First experience with Gurnee office, was not that great. Dentist looked very unprofessional and had dirty shoes. Now, my husband works in construction and his shoes were cleaner than this dentist. Not to sound picky but the charges aren't cheap and I expect to get what I'm paying for. Nice doctor, dirty shoes, fine I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Took my daughter to get a filling done and the nitrous wasn't working. Was not told in advance until she's sitting in the chair. We were already there and my daughter was comfortable continuing with her filling without the gas. Fast forward to now and the Gurnee office closed down, go figure. So we transferred to their Vernon office. Should have switch offices by this time but I didn't because all their records were already there and I wanted to give this other dentist a try. We continued going here until we had an appointment scheduled and they called to cancel it 30 minutes before the visit because their assistant was sick. I understood, things happen, right. I told them I would call back to reschedule because I was already driving there and couldn't look at my schedule. Unfortunately I missed work because they do treatment early in the day, ok I get it. I called back to schedule and left a voicemail. No one called me back for two days. I called back again and nothing. I should have gave up here but I didn't. Finally after the third call they finally answered and scheduled her back in. Well, here we go again, I missed work for this appointment and I get a call 30 minutes before her visit AGAIN and they tell me the same thing, the assistant is sick? At this point yes, it was enough. This is my first review because I don't like complaining and give people chances but this office is very inconsiderate of peoples schedules and does not care about their patients which are KIDS. Now it's neglect and no care for the well being of their patients. At this point, I blame the dentist working here because they are the "doctors" and should have competent people that can work and run an office so they can have work themselves. The girls working there should get FIRED for not responding to messages, calling off apparently last minute. I asked for my records and never got the form to send for release. I called back and they finally sent it. Only to get no records sent in return which would have nice to have had since I was able to get in somewhere elsewhere an hour later. These people do not care and it will be a matter of time before this place shuts down too. Worst experience and waste of time.

Dr. Scholtz's office manager squeezed us in quickly because my daughter needed to start gaining weight and start nursing more effectively. The office manager also worked with me and my husband to design a payment plan that worked for us. Dr. Scholtz spent a lot of time explaining the procedure to my husband and I, and she stayed very calm and moved swiftly through the procedure as my baby was crying hysterically. She let me hold my baby through the procedure, which I deeply appreciated. She comforted my baby, and it was obvious that she was compassionate and cared for our family. She spent a lot of time with us after the procedure making sure my daughter's latch was improved, explaining post-OP care, and I just felt like she was enjoying talking to us about our baby. She was not in a hurry, and she told me to stay in the exam room and nurse my daughter for as long as I wanted, even though I knew that I was the last patient of the day. None of the staff were rushing me out the door; they were relaxed and friendly. I will recommend this doctor and this office to everyone who needs a pediatric dentist or a tongue tie procedure. In September 2023, my daughter had a permanent wire retainer placed on both her top and bottom teeth. However, last Wednesday, while eating lunch, the permanent retainer came off in one piece, and she accidentally swallowed the estimated 1.5-inch wire. Panicked, I immediately called the office to ask if they had ever encountered this situation before. The woman who answered the phone said no--which was not at all reassuring--and put me on hold to consult with the doctors. Their advice was to visit the emergency department for an X-ray. What followed was a stressful and exhausting ordeal: three long nights and four days at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago as we monitored the wire's movement to ensure it passed safely. Thankfully, the wire eventually moved to a safe zone, and we were able to take her home. What's most shocking and disappointing is that throughout this entire ordeal, no one from Forest Ortho called to check on her or follow up in any way. To add insult to injury, my 16-year-old--still determined to maintain straight teeth--went back this Wednesday to replace the retainer. However, they wanted to charge us $350 for the replacement wire! For something that was supposed to last years, having it come out in less than three is unacceptable and suggests poor placement. I've spoken with multiple people who agree that this situation was handled poorly and could have been avoided. I expected far more from Forest Ortho, both in terms of the quality of care and their responsiveness to a serious issue like this.

He's also an asthma kid whose inhalers were creating more issues. At that time, they set up multiple appointments and did fillings without insisting on sedation or even gas. Fast forward to now and all has changed. We started having problems after starting ortho last fall. No issues with Dr. Wally as of yet. He seems fine, but we asked to skip x-rays during one cleaning visit because my son had a ton of them just a few months before for ortho. They refused to see him and we had to reschedule his cleaning. When they convinced us to come back and agree to X-rays because we couldn't move forward with ortho until we did, they found a couple of small cavities that were visible. We agreed to get them fixed, and set up an appointment, but they automatically added nitrous to the plan. I let them know I wasn't comfortable with the gas and that it seems overkill for a 10 year old that sits just fine for procedures. The doctor wouldn't make any promises on not requiring sedation (IV or gas). So, now we are taking my son to my dentist who will no doubt fill those tiny cavities with a bit of numbing. I am not sure why they insist on the excessive treatment that creates greater risk other than profits and possibly making the job extra easy on them, but it is absurd. They even admitted that other countries don't do as many x-rays when I brought it up. The drugs too are no joke, and at least the nitrous was not covered by insurance. I wish we hadn't started ortho here and they are quick to remind us that there are no refunds. In general another example of all that is wrong and broken in our healthcare system.

This is AFTER being told by another receptionist that they would be emailed hours prior to. No call was made to notify me they were holding records. I had to call the office and ask why the records were not sent. Frustrating all around.

I am super appreciative of the fact that he never over exaggerated my cavities like other dentists. As soon as I became an adult, the adult dentist tried to tell me I had eleven "cavities". I'm glad I stuck to my guns and was skeptical. Ten years later my teeth are still exceptional, but would have been worse if someone forced cavity treatment upon me as a kid.
