Ok, this place is a FOR SURE hidden gem! They hand make their chicken strips.....that should say it all. The kids menu has fresh handmade strips that taste AMAZING! Rice flour so they are light with a perfect crisp. The salads are AWESOME, their chipotle ranch is next level, and the blackened chicken is outstanding! We went once for the first time and have been back like 3 times in 2 weeks. The prices are great, foods even better and the service matches the taste... If you're traveling through sandwich - this is a great choice! The only negative is the parking. There's not really anywhere to park. Today me and my dad were in sandwich Illinois decided to stop at an old diner he hasn't been in 20 years!. to our surprise the restaurants food did not change at all the food was still excellent. Our server Sherry was exceptional,Came back to check up on us at least 4-5 times which in our book is a big plus. We highly recommend bull moose bar and Grille. SUPER CUTE place and amazing food. We drove by and my bro had a faint memory of being here a decade ago. We turned around and came back to dine in. Glad we did! It is an old rail car from 1893 that was converted into a restaurant. It has a rich and interesting history. Lots of cute antique memorabilia behind glass in the rail car section. Look at the back page of the menu to read about its history. Very neat. An excellent selection of food and very good quality meals. Sheri T. waited on us and provided great service. Super friendly and patient with us. Mom had a chicken salad croissant sandwich and my bro and I split a blackened ahi tuna burger with a side of tater tots. MMMM one of the best ahi tuna sandwiches I've had. It had a nice toasted bun and thin slices of fresh avocado. Nice touch. The tater tots were crispy but not greasy, and very good. The interior of this restaurant is adorable. Lots of things to look at. We really thought it was beautiful and fun. Definitely worth another stop next time we are in town. We try to come here when down in the area, no more. Everything we tried to order, we couldn't because they were out of bacon. Could maybe tell us before we get to ordering as it eliminates about 60% of the menu. So we ended up ordering nachos to split. Lots of jalapeños, which would be fine if you liked them as it was not mentioned in the menu. Even with removing them, the dish it self was not really good and we ended up leaving half of it. My wife and I went for Lunch on 5/17. We just had soda water. Mind you, this is water with bubbles, that's it. Since we don't drink, this is our go to. We get the bill and each soda water was $3.99! I have never been charged for what essentuall is water. I ask the server, and without any kind of concern or empathy, she said "well because it comes out of a box, we charge for it". I have been in the restaurant business and the box is for flavored syrups, NOT CO2! No wonder it was empty on a Friday for lunch. read more

This is the place to go for a great sandwich in Sandwich. The best way to experience it is with a group of friends. Arrive early so you can request seating in the train car before it fills up. Fer heaven's sake, don't be in a rush because, like so many restaurants nowadays, they're perpetually short of help. We enjoyed friendly service and pub grub that was farrr above average. The fried pickle and fried green tomato apps are among the best we've had anywhere. Their hefty half-pound burgers rival places that specialize in gourmet burgers. The house apple slaw rocks. You wouldn't expect their pressed Cuban sandwich to stand out, but it was amazing. The chicken pesto sandwich and shrimp basket, too, received high marks from our companions. Love this place. Our first time there while visiting Sandwich. The food was so very good. My husband had the BLT with lots of bacon and I had the garlic burger perfectly cooked and dressed. We were catching a play nearby and there aren't many restaurants in this small town, so we thought we would give it a try and it was really a great decision! I Loved the Taco Salad - all ingredients were fresh and it had a bite with the chopped jalepenos! The house-made ranch was amazing! My husband liked his chopped salad (mostly because they had French Dressing) and my mother ordered fried shrimp which came with a very large portion of, I'm guessing, homemade coleslaw! This was great tasting! My sister had a pulled pork sandwich and they certainly did not skimp on the meat! My other sister had a BLT wrap and an Amazing Carmel Apple Martini! I generally don't complain about restaurants but just ate at Bull Moose Bar & Grill in Sandwich. Nobody came to our table for 15 minutes. I had to ask if someone had our table. When she came didn't apologize for the wait. I served for many years and if I was swamped I would let them know I'd be with them as soon as possible or at least get them water. Whatever, we ordered, food was alright. Get the bill and it's $30.54 if you paid cash and $31 something if used a card. She gave us back $9 no .46 cents. We asked and she said they don't give change. Made a trip to Sandwich for a sandwich at the Bull Moose Bar and Grille. We ordered a Reuben and a Cuban. They were both decent sandwiches. The pork on the Cuban was dry, though the flavors on it were quite good. The Reuben was also tasty, with a good meat to sauerkraut ratio. We were seated right away and were able to sit in the train car which is a fun ambiance. Prices are fair for what you get. I love a good Ruben and it's usually a safe bet. How do you screw up corned beef, marbled rye, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing?? Well.....the corned beef was incredibly stringy and chewy. The saddest thing about this is that the Bull Moose touts the fact that they make their own corned beef!!! Me and family, friends have been meeting at Bull Moose for several years, but lately the experience has not been so good. The quality of food has greatly diminished, though ambience and service is pretty good. The menu has changed and I really struggle to find something appealing. At our most recent visit I ordered a club sandwich. Simple, what could go wrong? Well, what I was served did not resemble a club sandwich. Smothered in pickles, thick White bread and cut in half. I literally could not taste turkey. I tried to eat it but couldn't. This restaurant has changed but I did notice on menu that new ownership in 2022. What a place. Started from a Pullman Palace train car that appeared to have been a dining and bar car. Teddy Roosevelt actually rode in this car! It is now part of a building that houses a bar and grill. Aside from the amazing history and things to see they serve some of the best food I've ever eaten! Mostly bar food but so good! I got the Daily Special: Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of homemade in house Potato Chips. Usually I'm disappointed with homemade chips- these were incredible! Not greasy but light, brown and crispy! The Pulled Pork was also very good, served on a bun. I don't eat French Fries much anymore but they make the absolute best! New management = horrid service & cold food. My mom and I came here on a Friday night where there was not many people inside... Bar service was horrid. As such, we asked to move to sit at a table thinking service would be better than the bar... Service was better-ish, but it took 25+ minutes to get our food and then my mother's baked potato was so cold her butter wouldn't even melt. The "manager" came over and offered us a 10% off discount which was pretty much covered the tax on the bill. We went here because Mike and Denise's had a 30 min. wait; next time I will take the wait. We went here after a concert at the Sandwich Opera House (fabulous--must see). It was a weird time for a crowd to be going to dinner, and I think it caught Bull Moose staff a little off guard to get a mini rush in the late afternoon. This is probably why service was slow. Our server was very friendly, and when our order was wrong, she fixed it kindly. Food was delicious. We had fried pickles, southwest rolls, burgers, fries, and brisket sliders (particularly good). We had the most amazing service and food here. We sat at the bar on Monday night for the burger special on President's Day and Nico was phenomenal. He had a full bar, was making drinks for the servers, and was talking tables and he did it brilliantly. He was engaging, funny, and helped us decide what to drink. He actually made us specialty cocktails. Oh, and he checked the ingredients in the dressings to make sure we could eat them because of an allergy. If you want to have fun and laugh I highly recommend sitting at the bar with him. The burgers were awesome, $8 with fries and the meat is fresh from Dave's Meat Market on Mondays. The food at Bull Moose is fantastic! I've enjoyed every meal I've ordered. BUT - pick it up yourself or eat there. Their delivery service is terrible!! Once I ordered a hanger steak meal and I got a cheeseburger and fries. Door Dash told me there was nothing they could do about it. They were not responsible. Today I placed an order at 9:30 in the morning for delivery this evening at 6:45. At 7:15 I called Bull Moose, since their tracking system said the driver was still waiting for my order. The woman I spoke with said they had not received the order, but I gave her the Bull Moose confirmation number I got when the order was placed. Somehow, it "got lost", and the evening people knew nothing about it til the Door Dash driver came in for it. I had ordered a dinner of grilled chicken with wild rice and vegetables. When she said they were just filling my order and what did I want with my chicken salad, I told her that wasn't even what I had ordered and to cancel the whole thing. I don't normally rave on for so long but I am really disappointed. Again. Maybe half of my orders were delivered correctly, but the other half either didn't make it here at all or never even came. As I said, the food is wonderful but DON'T use delivery. read more

4.5 star, that is... This is a gem in Sandwich, IL. Not much cause to head to Sandwich except for their annual end of summer All-Star baseball tourney, so when visiting the rural town, I had to rely on Yelp to figure out where to eat. The review for Bull Moose did not steer us wrong. You can sit in the rail car or at high tops in the bar. We wanted to watch the Cubs game, so we sat in the bar. The air conditioning could have been turned down a couple more degrees, but the menu looked great so we stayed. My son got the flatbread cheese pizza. He loved it, said it was one of the best kids' meal pizzas he's had. I tried it, I wouldn't make the same claim he did, but he was very happy. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich. He loved it. He ate it all and his fries too. I also got fries as my side, they really were awesome. They are thick spiral cut fries, fried to perfection. I can't ever recall this style of fry before, but other restaurants should ask for their secret. My main dish was the Cali Wrap. It was a turkey, bacon, tomato and lettuce wrap with avocado and mayo. There was so much avocado, it made the wrap super delicious when mixed with the easy amount of mayo. As for drinks, we had a Miller Lite for $2.33, yes people, $2.33 for a draft beer, and a Porch Rocker for $3.36...I mean, what!?!?!? That is a crazy price for a craft draft. Those prices alone are reason enough to stop in, let alone the really yummy menu. Finally, after dinner, the boys played a game of pool and I put $3 in the slot machine. I turned it into $7 in five minutes, so I took my winnings and called it a day...and a great experience! So the .5 star deduction come for the service. No one working was very ambitious to speed up any part of the restaurant experience; they weren't very engaged with any customers, just chatting with each other.
