Vegetable plate. (I know baked macaroni and cheese is t a vegetable, lol)
    David V.

I've eaten here many times. It's a very good home cooking restaurant. I enjoy their chicken livers, fried pork chops, and chicken and dressing. This plate however was on the lighter side. The baked macaroni was really good. The star of this this plate is absolutely the fried okra. It's light and crispy with a cornmeal crust. It's outstanding! The white beans are also well seasoned. The service is always great here, as they split tips and want to do well, so you just ask any server for anything you need. It's hard to have a favorite server as they all are good. The restaurant is always busy with plenty of locals and men and women working close by. It's not always quiet, but it is always just good people enjoying good food. You won't be disappointed. They have a plethora of desserts to try if you can fit it in after the lunch. A regular lunch will average around $13-$18 but it is so worth it. I've paid $13 for a so-so meal at a burger chain. This is way better.

    Coconut cream pie!

"Man, it feels good to be country again," at least that's how Thomas Rhett put it, but you'll totally feel like you've "gone country" when you step into this southern restaurant in Ooltewah, just outside of Chattanooga. It's a favorite of the locals, so that means more than you know, because Tennessee folk know when the sweet tea and n roasted chicken are made right. They sure do it all right at Countryside. They have an amazing daily selection of side dishes, along with main courses and specials of the day to select from, but my go-to favorite is then roasted chicken, the sweet potatoes, sliced up and sauced up, and the black eyed peas. Save room for dessert, because the coconut cream pie will have you thinking your grandma was hiding in the back, whipping up that perfectly flaky pie crust and sky high meringue topping, just for you! Mmmm, so good! Now that you know, you better go!

There catering service they have a wonderful me and you from seafood to home-cooked meals deserts and do events.

My wife and I tend to share an appetizer and a main most times when we dine out. We started out with the stuffed piquillo peppers and they did not disappoint! If you are a fan of goat cheese you will love these too. The sweetness of the pepper with the tang of balsamic coupled with the smooth taste of the goat cheese is almost to die for! We then shared the Pimento burger with fries and those too were outstanding! The burger is not overwhelmingly big, but big enough for two to share. The fries were absolutely delish! The service was good as well. I don't remember anything over-the-top outstanding but these days, decent service might actually qualify as over-the-top relative to what you see at most establishments! (so sad) Definitely worth a try if you are in the Chattanooga area.

Now, the place had more noise than a family reunion after someone mentions politics--two teenage softball teams carrying on, laughing, living large. Hard to fault that. Better than silence so thick you can hear your own regrets. Food showed up quick, which is about all you can ask when you're hungry enough to consider eating the menu. And it was good--honest good. Not "tell your mama about it" good, but solid, dependable, "yep, I'd order that again" good. Prices didn't make you feel like you'd just financed somebody's boat, either. Beer was cold--like it ought to be, like it better be--and the waitress understood to be there exactly when we needed her and vanishing when we didn't. That's an art form. Now the atmosphere... well, it had all the charm of a place that once had big decorating plans and then decided, "Eh, this'll do." A little on the bare side. Felt like a Friday night that never quite got dressed up. But I'll tell you this--I'd go back. And that, right there, is about the highest praise you can give a place without writing a love letter to the chef.

So we arrive just about 15 minutes early but were immediately seated. It was a bit confusing about where the host stand is since there are two entrances... but no problem because the owner was at the bar to greet us. The customer service is top tier! The venue is beautiful! But the food ... left something to be desired. I ordered the pot roast based on recommendations from the waiter. He also recommended the greens over the green beans. I also added a side of mashed potatoes and fried corn. So first, the plate came out messy (see pic). It would have only taken a second to wipe off the edge of the plate. Then the pot was appeared shredded and covered in thyme and rosemary. Both over powered the meat. I'm wondering if I had the last piece and they covered things up with the extra seasoning from the bottom. My friend also ordered the pot roast and although hers was also chopped, she did not have as much thyme and rosemary- although she complained that it was too much. Next the greens tasted unseasoned and undercooked. The fried corn was not fried but were kernels of sweet corn in some type of cornstarch slurry - awful! The mashed potatoes are boxed but edible however the white gravy was not good. I missed on the menu that the gravy is white - it should be brown. Finally, we received a piece of cornbread- it was very dense but sweet. My friends liked it but I did not. My friends had a mix of feelings from "it was good" to "just ok but I won't take my left overs home." Needless to say I also did not take my left overs home. One saving grace about the meal was the fruit tea! It was delicious! I also ordered two chocolate covered strawberries for dessert and I wished I ordered more! Since it was four friends birthday- the singer (yes there was live music) called out their names and sang a rendition of "Happy Birthday". This same singer had the room up and dancing on several song! She did a wonderful job. Plus the restaurant provided a free dessert to each of the four birthday friends! They all enjoyed their desserts! So the verdict... the venue is beautiful and a vibe for a Saturday night but unfortunately I won't return for the good. There are much better spots for soul food at much cheaper price point!

What initially brought us in this day was that we saw their anniversary special advertised, the $5 Big Dad Special (a hard to beat deal, and side note, happy 22 years to Shane's Rib Shack!). There were no substitutions allowed, and since we wanted their delicious sides, we opted for their pork plate with fried okra and potato salad ($10). This plate was large enough for the two of us to share, and we happily did. Just as the first time the hubby had their catered BBQ, in-house did not disappoint either. Everything was delicious! Their ranch sauce was on point for the fried okra, too. Sweet tea was as desired, and the peach cobbler is perhaps the best peach cobbler we've enjoyed to date. Service was friendly, the facility was clean, and there's dog friendly patio seating available as well. Great first visit, and we see more Shane's Rib Shack in our futures.

Shane's hit the spot. I chose the pulled pork and it was a good portion. Quite moist and plenty of it, I did have to put a bit of the "original" sauce on their to get the real meat flavor out of it. With that, it was great. For sides, the cole slaw was great. Crisp and not wet with mayo, there were a few bigger pieces of cabbage. This isn't fine chopped slaw and it isn't thin floss. There's some bit to this. The green beans had a great flavor but were beyond mushy. No crispness to them at all, I think perhaps these had been cooked/heated some time earlier in the day. Overall, a good meal at a good price point. [Review 18847 overall - 370 in Tennessee - 2370 of 2022.]

There's plenty of parking nearby so you don't have to walk far. This neat beer bar reminds me of the crowler shops that you used to find around Atlanta, with around 30 taps containing about a thrid local beer, so you can sample several local breweries without visiting each one (they're mostly not too near each other so this is very convenient). The taproom "beertender" seemed to be fairly knowledgeable regarding the various offerings - there's also a convenient list highlighting the different beers with style notes. We sat at the bar and were able to bring in some food from the nearby restaurants (I grabbed some wings at the nearby Marthie Ann's which were excellent). To drink I tried Hoptown's own Orange Mango Wheat - a somewhat basic wheat beer with hings of sweet tangerine and mango - nothing special. I had a Maine Brewing "Lunch" with the wings which is always a winner - it's an exceptional New England IPA. Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.
