The courtyard never disappoints. I've eaten here multiple times and I've never walked out dissatisfied or disappointed. I've tried their pork chops, their shrimp, their fish specials....all delicious!! I have to say my favorite is the prime rib and the chicken Jane. Yesterday I had a taste for yummy food and we drove up to Somonauk to grab diner to go. We ordered the chicken Jane and the prime rib and my husband and I split both. Omg so good!! Prime rib was perfect, we asked for medium rare and that is exactly what we got. A very decent size and perfectly cooked. The chicken Jane is a grilled chicken breast and it's seasoned or marinated to perfection. It just tastes so good. Both meals came with a choice of potato and soup or salad. We chose the salad and swapped the potato for the veggie if the day which was green beans. My entire meal was just what I wanted. Wish I want on a diet or I would have ordered a slice of their pie. All ours are made in house and are heaven!!! Highly recommend them for a good home cooked meal. read more

Found this gem while looking for new takeout places during this Corona pandemic. Had the ribs and they were fall off the bone, melt in your mouth fantastic. The sauce was just perfect; not too tangy,not too sweet. I also had their cream puff, which if I was ever given a "last meal" I'd ask for a 1/2 dz... They're pretty big and filled with their amazing homemade custard. Comes with chocolate syrup or powdered sugar or both. Definitely ordering there again. read more

I found myself in Sandwich and was on the hunt for a new place for a Friday fish fry. I was intrigued by their website that they offered beer battered, broiled or blackened Cod. Much to my surprise I could get one of each as a platter. I enjoyed them all, but the beer battered was my favorite. Got a nice serving of green beans instead of potatoes, because they're breads are good and I wanted to enjoy the cheese spread they offer you. It goes great on crackers, breadsticks, bread or your fingers, according to the waitress. They've been around since 1982 and it's the same family run business. Even grandkids have their finger in the business. You got to get a piece of pie, the matriarch (the hostess) has been making them ever since day one with her daughter. I stopped here for a quick bite to eat. It is a local place with local flavor and when I first entered, it seemed homey and welcoming. As I waited to be seated and was stared down by all the senior citizens in the place, I started to feel a little uncomfortable. A man came in after me, walked up to the to-go area and paid for his order. I decided I would order something to go, instead of waiting around in hopes of being seated or from getting stared at. The man who took my order was super nice. I only ordered the French Onion soup and a slice of coconut pecan pie, but he was very meticulous about getting my order right and then went back and started to make/bag everything up. He was really helpful and I appreciate how nice he was! He even bagged my items separate, just in case the soup fell over I wouldn't ruin my pie. It was really thoughtful! The food survived the trip and I was able to eat the soup from the container it was in (no spills). It was still hot and delicious. I could have ate another bowl! The coconut pecan pie was skimpy on the pecans and I didn't warm it up, which was a mistake on my part. The actual slice itself wasn't very large either, but I guess I didn't need that on my waistline. I probably wouldn't order it again, but they had a lot of other different pie flavors so I could just go down the list until I found the right pie slice for me. Overall, I'd definitely come back with a group of people instead of solo if I wanted to dine-in. If I'm ordering to go, now I know where to go and how to go about it. read more

I've been living in the area for a while now but I just had my first experience here. The restaurant is warm and inviting, and honestly looks like a house! very cozy. Our waitress Diane was so attentive and charming, making sure she got the right orders and everything we wanted was given to us promptly and with a smile. They're famous for their Chicken George. I wanted to try it but no one wanted to share with me! Just order more George sauce...the serving of sauce didn't seem to be enough! I ha the French onion soup. very rich and flavorful, warm, and savory. Also the bacon cheeseburger has great flavor and my medium burger was cooked perfectly. I love this place. We moved to the area after living in a very populated urban city and found out quickly that our options were very limited to where to eat. This place is wonderful. Great food, fresh, and homemade charm. A variety of options, homemade pies, and competitive prices. I am happy that we went from having so much options to a few great options out here. The food was so bland I actually needed to ask for some sauce in order to have a bit of flavor, and I hate asking for sauce unless I need to. And why is there a slice of lemon and herb on EVERYTHING? Even the kids hamburgers had it, which is ridiculous. Really, it just felt dated and the service didn't make up for it. I'm not saying the service was bad, only that I don't believe in not tipping. Oh, and who taught the cooks how to plate? Either it was a decade or two ago, or they looked at some really old books. (One of the pictures on Yelp isn't bad, but the one posted on Facebook is something I would expect from a low budget fast food place. Well where do I start...okay the food. You can not go wrong picking something from the menu. The signature Chicken George and " George sauce" is something that will satisy your taste buds! The unique lightly battered chicken and george sauce will become a tradition for you at the courtyard. If you cannot eat it all, you can always take it home and broil in the oven for a few min. My favorite Friday night fish is their blacken cod. If you have tried blacken fish at other places, don't even try to compare. It's a healthy option on a Friday for fish. Last time I was at the courtyard I was informed about their Thursday night Cajun night. After viewing the menu for that, I know where I'm going to be on Thursday. With reasonable prices you can't beat a meal at the courtyard. If you want to try you'll have to bring home some homemade dressings and George sauce that they sell to get close! Oh and last for the food, you can NOT forget the homemade pies! If you are too full, take one or two slices to go. For the environment , very family friendly. Always a good crowd, and most likely you'll find some locals. Everything is very clean, including the bathrooms, big plus for me. The servers do everything to make you experience the best. I would recommend the Village Courtyard to anyone and everyone. I go there for not only the food, but to get a homemade meal that I don't have to cook! read more

It is family owned - family run - and we were guests. They cared about us - our meals - our evening. The food was plentiful and prepared perfectly. This is my favorite restaurant in Somonauk. I always order the pork chop. Which is usually cooked to perfection. It tends to be more comfort or old school food. The desserts are home made and the only items I've had and been disappointed in. The portions are small for the higher price. Frankly, just not worth it. The meals are filling enough that I don't leaving feeling like I missed out on anything by not ordering the pie. The place hasn't been updated in decades and this only adds to the charm of the restaurant. The whole town is a bit retro. I love it. read more

We have lived in the area for over 30 years and somehow did not discover this gem until recent years. It is now our favorite place to eat. There is nothing around that compares to it. The servers are very friendly and make you feel as if you are in their home. My husband almost always gets the fried chicken. He hasn't found it anywhere else that he likes better. I have tried a variety of dishes and have been please with all of them. I especially enjoy getting the fried chicken and spaghetti specials on Tues. through Thurs. and the Chicken George. They have specials each day and I love it when they have salmon patties or beef tips on noodles. We have also enjoyed steaks and fried shrimp. You really can't go wrong. Not only is so much of it homemade but they even grow some of the vegetables in their own garden. The coconut pecan pie is our favorite, but all of their desserts are great.
