My buddy and I dropped in without much research, only noticed good ratings for this small town restaurant serving breakfast all day with a huge menu, had to try. Found a pleasant and clean atmosphere, feeling both new and vintage at the same time, breakfast was on his mind but I was drawn to the Reuben. We both had big wins. This smart staff kept things moving and both dishes, and then mine, showed up quick enough. Pancakes, omelet, and my Reuben was fantastic. I could complain about such a lovely plastic going red dye number forty with the dressing but small potatoes. Unlike the feast across the table! He couldn't finish it all even after doing a serious bike race hours earlier that day! I found myself smashing through the second best Reuben, after my top rated Town and Gown in my Lafayette, Indiana. Small town eats right here. Big portion sizes and low cost. Kids had the burgers, spaghetti and grilled cheese. All liked their meals and they were good portion sizes for kids. They were $6 each. I had the turkey avocado wrap and my wife had the turkey club. Both were big and tasty. So much that we could barely eat everything and took half of my wrap with us. Service was friendly and helpful. My wife loved the breakfast combo platter, the pancakes were magnificent. I order the skirt steak and eggs, definitely in the top 5 ever. Cozy and a nice cafe for a small town. Loved their giant homemade bowl of chicken, orzo and vegetable soup with the crispy chicken sandwich I ordered. The coleslaw was very good. Had to sample the hashbrown too. Quality food. When the relative I am staying at neighbor says they eat there daily, that means the food is good. Have to agree. If I lived here I probably will be coming here everyday as the price is very decent for the amount of food I got. When I walked in, polite and friendly waitstaff greeted me, sat down and had no problems refilling my drink throughout. Usually I have to ask but never had to throughout this dining experience. Simply excellent. We were at the campground nearby and the rain washed away our breakfast plans to cook over the fire. We visited this small town diner and are blown away by the friendly service and incredible food at affordable prices. The servings are large, the prices are cheap, and it's a very family friendly atmosphere. It feels like grandma fixed you breakfast. We actually could have made a meal the next day, but decided to go back to Shabonna (pronounced sheb-ah-nay) Cafe. Belgian waffle was huge and crispy, skillet dish was very large and tasty, Benedict was delicious with perfect hollandaise, biscuits and gravy had lots of flavor and fluffy biscuits. On the lunch menu, the fries seem to be battered or something but they are crispy and tasty. Kid's meals are only $4.99 and include a drink. Adult meals are in the $6-9 range with a few steak and dinner dishes priced higher. Lots of selection! If I ever find myself in Shabonna again, I'll be sure to visit the good people of this restaurant and see my daughter's drawing on the wall. read more

We come to Shabbona once a year for camping but this was the first time we have ever come to this restaurant. It was awesome. The food was great the wait staff was incredible, attentive. Shabbona Café, was a great find. it was recommended to me by an someone who I spoke with in shabbona city. I was not disappointed. I had their country skillet which was also recommended by the waitress when I told her I was very hungry. It was loaded with sausage potatoes cheese top with country style gravy and I had 2 eggs over easy which were placed on top. I was probably the best skillet I've had in a very long time. I tried my best to finish the skillet but failed. I have to return to try their other meals. I was told that the chef bought this place In January of this year. We've eaten here on many occasions. The food is excellent and the staff is extremely courteous and helpful. We have taken small children and 92 year olds and have always received super service and great food. I have a dairy intolerance and have asked my food to be prepared without any dairy and have had no problems. The food always comes out timely and hot. We live in Shabbona and frequent the cafe a lot. The staff is always pleasant and very accommodating. The premises are pristine. The food always arrives fast and HOT. You get a lot of food that is tasty and reasonably priced. One of my favorites to order is soup in a bread bowl. The bread bowl is freshly made. So delicious!
