Maple bars for the win!!! Countryside is my go to for donuts for all my kids sports teams over the last few years. I stopped by this morning and casually mentioned that it was for my son's soccer team who adores her maple bars... And in addition to my 18 choices, the super kind grandma sent me off with an extra box of donuts! I declined several times but she insisted. First of all, I don't blame the lady for wanting our indecisive asses out of there. She gets up at 4 am everyday !!! I repeat FOUR FREAKING AM!!! It's like 20 degrees in the morning .... I wouldn't. & this part...... she stays open until 5pm. Every now and then she is kind & throws in a donut on the House. It doesn't go unnoticed. I've said it a million times it's something about a genuine person that can do wonders. She has had the business for many many many many years & remember the customers that come in. So sweet ! Man, we really need to stop seemingly harmless "walks" around the neighborhood. We didn't even go out for donuts, but we saw the sign and were intrigued. The sign when we walked in did say cash and check only, so I'm not sure if their machine was just broken for the day or if it's always like this. So I would bring cash just to be safe. But at .85 a donut I was totally willing to walk to BECU and back to try some. 100% worth it! Light and airy, but still really good with thick icing for our chocolate and maple bars. Been coming here for years. It's the only reason I keep cash on hand since it's cash only:) Delicious donuts, especially the buttermilk which is something I've only had or seen here. Owners are always friendly and prices can't be beat. They'll often drop an extra donut in for the kids. Only negative is from my husband who likes apple fritters but says theirs are not his favorite-a little too heavy. This was an unexpected find in an early Sunday morning hunt for a quick breakfast. The shop is located behind the Sherwin-Williams store right in the heart of downtown Bothell. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by an array of freshly made donuts ranging from a simple sugar dipped to the more intricate chocolate glazed with filling. I did notice the lack of debit/card payment system, which led me to believe they are strictly cash (and possibly checks) only establishment. The sign "0 trans fat" was a welcoming tidbit of information. I ordered a maple bar and bavarian creme filled donut. Both were delicious and filling. The dough was light and the bavarian creme filling tasted as if it was produced in a small batch. The service was immediate and with a smile. I highly recommend trying this donut shop. I had a Bavarian Cream doughnut and it was so good it brought tears to my eyes. Bavarian cream has been my favorite since I was a kid, but at most places they aren't very good. The outside of the donuts was crisp and crunchy on the, but soft and tender on the inside. The cream filling oozed from the middle and was vanilla goodness. Wow! These donuts are amazing! Don't let the exterior strip mall location deceive you. I was almost deceived! I was with my 15yr old daughter after a long bike ride on the trail we decided to rest and explore the area. We spotted this donut shop and decided to stop by. Oh man! We are so happy we did! Interior/exterior did not look amazing. Sunday 1:30pm empty customer and not many selections of donuts left since closing is eminent. My daughter said just get 2 donuts- one for me and you. I did what she said and left with 2. It was such a sunny gorgeous day so we decided to eat our donuts on the bench along the sidewalk. I devoured my donut so fast it's crazy!! My daughter stated, "omg mom! " That's right- I went right back in and got a dozen to take home and shared. You can keep your high-priced fancy donuts in the downtown areas, I like supporting local businesses that are providing consistent quality products at a good price. I wish countryside did allow credit cards, just for when I'm doing business meetings and buying a couple dozen donuts. Came to try their doughnuts out as it's a once a month treat with my daughter after her pre-k and to my surprise their doughnut was so good, old fashioned fluffy fresh and doughy! I honestly never cared for old fashioned doughnuts until this place this morning, hands down delicious! I got Bismarck, maple bar and raspberry filled clear glazed, all were great and my daughter loved all 3 of them as we shared them! Price is right for the selection as Bismarck itself is usually $1.50 to $2.50 a piece elsewhere, I paid $2.50 for all 3 here, very satisfied! This hole in the wall (pun intended) is the jewel in downtown Bothell. Can't wait for the downtown Bothell construction is completed so more foot traffic can bring in more business.
