They make a lot of great testing sweet treats! Stop by, and you won't be disappointed by their selection or the treats. I think they are better donut makers than the major chains in this area. Been coming here for years and years; I have never been disappointed with the food or service. I arrived at Countryside Donut House in Kirkland around 10:40 a.m. today, Thursday 7 December 2023, and found the donuts going going gone quickly. Fortunately, they had what I had hoped for, buttermilk bar donuts. I decided to go with two, which came to a total of $4.40. The worker who helped me was friendly and eager to engage in conversation. The donuts were a moderate density for buttermilk donuts. The exterior of each was crisp and the glaze applied in a thin layer. The sweetness of the glaze was not overpowering. I found the two donuts to be a perfectly satisfying quantity as they were on the smaller side. read more

Get here early!! This place sells out fast and to tell ya the truth, I can see why. It's a simple donut shop with the look and feel of stepping back in time. There is nothing fancy about the place but the sweet treats inside and where it's at! Our options were limited getting there around 9:30am, but I did try the donut holes - always a favorite, light and airy, and not too sweet. You're in luck because they do take debit/credit cards, I feared it would be cash only. This place sure does have it regulars and it was nice visiting on a Saturday morning seeing the place thriving! read more

Excellent donuts. Highly recommend the Buttermilk donuts. The prices are really reasonable. These donuts are better than Top Pot, Krispy Kreme, or Mighty-O. Get there early and have a great snack for the day. I will admit the shop could use a facelift but don't let that stop you from coming in. read more

I cam here super early because I heard this place run out of stuff pretty fast. The place is small and they only allow one person in at a time due to covid-19 which is nice. When it was my turn, I went in to look at the selections. The price was a little hard to read so I just let the owner do his thing. I ended up getting Buttermilk bar - small, subtle crunch, good flavor Apple fritter- looks flat but crispy and have apple chunks in there, one of my favorite Regular donut with coconut - standard Maple bar - light good Donut holes - super light and fluffy Lemon jelly donut - standard Ham and cheese pastry - pretty good, nice balance in flavor Overall, it was a decent donut place. However, the price is on the higher end. All of it was around $15 which means $2 / donut. not sure how that added up...The other critique was that the size of the donut was inconsistent. If you get unlucky, you can get a pretty small donut compare to another person and pay for the same price. read more

I'm giving a donut shop 5 stars even though I only sample 4 varieties. And I mean it! I'm not a huge donut fan, but I do know my pastries. Because many/most hardcore donut shops close by 1pm including Countryside, I'm left with grocery store or Top Pot donuts. Pass on both. I've literally bitten into a Safeway donut in the past, spit it out, and threw the rest away. Putrid. Taste/Texture My hubby bit into the Bravarian Custard filled and was immediately gushing about how good it is - lots of filling, soft tender donut, great chocolate top. He normally doesn't like cake donuts (ref Top Pot, why do people like them??), but he really wanted a second so he ate that too. Again, immediately he said it's so good, super fresh, soft and delicious. I had the twist and that was pillowy goodness that melts in your mouth. I still have the chocolate old fashion to enjoy. Cost I thought it was very reasonable. A cake donut was $1.29 and the custard filled was $1.89. The total for 4 donuts were $6.08 after tax. I'm used to high end pastry prices at nearly $4 for a croissant. This is a great deal in comparison. The owner was very nice, mask on, gloves on. One door to enter, the other door to exit. One way customer traffic flow. Go early. They often sell out early and just close shop for the day. read more

I only didn't give Countryside 5 stars on my last visit because I'd hate to say this place is so amazing that you'd go out if your way to get here, only to find a hole in the wall donut shop with not as much stock or variety as a chain store may have. Also, coffee is basic, but IMHO, you don't need specialty coffee with donuts. But, gosh, the donuts at this place are just so yummy, and the owner is a good guy. He's been here since '84, I think he said. You don't last that long without at least a die hard following and some super well-liked donuts. He's part of old-school Kirkland, as my mind sees it. Even when we lived here for a decade, I never once cane in and saw anyone else working. We're here on a visit, the first in at least 5 years, from the east coast. Definitely made a point to come here, and I'm so glad I did. The maple bars are exactly as I remember them, or better... soft, fresh and delicious. I sent a pic of my daughter enjoying one and he responded that he thinks the donuts at Countryside are the reason he doesn't like most other donuts! I love walking down the block to Countryside Donut House for a delicious, weekend donut! My go-to is a white sprinkle and a glazed and my wife loves the chocolate bars. The owner Mike is always there and although he is a man of few words, he is always friendly. What I appreciate most (other than the very tasty donuts) is that you can tell this shop is a beloved, local establishment. On the walls there are photos that show folks taking donuts around the globe, Christmas and graduation cards, and stickers from all across the US. These people love Countryside Donut House and you don't get that personality from a chain or grocery store. So next time you want a sweet treat, swing by Countryside Donut House. 2.5/5 Apple Fritter. A thin style fritter with a decent crispness on the outside edges but it tasted burnt. The center was of a good consistency and did not have the strong burnt flavor. Some Apple pieces but not a ton, though it is common on the thin style fritters to be light on fruit. Don't bother the guy working 5/22/22 certainly couldn't. For the entire almost transaction he stayed glued to his phone. I asked how many more donuts I needed to pick for a dozen- a grunt in reply. The I asked about glazed donuts and he shoved the box towards me. Needless to say I turned and walked out. I realize this is a digital world- but have the common courtesy to wait on the customer in front of you without a phone in your hand and watching a video playing loudly. We've been coming to Mike's shop since I was a little kid. What started out as a reward for good behavior turned into a family favorite! I have yet to find a better donut that those here at what my family and I fondly refer to as 'The Donut Man's Shop.' If you're looking for fresh, light and beautifully flavored morning pastries, this is the place to go- but you'll have to get there early as he runs out quickly (a good testament to how much the community enjoys them, if you ask me!). The owner is very kind and provides great service- at this point he knows the whole family and, while he's not much for many words, always remembers us and asks about what's new and how we're doing. I like to share this anecdote from years ago about the kind of business Mike runs: when we were quite a bit younger, my little brother had left his Kindle at his shop right before Lent (which means we didn't come by for sweets for well over a month). Some time later, I happened by the shop before work and Mike immediately pulled out the Kindle (which we had thought was long lost) saying that he had held onto it until we returned. He said he knew we had given up pastries for Lent, but it was well past that- where had we been, and was everything well with us! There is an elderly group who loyally sit and enjoy what seems like every morning at the shop- I often see Mike helping them in and out of cars and joining in their conversations. While the coffee isn't anything to write home about, I can't emphasize enough how great these donuts are. If you get the chance to go extra early, be sure to grab one of his breakfast sandwiches (they're the first to run out), paired with a maple bar or (and) a twisted glazed donut. However, regardless of which one you pick- it's bound to be a winner to start off your day. I could go on, but you get the point. I came in for donuts after a dentist apt. (sorry!) and this place was like a time warp. Nearly every table was filled with "old-time regulars" eating donuts and drinking coffee, chatting and reading the news. The interior doesn't look like it's change since the 80's with customer's pictures adorning the walls. The donuts selection is pretty standard. You'll find your basic bars, cake, old fashioned and bear claws. The flavors are basic, but the donuts are good. I wouldn't go out of my way, but I'll stop back after my next dentist apt. read more

It seems like this place might not be very covid friendly with a lot of elderly folks who were hanging out in tables next to one another. They were wearing masks but still not really social distancing. Never actually got any donuts, ended up walking out before I could place an order. Walked in wanting to buy a couple dozen doughnuts to take to the office and was the only customer in the shop at about 6:20 am. Tried to get the attention of the employee who was working in back but got no response, stood there for 5 minutes waiting to place an order. Eventually another customer walked in, this time a young Asian male and the employee immediately dropped what he was doing and came to take this customers order continuing to ignore me even though I had already been there waiting to place an order. I guess it's a good shop if you look enough like the employee to grab their attention. Ended up just walking out and won't return. My mom started taking me here when I was 10 years old, it was our special treat to go here. I started the same tradition with my son who is now nearly 20. This is the only donut place he likes, every other place he says "these aren't good like Countryside". The gentleman running it is so sweet and friendly, always remembers us and if I come without my son he asks how he is. I always sell lots of people hanging out for morning coffee and donuts, makes me happy that it feels so comfortable and inviting. And yes, there is a regular group of retirees that congregate here for coffee and doughnuts. One guy (the owner) does everything at this place and he can count all his vacation days he's taken the past 30 years on his two hands. I don't go to this place to hang out or participate in small-talk about the weather. I go to this place for one thing, and one thing only. The best doughnuts I've ever had. And, it's not just me.
