Save yourself the trouble and go to Burger King or McDonalds. We live in the area and have been going to this diner for years. Today was the worst meal we have ever had. Our order of onion rings were so greasy i squeezed them and the grease dripped out of them. Even the soda was bad, the pepsi tasted stale and the sierra mist tasted awful too !! And thats the SODA!!! The fries were nothing to write home about, not crispy, like i said fast food ones tasted better. My husband got fried haddock, bottom was greasy and they gave him tartar sauce from a condiment container!! like fast food BBQ. I have been to this diner three times and will never go there again... The first time was for coffee only and the waitress was wonderful, prompt and very sweet. The second time was for a quick evening bite, grilled cheese with bacon...and yup...that's all the plate had on it, a grilled cheese, nothing else... The third and LAST time, after waiting forever for service, (three other tables and three waitresses, it was not a busy nite), I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with some substitutions, I asked for chicken, cheddar, bacon and lettuce...dry..no dressing. We drive Route 7 regularly and have stopped regularly, but today was the end of the relationship. The bathroom smelled when I used it and no soap to wash with. When we were seated we were given water and menus,and for 20 minutes we sat alone with plenty of waitresses sitting around and chatting among themselves. SO WE LEFT!!! No excuse for that. We love diners, and found this one on Yelp while traveling through Troy, NY. We were not disappointed. The place was clean, and we were seated promptly and waited on. I ordered an omelet, which came with rye toast and pan-friend potatoes with diced green/sweet red pepper which gave the potatoes great flavor. My husband ordered a turkey wrap, which came with a generous serving of French fries (not greasy at all!). The turkey was REAL turkey slices, not the processed slices one sometimes gets in a turkey sandwich. His lunch was $7.95 and included dessert as well. So disappointed with their food and service on 3-23-2013. Both my son and I got hamburgs and they were burnt and nearly inedible. The salad dressings were "house style" and tasted like vinegar. $8.55 for absolutely awful buffalo wings. Our appetizers came after our main courses. Stopped here on our way home from Vermont. Sorry we didn't hold out a half mile for McDonald's. A few positives first... our waitress was decent and her service was friendly and fast. The French onion soup was good and burgers ok. Unfortunately the negatives outweighed. For starters the decor was outdated and showed much wear, but overwhelmingly the biggest detraction to the atmosphere were the flies, flies, flies. Clearly no attempts being made to address the problem. Our party of five took shifts swatting while the others ate. I don't think I will be going back. I initially got a bacon egg and cheese sandwich which was not bad. I decided to go back and try a full breakfast. That was a mistake. The waitress was nice, however the kitchen got my order wrong. I'm not picky so I decided to try it anyway. The omelet was bland and had way too much cheese on it. The potatoes were over cooked and also bland. The pancakes were like cement and also bland. Lastly the corn beef hash was grainy and also bland like the rest of the food. Was driving back down to the NYC area after a few days in VT and needed to grab lunch. I don't eat fast food so this looked like a reasonable alternative. I should have gone with the fast food. Place is pretty grungy and worn down. Crud everywhere, torn booths, carpeting that looks like it hasn't even been properly vacuumed in decades, much less cleaned (or better yet, replaced). I ordered a turkey burger which was undercooked and tasted vaguely fishy. Fries were obviously frozen, also undercooked and tasted like rancid Crisco. Dessert came with my meal so I opted for the bread pudding. It was so cold and stale it needed to be cut with a knife. I choked down about two bites before deciding i wasn't worth risking ingesting anymore. Service was actually pretty pleasant and efficient. Stopped here for dinner on my way to Vermont. The food was surprisingly good. I really enjoyed the spinach and cheese pie; the phyllo was crisp and flaky. Drove out of my way last night to visit after hearing decent reviews from friends about this place. Walking in, my friend and I already had eyes on us as if we were going to be a burden eating there. We were sat at a table right away and given water to start. We decided to order pancakes and french toast, which was brought to the table quick enough. The french toast was great, unfortunately I was the one with the pancakes. After trying a few bites of the pancakes, I decided there was an off taste and I wouldn't be finishing them. My friend and I quickly finished off the french toast, and the check was dropped at our table. We expressed our thoughts about the pancakes to the hostess, and asked if we could possibly exchange the plate for another order of french toast to take home. I'm not sure why, but the waitress and hostess both took great offense to us not enjoying the pancakes and proceeded to give us attitude saying we'll be charged for everything no matter what, including the barely touched pancakes. The "best(?)" part of the confrontation was when the waitress stormed off behind the counter saying "Don't EVER come back!", while throwing her hands in the air. Now I've never been a waiter, but that seemed just a little unprofessional and immature of her. Overall, I'd rate the food a 3/10 because the french toast was actually quite good. I'd rate this place a 0/5 if I could though, and won't be returning. If you're looking for a diner that serves mediocre food, while maintaining an atmosphere of rushed guests(or burdens as it seemed), the Country View Diner is the place for you. Went here with 6 people after not being here for over a year. Don't normally have too much too eat as have been on a diet for the past year. Decided to splurge and have the pancake deluxe. The pancake's were cold and tasted like cake mix instead of pancake mix (bad), the syrup had no taste & seemed to be watered down (perhaps too much). Their bacon did not taste like bacon but something that may have been rancid prior to cooking. Terrible, terrible bacon. Their sausage was very good & tasty (big links). My toast was late in arriving & good but my son's did not even look anywhere near toasted. Our eggs were cooked perfectly over easy. My son's omelette was great and so were his homefries. All in all, my wife's meal and mine were very disappointing. We used to come here often but they seem to have taken a turn for the worse. If we decide to come back, we will stick with the usual omellete and homefries for which they do very well. read more

My wife, son (10), daughter (16) and I dined there for lunch on Sunday, as the Plum Blossom was not yet open. The full parking lot indicated a modicum of quality, but we were misled. A table of nine, which was seated after we had ordered, all received their food before we did. I am not exaggerating, a table of NINE. My son has ADHD and the amount of time we waited for waffles, an omelette, some liver, and fish was almost unbearable to my son (let alone the rest of us). They overcharged us for the omelette and the fish and I had to show the waitress and the cashier that there is a "onion and choice of cheese" omelette on their menu, so no, they shouldn't have charged me more for ordering it with swiss. Neither the waitress nor the cashier apologized for the error, but they did recalculate my bill correctly. My wife's potato was steaming hot, but everything else was luke warm to almost room temperature by the time it arrived. The waitress was nice, but again, didn't apologize for the mistakes on the bill, the length of our wait, or the temperature of our meals. Overall a very bad experience. We will not eat there again and will share our mistreatment with others. Apparently, all of the cars are locals who get much better treatment. read more
