Denny's Super Valu was exactly what we were looking for. The employees were helpful in directing us to certain food, and it was a pleasant experience for us too. The store is full of charm and value - and most importantly, local foods! Of course we were looking for cheese curds and Denny's Super Valu had quite the selection. Cheddar and white - and a mix, plus others with seasonings and such... and local! We already had our smoked salmon from Havegard's and the mix of Cheddar and white looked most appealing. We saw some other cruisers looking for WI cheese curds and pointed out the great varieties. We weren't the only ones looking for local cheese goodness! No indeed, as when we were back onboard the ship we found some new friends had grown up with cheese curds and were wishing they had found Denny's Super Valu as well. Yep, we DID share our cheese curds and even some of the smoked salmon. The ship's food was fabulous, but the cheese curds and smoked salmon were worthy of a scouting trip in lovely Algoma! We always check out the baking aisle - and were so tempted at the boxed whipped frosting. You all have Jello sugar free pudding that is to be cooked - and that did come home with us. The candy aisle is also a gotta check it out, and I found a special bag of black licorice for a new friend who LOVES it - and the rewards for it were beyond belief. The market is smaller than I imagined, but it was stacked with lots of goodies. There were samples throughout and I really enjoyed the tart cherry juice and picked up a bottle to take home. They also had blue Amish popcorn, which is a treat. I was surprised there weren't any regular restrooms but just a portable outside which an employee told me even they must use. No thank you. I guess it's too early for fresh corn even though it was sold at the market it was not from Wisconsin because it is too early. So that was a little disappointing, thinking I was getting fresh corn.

They make their own sausage and will cut anything to order. Some cuts are not always in stock, but they will get it with reasonable notice. Service is outstanding. Friendly, knowledgable and prompt. They have started a catering business, which I have not used, but these people do everything right, so it surely will be good. Same family, but not same ownership, as Marchants in Brussels, Wi. I think the meats are better at the Sturgeon Bay store, but both are good.
