order a half order of biscuits and gravy (B&Gs). My husband ordered hash browns and bacon. The food arrived almost immediately. My B&Gs were great! It was one biscuit cut in half and those halves slathered in gravy with sausage. I love it when my gravy has sausage in it. My husband loved his hash browns and the bacon was bacon. (It could have been a little crispier, but we didn't specify so it was still good.) We finished quickly and paid at the front counter. As we paid, the employee at the front counter even apologized for the wait. Everyone was so nice and accommodating here! I can't wait to come back and try other menu items! read more

This is the best breakfast place anywhere. This is small town America at its best. Great food. But the people make the difference. Everyone is very nice. And I love the rustic look of the place. It's always busy with regulars from all around the area. They get what is important. Good variety. Great food. Great service. Reasonable prices. I eat breakfast at the Country Kitchen 5 days a week. The service is always great. The quality of the food speaks for it self. If for some reason there is something wrong with your order it is corrected immediately. If your looking to get answer to any questions you may have on anything, there is a group of regulars that can help you. It is a very diverse group that frequent the Country Kitchen. Just a heads up, it dose get packed on Saturdays and Sunday mornings, so get there early. read more

very bad experience/will not go back even though i was a regular i went in the restaraunt on april 1 2013 and sat at a booth for 15 minutes and no waitress we didnt even get the table cleaned off from the previos patrons and i decided i would give it five more minutes,well the waitresses were taking things back and forth and doin a lot of talking after about 20 minutes inside i decided the best thing to do was leave so i got up from my tabl and kindly walked over to the lady handing out he munus and i told her i was unhappy and i told her why and they prompted me to stay but i decided to do the best thing which at that moment was to leave,these people lost a good customer as i frequented this restaurant on a weekly basis/they need to pay more attention to the people who walk in the door/and they definately need to provide better service/if you plan on going there be prepered this wasnt my first bad experience but i do know one thing imeating elsewhere from now on read more
