Nice selection but ungodly expensive. I only had some fudge, a small English toffee and one other item and the cost was $73. I could have been ok with that but the candy was mediocre at best. Will not be going back...just not a good value for the money. read more

They are generous with the samples, which I like! They'll let you sample the fudge and taffy, and perhaps other candies if you ask politely. After tasting some of the taffy, I bought a few pieces for my kids. They have a rainbow assortment of taffy in all kinds of flavors: banana, birthday cake, tropical fruit, etc. The fudge was fine, too, but fudge isn't really my thing, so I can't tell you if it was amazing or not. (All fudge is mid to me.) The store is like a candy wonderland. You will find vintage candy, modern candy, lollipops, chocolates, toffee, licorice, gummies, gumballs and lots more. Very painfully average for such an overpriced shop. The look of the interior is nice, it really matches the vibes id expect of a candy shop, but the candy itself is mild at best. The chocolates within the cases (truffles, fudge, etc.) are entirely unmarked, with no clearly visible signs indicating price, even per pound. That already came off as a bit fishy, but going up to the register confirmed my suspicions--this place is atrociously expensive. The chocolate itself wasn't good unfortunately, every flavor I tried just tasted like sugar and nothing else. The purchase, which totalled to $70 for 2 cherry chunks and 5 truffles (mind you truffles are maybe 1/8 the size of your palm...) ended up being something I had regrets over, as I didn't enjoy a single item from it. The store does have some good points, the service isn't bad by any means, but you could find better candy at pretty much any other store/fudgery for half the price. read more

I'm a local and I wanted to get my kid a quick ice cream for being a good helper. Came in and only a few folks inside. Stood in front of the Cedar Crest ice cream for about 2-3 minutes before we were "greeted" by the gal working who said "she would be right with us". We knew what we wanted and didn't mind waiting or paying a premium price. A minute or two later a man came in and stood in front of the ice cream next to us, was immediately asked what he wanted and was also served immediately. She then brought him over to the other checkout and never even asked if we were ready before serving him. We were completely skipped over. We walked out and got soft serve for $2 in the BP gas station instead. With so many other options in this town, go somewhere else because they clearly don't understand what service is. read more

Like many others on here, I got "scammed" at the register for fudge. I asked for a little fudge and the owner gave me a huge chunk that cost more than $30. He asked me how much I wanted or show me a piece and I admittedly was slightly inebriated so I wasn't paying too much attention but it felt scammy. It sounds like after reading reviews of many other sober customers this is par for the course. And the fudge wasn't even that good. read more

Pretty good place to visit! It's definitely one of those shops where their treat displays are far more encompassing than anything else. You will be like "I want this and that and ohhhh for sure that", by the time you are done -- you'll be like all this $$ for a few pieces of goodness?! Yes, its worth it! Very rich and savory flavors which is my kind of treat. The Staff: Very welcoming and was willing to help us tourist learn about their process and the history of this establishment. Environment: Pretty clean and nothing major to report here Covid measures: When we went, no one was masked but those in the back making the treats were masked (as far I saw). I ordered a shake. After a short wait until an employee who can make a shake was found. When the shake was handed to me I was as thin as water!! I let the young girl know that it wasn't acceptable. This a beautifully maintained store located in the downtown (uptown?) area of Sturgeon Bay. We drove by the night before and told ourselves, "we have to stop there tomorrow." We found on street parking just outside the candy shop and were immediately captivated by the storefront. It really pops. Upon entering (we were the only customers masked up) the store was actually bustling for early afternoon on a Friday, during the 'off' season. There was only one employee working at the counter, at the time, waiting on all the customers who had come in. She did not greet us, but did finally acknowledge us after it looked like we were seeking some assistance. My husband ordered a hot drink, so she went off to make it. Just after that another employee began to help us. I'm glad she did. She was much more of a people person. Let me just say...if CHICAGO visitors are complaining about the price of goods at this shop then I think it goes without saying. :) All chocolate is sold by weight, so you don't have to buy a full pound. If you want 6 pieces, like we did, staff will weigh the six pieces. Chocolate is a food group in our house. We have and do consume way more chocolate than we should. That being said, my cashew bear claw was really good, but not the best I've ever had. My husband wanted one of their giant peanut butter cups, but didn't give it rave reviews either. The caramel corn he really liked. We left the shop spending just under $40. Pennies compared to some of the other customer reviews. This shop isn't overly unique in my opinion, but if you think Door County is the bees knees you might object. Every resort/touristy town has a candy shop, or three. 5/5 for atmosphere, 4/5 customer service, 3/5 for taste/freshness. Can't speak to expiration dates. Recommend if you're in the area! read more

Amazing fudge! Chocolate and ice cream was great here too. Service was very friendly and they offered samples of the fudge, but no samples for the ice cream. Chocolates were about $32/pound, but that excludes truffles which are $3.50ea. Ice cream scoop in a cake cone is $5.95, but at least the scoop is generous. I really enjoyed the peach cobbler ice cream! Sea salt caramel fudge is the most popular fudge and was fantastic, and the best chocolate I tried was the coconut cream, but the most popular chocolate candy is the best claw which contains peacons, caramel, and a choice of either milk or dark chocolate. This store also makes their own large peanut butter cups, but not the small ones. Besides all the chocolate and ice cream, they also make their own popcorn, chocolate pretzels, and wide assortments of taffy. But don't forget all the classic candies they sell like the candy cigarette classics! read more

A great candy/ice cream/popcorn shop if ever there was one! Good friendly service, excellent product and a nice atmosphere. Do know that they don't price mark the bagged items which is the majority of the home brewed candy. So don't be surprised at the counter when it's more then the average run of the mill grocery store candy. Worth every penny, not to be outdone is the ice cream bar! Don't waste your time. None of the items in the store are price marked, and once you get to the register you realize everything is 4x as expensive as any other store. I understand it is a resort town, but the prices are absolutely crazy. 7.50 for a scoop of ice cream? You can go to Not Licked yet and get a sundae for cheaper. The fudge is also ridiculously priced. My 6 year old daughter was so excited to get a baby bottle candy and we opened it as soon as we got out of the store and it was broken. I tried to go in to exchange it and the lady told me that we couldn't because my daughter probably dropped it and broke it. She also wouldn't return it and was extremely rude as she told me I should have checked it before we bought it which we did but it's hard to see through a wrapper. We had 6 children with us (all over 8) and were told (loudly) that our kids could not touch anything they didn't plan to buy. This place has ALL the candy! I'm talking serious sensory overload. When I walked in, I just smiled. I didn't know where to start, so I just started wandering and kept my head on a swivel, so I wouldn't miss anything even though I'm sure I probably still did. I left there with truffles, a peanut butter cup, and dark chocolate dipped bacon. Some candy is priced individually and some are priced by the pound. They also sell popcorn and Cedar Crest ice cream, but candy is where it's at. A friend in our group bought candied crickets. They were real crickets in a box and they were flavored! I didn't try them because I was sober, and I didn't know the chef who made them. I have SOME standards. Check 'em out! read more

We took the family on a drive today to get everyone out of the house. We ended up in Door County and decided to stop here for a treat. Everyone was super friendly, and the service was wonderful. The ice cream was delicious and really hit the spot. I would've given it five stars if it hadn't been $10 for a double scoop in a waffle cone. Ouch. Although, I guest that's the cost of tourism, especially during a pandemic. Masks are appreciated but not required at this establishment, and we chose to respect their request. read more

On our way home we happened to find this hidden gem! What a delightful stop! The owner really catered to us and was extremely personable. He joined us while we ate ice cream and shared the history of the store. Before leaving he even posed for photos! We purchased candy we haven't seen since childhood. Just before lunch we were talking about how candy stores are best with their choices on display for kids to easily see. And so we Yelped to plan our post-lunch candy run to Door County Candy. Most of their candy is browsable by the younger set and even better is that there's a whole middle aisle of bulk candy. Grab a plastic bag and they are all sorted in their jars but all same price by weight. This includes the taffy of which visitors are invited to sample (don't forget to pickup a taffy guide - so that you remember what flavors you bought, since you can only identify them by the color/design). Our daughter had a great time picking out a candy mix of favorites and those she was interested in trying without risking a whole bag. We also got some chocolate creams too and that had us set for our candy needs for a 5 day Door County trip. read more

Terry is just the friendliest confectioner (if that's a word/career) there is! I love that he encourages his patrons to try the taffy first. Which the peanut butter flavor is amazing, by the way!!!! He gave us generous tasting portions of the fudge which was out of this world!! I ended up going with "Terry's Choice/Coconut Joy" which was kind of like a mix between German chocolate cake and and almond joy. It was pure bliss. My fiance got went with "Abbey's Choice/Chocolate Turtle" and that was stellar as well. Both kinds had great flavor and a good mix of toppings in them. They were open til either 9 or 10pm on the Friday night that we went, so we were able to get our chocolate fix in for the rest of the weekend! We loved this shop! read more

I have no complaints about my visit to Door County Candy. The shop itself was a very cute place to visit and experience. I got a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone and it was comparably priced to other novelty ice cream shops and candy stores. Additionally I purchased two little chocolates and a Lemon Pie Bar. I was entirely surprised by the Lemon Pie Bar. It was really artfully crafted and extremely tasty. Definitely would recommend. If you find yourself in Sturgeon Bay, I would recommend stopping in here, even if it is just to check out the difference kinds of candy they have. read more

Two of the friendliest girls were working and I was scouring the racks looking for gummi cherries requested by my daughter. So I keep going back every year we visit and I think my first trip there was an anomaly. Each experience since has been good. The service has been great and the selection of candy has improved to now have salt water taffy. And it's amazing and authentic taffy. As another reviewer said, time to get rid of the old crabby woman. We came in to buy candy and souvenirs for our nieces. Had picked our candy, and were looking at the toys. Our daughter was in Door county last year. She returned home with many food items for us. All of the items (some from different stores) were either expired, poor tasting, and so over priced. We explained to her that Door County is very touristy, and she was there at the end of the season. Our son just returned from Door County with friends. I told him of our daughter's experience with bringing back items, and asked him not to shop for us. He did anyway. Much like our daughter's experience, the same happened. Some of his purchases came from your store. Included was some "english toffee". It was hard as could be, and had little taste. It definitely was very old candy.
