My husband and I have stopped at the diner a few times on the way to the airport for breakfast. We found the service awful, the waitstaff seem half asleep and the food just ok. Recently we moved to the area and decided to give it a try for lunch. Being vegetarian the menu was a challenge. I settled on the Spanikopita. What a mistake. The Spanikopita looked good but the pastry was oily and over cooked. I had trouble cutting it with a knife. The filling had very little cheese. And what is with the boiled rice and canned tomato sauce. It was tasteless. The broccoli was rubbery. The waitress acted like she would rather be home. My fiancé was not a fan of this place at all. However I found it to be okay. My only gripe is they didn't have any wraps on the menu =/ so I settled with a Gyro. Decent but I wish there was more tomatoes and lettuce in it. The fries were okay. I prefer the thicker ones at diners, and these were on the smaller side. Both our lunches were specials and mine came with a soup. The chicken noodle was pretty good. French Onion soup takes a while to make and ended up coming out only a few minutes before his meal, and my fiancé hates that. All diners seem to do this. They should at least wait until we receive the French Onion before making our entrees. It was a tap bit salty. Also what's with the new trend on chicken tenders NOT coming with fries? Service was okay, however the empty glass thing happened to us too. Didn't ask if we wanted refills. read more

Negative zero overall! Worst food I have ever seen. Waffles were supposed to have strawberries, but all my kid got was frozen prepackaged, un thawed flower in the shape of a waffle & floured water with pink coloring, not a strawberry in sight for an additional $3.00 Plates & cups are 30 years old barely rinsed. Service was unnoticeable as we only saw our waitress when she brought the check. The place is outdated, bathrooms are disgusting. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there. Quintessential diner food. Blue cheese dressing is delicious on an iceberg lettuce salad. Feta and spinach omelet with well done hashbrowns, also delicious. I am leaving 2, because this place has been there for a long time must have the potential to turn it around. Went for lunch and there were very few ppl inside, yet they didn't seem to put any effort into our meals. Bacon obviously had been lying around for a long time, fries were barely cooked, Belgian waffle was undercooked and pancakes were bland. As diner's go, this is one of my favorites, and that's saying a lot considering I'm from NJ - Land of Diners. We drive past Hoosick on our way into Vermont for skiing or going to our cottage in the Summer. Of the three times we have been there, the food and service have been outstanding. I would definitely recommend you try their Greek specialties. I had their Moussaka there recently. It was delicious and filling. I've also had their Spanakopita and my husband had their leg of lamb. Salads and soups are also very good. Our kids can be picky at times, but they always eat well when we go here. Overall: If you're looking for a good middle point to stop between NY and VT, this fits the bill. It's inexpensive, quick and you can get good food with lots of options! read more

After one of those weekends where dozens of my friends from college descend on Troy simultaneously, the process of reconstructing the evening usually happens at breakfast. Breakfast, however, is as disjointed as the alcohol-muddied memories of the night before. Wherever breakfast winds up being, chances are, it will be eaten in shifts. The late shift found eight adults and three small children descending on the Country View Diner in late morning/early afternoon. The parking lot barely had enough room for my tiny car, but ironically, there were plenty of spare tables to push together for our gang. The waitress was worth a star on her own for being so nonchalantly sarcastic with us, but the food was the definition of mediocre. Post-drinking breakfasts need to meet a low standard, and this did, but only just. The hash browns were very nearly flavorless, and i ordered them as extra with my bagel sandwich which came looking lonely, already falling apart onto a big empty plate. Don't get me wrong, we've been eating crummy breakfasts in the Troy area for years (it was five years before we realized that Manory's wasn't even worth a short wait much less an hour, for instance). I have been going to Country View Diner for a very long time and am usually more than satisfied with my experience. Nothing can change the fact that the food and location are great. However, watch what waitress you get. There is a blonde waitress there that seems to constantly get distracted by conversation and doesn't come back to your table until your almost ready to leave once you get your food. I was very disappointed this evening, having recently had dinner there, when my waitress spent 15 minutes (I timed it) talking to another customer loudly at their table about how to eat right, lose weight, what gym to join and went so far as to exchange Facebook contact information; which you can imagine made we other patrons feel really good about ourselves eating greasy burgers and fries. I was here a couple of times when I was an undergrad at RPI and seemed to remember it being decent, so when a dozen of us (now alumni) in various states of hangover wanted to go to brunch on a Sunday we headed here. Positives: We were seated in about 10 minutes even though there was a group of 22 arriving at the same time. The hostess and wait staff were very friendly. My friend even won 4 prizes in the claw game while we were waiting. You can get mimosas after noon. Negatives: It took them a long time to take our orders and then longer to get our food. I'll chalk some of this up to the fact that it was busy. The vegetarian at our table ended up with french fries because they did not have veggie burgers or veggie wraps or apparently, any vegetables not dripping in butter. The homefries were cold and bland and the monte cristo that someone had ordered looked more like french toast with some gravy looking stuff on it. My eggs, toast, and sausage were fine, but that's pretty hard to mess up. Apparently the pancakes were made from cake batter. All in all, it filled a need and really, not many of us had recovered the use of our taste buds yet. If I'm in Troy and in need of sustenance (and Popeye's isn't open yet) I'd probably go there again. read more

Stopped in for lunch today about 12:30. The place was about half full, and seating was immediate. Didn't even get a chance to raid the front end for reading material. Coffee was requested and delivered promptly, a big one for me. The special list looked very ecclectic, with things as varied as pastrami sandwichs, to shrimp strir fry, to goulash. I went with one of the items under the 'Chefs Recomandations' section of the menu, a Monte Cristo. First demerit...my coffee cup was empty about 10 minutes...the waitress noticed it fast, and said she would refill me, but then got distracted and didn't come back with the pot until she dropped off my food. I hate this, because then the coffee is too hot to drink with the food. Sigh. The Monte Cristo threw me for a loop. The menu said it was on challah bread, but it didn't look like braided challah to me...but it was decent thick french toast. The big difference too me was instead of it being a tripple decker sandwhich like I am used too, it was presented open face style, with two piece of french toast on the plate, and real sliced ham and turkey(not cold cuts) on top, with melted swiss. It tasted fine, darn good in fact....just not what I expected. Decor is very dinerish. Lots of chrome, pink and frosted glass...too bad I didn't have my wife with me, she would have dug it. I have only been there once - today - and I cannot exaggerate how much I enjoyed their veggie burger which came with the most flavorful, deLISHous accompaniments; cole slaw, an extra delicious PERFECT pickle slice, and potato salad that almost made me cry it was so good. WOW. Furthermore, the atmosphere is charming and bright. The staff warm and accommodating. I wish I didn't have to give this diner ANY stars! I have been there twice for breakfast, and have been disappointed both times. First visit: food was bland, and hostess was less than hospitable. Ok, after a few months I decided to see if things got better-they didn't! The same hostess brought us to a booth and then couldn't get away fast enough. My sister and I waited nearly 10 minutes for a waitress, while other customers were seated and waited on right away. We decided enough was enough, and left, telling the hostess (who was busy chatting up front) that we would not be back. Poor excuse for a business-customer service is practically non existent. Just happened across this diner this morning. Was really excited by the decor as I'm a total diner junkie. The first thing I noticed was just how clean the place is. As a restaurant professional cleanliness means a lot to me and I was happy to see that this cleanliness carried over to the restroom as well. Our waitress was very prompt and I had a hot cup of coffee and a cold water in a flash....off to a good start. My daughters and I ordered our breakfasts and before we even had a chance to get excited our food had arrived....holy fast! Now almost immediately after the food was delivered one of my sausages hit the floor. I leaned over to pick it up and when I looked up our waitress was already there. I chalked it up as a loss because honestly.... I should have more control over my breakfast meats. In no time though our waitress was there with a new sausage....very nice. I was extremely pleased with the food and the service. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the pancakes were a little tough but by no means were they bad. It is clean, the staff is professional and pleasant the food is as good as diner food goes and it is completely affordable. I have a hot turkey with plentiful gravy, sometimes fries which are of typical french fry size, ( sorry it doesn't measure up to the french fry expert on here) next time I'll bring a calliper and measure the thickness.It comes with a mixed veg or salad which is also plentiful and cranberry sauce. All of this for $10. 1. Yes they have Gyros (they are Greek ya know) if that somehow doesn't suffice as a wrap, well then Chili's is probably the place for you. 2. Honestly you probably need a new fiancee, he sounds like a winner. 3.To the others: You say you stopped a few times on the way to the airport? The food, service, and prices were outstanding. The staff was extremely helpful and did not rush us to make a quick decision from the HUGE menu. We got very large portions of food (could not finish it all). Prices were very reasonable, especially for the service and amount of food that was served. The desserts were outstanding. We did not have room for dessert after out meal, so we asked the waitress to box up our desserts for later, in our motel room. She went the extra mile, along with the owner, to oblige us. We did not have a favorite - although the eclairs rated pretty high. Carrot cake and napoleon were also fabulous. Would definitely recommend stopping at this diner. I ate here a few nights ago. I made the mistake of ordering what my very nice waitress recommended because I wasn't sure what to order on such a large menu. I was told to try the chicken souvlaki. Food came up quick, huge platter was placed in front of me consisting of diced chicken, lettuce, tomato on a pita bread with a side of fries, and a generous side of lettuce tomato onion and cucumber presented as a salad. Flies flew around the diner landing on everything and everyone because they had the door propped open. I ordered a whiskey sour from their menu and all hell broke loose. The entire diner heard about this whiskey sour, ended up telling me they were out of the mix. I ordered a White Russian and the bartender did not disappoint. The problem was the food! The chicken in the pita was very dry and bland Making the sandwich a challenge to enjoy. I told the waitress I'd like something else and that's where things got more weird! I decided to order a Gyro with fries. The host overheard what I was telling my waitress and decided to interrogate me about the chicken sandwich I didn't like. I explained to her the chicken was dry and bland, the entire conversation between the host and I is too much to type but I will tell you it was an intense experience with the host attacking me verbally. I got my gyro with fries and it was good. Although While I was eating..., Patty, the host, interrupted me 5 times continuing to rant on and on about the difference between chicken Souvlaki and a gyro. Very strange experience for a Friday night at 6pm. I heard the Diner bakes fresh cakes and pies so I decided to order chocolate cake to go, It was amazing and very rich! I had to cash out with Patty which was concerning but she did not give me any more grief. Lucky for me I made it out alive and didn't get sick from their food, I say that because I'm looking at other review of this Diner and it looks scary! Would I recommend anyone else eat here?.... If I could give this establishment negative stars, I would. Our day was stressful, my wife needed to eat after a hospital procedure, she didn't eat until the day before. I went here years ago and thought it ok...boy...big mistake now. Place was clean, the ONLY plus I'd give it. We were seated and the waitress, an older woman came over shortly after. She was nice ( and later very apologetic ) but forgetful. Silverware dirty, requested new set, still dirty. Ordered food, she got the sampler platter, I got a philly steak & cheese ( ordered without peppers and onions, no fries asked for potatoes, was not told it came with mushrooms Blech!, received it with mushrooms and she forgot potatoes, no apologies.) My older son got the chicken fingers and fries. Her platter was terrible, worst food she ever ate, did not even finish it. My philly was grizzly and very stringy served on a flour style burger bun, not a sub roll. Potatoes were cold. My sons chicken fingers were not very appetizing either. he fidgets and accidentally spilled his water. The owners brother in law was filling in as bus boy and came over, with terrible impolite english. 'you in way. move.' So he could clean it. My son was not offered a refill on WATER. Holeee cow. It was a nightmare and the waitress was extremely apologetic, not her fault though, mostly. The owner met me at the register and did not say a word. He pointed to my receipt total expecting me to pull out my $ and pay, which I did. We left disgruntled, disgusted and nauseous. We went to a store and she called him to complain, he argued with her even though she was polite as the circumstance would require. He offered our money back and demanded we not return. NO PROBLEM THERE. When we arrived back to the diner a short time later, he had a younger waitress waiting outside with our money. When she asked what happened, and we were explaining, he stormed out with his wife in tow and began arguing with me. He even had the audacity to take a photo of my license plate. I was very annoyed but no where near as hostile as I could have been. He got the last word in by saying, in broken english "I done with you and attitude. You leave do not come back. This place is OK for a quick bite---and who really expects fine dining from a Greek Diner in Troy anyways? We have been there several times since we live in the general region. I find the Greek oriented meals to be MUCH better than the diner stuff altho my husband likes the diner stuff so maybe I'm just yearning for real Middle Eastern food. The service is VERY spotty. We have had waitress' who you want to take home---had a great one on July 4 for a pre-fireworks late lunch---but then the last time--- Husband laid a brand new Android (I mean HOURS old) on the table---well away from any dishes etc. Waitress decided to hand over a dish reaching completely ACROSS both of us---with the two OTHER seats at the table much more accessible and completely open---and rammed into the straw in my tall ice tea glass. Spilled the entire glass over the phone. Naturally DH got a bit peeved esp since she seemed to NOT care that this had happened and walked off! We jumped up and got the owner---an actual Greek guy---and asked for a bowl of uncooked rice to try and salvage the phone with. We did get that and took the thing apart and DH spoke to the owner (who also seemed completely uncaring) about the possibility that the phone would not survive. Guy did agree to pay for it if we could not get it working. The waitress on the other hand NEVER apologized and basically ignored us for the rest of the meal! The rice trick--by the way! does work. Sooo---OK to good food--the garlicky lamb is very good---but staff---hit or miss. We pass by the place all the time and it does seem to have a very respectable number of cars in the lot most times. At this end of Troy there really is nothing else and the next area closer to Albany is scary fast food and a few gems like the South End Tavern. Or you can go East and hit the HOOSICK DINER which is good and has HUGE portions in a real old time American hash house type place.
