It can be difficult to find gluten free options and they always deliver good food. However, there definitely seem to have been some changes recently--not sure if it's new management, perhaps multiple factors. I'm excited to see some new additions to the menu, and any period of change is bound to come with some hiccups, but the use of generative AI is a HUGE concern for me. The environmental impact of generative AI is well-known, and that seems to be at odds with the values of Free Range which emphasizes local, fresh food and being more environmentally friendly. However, on my most recent visit, AI-generated merch was available for sale, as well as AI-generated coloring pages for kids. Some of the text on recent social media posts also has hallmarks of AI generation. There are many free coloring pages available online, and it could be really cool to see a collaboration with a local artist for merch designs instead. Free Range Cafe is a place I've always really enjoyed, and their food is still delicious. I want to continue coming here, so I hope that management can take these concerns into consideration as they move in their new direction.

However, it would be a great improvement for the restaurant to take diners following keto or carnivore lifestyles into account by creating standardized, reasonably priced a la carte protein options. It would prevent these kinds of awkward pricing surprises at the register. The atmosphere is great, but clear and fair pricing for simple, diet-specific orders would make a huge difference."

I hold ownership/management responsible for what appears to be a lack of procedures in place. The list of what was wrong last night starts with bang bang sauce for the shrimp that was way to mayonnaise forward. The house made croutons were stale (chewy stale) and the Caesar salad dressing was vinegar forward, like you would use on coleslaw. The Bison burger was overcooked and the fries were cold. The "market price" crab cakes had lots of filler and were cold and the broccoli was overcooked to mush. The cowboy steak was seasoned well but it was overcooked as well and the potatoes were cold. We were afraid to try dessert.
