This place is clean and the front desk people were very nice. The Dr Kaptan was nice but a fast talker and I believe not fair or honest. Most places only charge between 100.00 to 700.00 for dog to be spaded. They charged 2000.00 and said the dog would not have lived if I didn't get it done now. Over the course of a month I was unfortunate enough to have had to make three separate visits to the County Animal Hospital. Two of these visits were made, on the same day I called, for emergency visits. I so very much appreciate the flexible and late hours offered by the County Animal Hospital. For the first time in his life, Charlie was experiencing frightening urinary symptoms that completely caught me off guard. This made me a scared and panicky mess when I first arrived for my visit with Dr. Kaptan. His calm and decisive demeanor while examining Charlie instantly reassured me. At once, I knew I was in the right place. The doctor quickly ran blood work, took an x-ray, and performed a tricky ultrasound to recover a urine sample. I was very impressed that, in just a few short minutes, the results were available for all of these tests. Dr. Kaptan carefully explained Charlie's treatment plan, answered all of my questions, and explained every line of the bill. I was sent home not only with peace of mind, but also with everything I needed to care for Charlie, including special food and his pain medication. A week later, I once again had to bring Charlie for urinary symptoms and I also had to bring my other cat, Rosie, for respiratory distress. Dr. Kaptan took great care in determining the best course of action. He then promptly administered vital medications that I believe helped save both of my cat's lives, especially Rosie. I can never adequately express how thankful I am for his care. Rosie and Charlie are a big part of my family and I love them both dearly. Through my experiences, I observed just how compassionate Dr. Kaptan is with his patients, and I truly believe he cares about their outcomes. Along with his attentive and caring staff, I would highly recommend any concerned animal owner to the care of County Animal Hospital. I also sincerely appreciate that they have very reasonable prices and make an effort to limit unnecessary expenditures. Thank you for doing all you can to reduce the stress involved in my visit, especially your efforts to have short wait times before appointments. I am very disappointed in the veterinary and grooming services. 1) NOT "fear-free" as marketed. I came for the "fear-free" grooming, however the groomer did not seem interested in honoring that commitment. She encouraged the idea that my anxiety-ridden dog exhibit "learned helplessness," which is probably what happened. After the daylong session, my dog was non-responsive to well-established cues/commands and peed inside the house (that hasn't happened since we potty-trained her in October, 2019). 2) They ADMINISTERED two DRUGS WITHOUT my knowledge or CONSENT. The groomer said my dog might have a hematoma, which could become serious if left untreated. Our normal vet was unavailable, so I agreed to let the vet at County Animal Hospital exam her. She was diagnosed with an ear infection. After treatment, the frequency of her head-shaking increased significantly. Looking at independent sources online, it appears that to dispense Claro Otic solution properly, the vet should have performed a cytology exam, however that was not done. In fact, they required she get a booster vaccination for bordetella, and vaccines can cause an interaction. It's also not recommended for young dogs. Mine is still a puppy. I have two dogs, a Boxer and a Manchester Terrier. They both see Dr.Kaptan and they love him. Yesterday, I needed to have my Boxer looked at for an eye problem. The team at County Animal got me in to my dog to be looked at last night. I love the doctors, the vet techs and the office staff. You can tell they all love animals. Called about having my cat euthanized l. Cat was a rescue my grandmother adopted years ago. She passed and I took the cat so it wouldn't go to the shelter. By the whey I am a animal lover I already have a dog a cat and several fish and whole heartedly love animals. So sid my cat had been having seizers for a couple of months and every one I talked to said it was time to put him down. My son was devastated but I started calling around. The lady at the clinic was the rudest person I've ever talked to she acted like I wanted the cat to die she wanted all these tests and all this money . She obviously didn't care about the cat she wanted all these tests done on a 15 Yr old cat. We were introduced to County through friends and the Midwest Boston Terrier rescue who we found our Boston, Marco, through. These people are OUTSTANDING. I always feel they truly and personally care of my Dog... and everyone who comes in they treat the same. Today was Connors annual visit so he was in for update on all his vaccinations, thorough check out and this past week he developed a swollen area under one eye which needed some attention. All his shots are up-to-date and I have antibiotics for the swelling and I came away feeling confident in the care Connor got. It seems that due to Covid some Veterinarians are taking advantage of at least new customers. I had planned a dental with another Vet who was going to take a lump off during that dental, but after waiting 3 or more weeks, another small lump had started, and they wouldn't take it off at the same time. My dog is 13 and right now her blood work is good, but might not be by age 14 after it grows larger. So I wanted to find another Vet to do the surgery. I explained this at the time, and told the lady at their front desk that my dog has an abscessed tooth, so needed it done ASAP. Since I was new there, she said she would talk to the Doctor about it, and returned to the phone to give me an appointment to be seen that same day. I kept the appointment, and my dog was looked at briefly (as mentioned by the Dr. when he came out to talk to me). He told me how wonderful their clinic is, and then went on to say that he wouldn't remove the second lump at the same time as he knew the dental would take 4-1/2 hours, and that he was booked up for 3 weeks, then he quoted me a price of $2,000. I told him that was too much money for me, and then he told me his viewing my dog's mouth meant I'd have to pay $50 for the visit that day, which I did. Here's my complaint on this Dr. Kaptan: He knew the dental needed to be done soon as an abscessed tooth was involved. So why did he even agree to see me knowing that there was no way of him taking my dog in the time frame of her need? Well I can tell you why: He knew it would be a quick $50 in his pocket. He was smiling all the time he was telling me what he could (or rather couldn't) do. I sat there a minute and wondered what the two people were paying who were there to pick up their animals. You might wonder that too, as you think about trying that Vet Clinic out for your dog. What he did seems a big unethical (and even dishonest) to me, but I'll let you be the judge. read more

My parents have been taking our family's pets to see Dr. Gary Smith for 20+ years. Dr. Smith was the first person/vet I thought of and wanted my cat to see when she broke 3 bones in her foot. I ended up bringing her from NC to see him and the laser treatment they used saved her foot from amputation. He is the most knowledgeable, kind and trusting vet I know. I have been bringing my cats since 2007 to this hospital. and received very good care until recently. The two vets that have administered care to my cats have been excellent. Five weeks ago I took my cat to a groomer (not county) and a large tumor was discovered on her left hip. It has been diagnosed as cancer.by my vet and also a specialist. On a recent visit, a technician was to take my cat's temperature knowing, of course about the tumor which is close to the rectum. The vet was out of the room at that time and the tech jammed the thermomiter (spelling?) into the rectum causing unbelievable pain and then did not cease her administering of it cuasing my cat the worse pain I have ever witnessed in an animal. I was so stunned and frightened, I simply did not know what to do at that moment. It still haunts me and I can't forget it. Later, the vet took her temp again, the correct way. The tech did not apologize and I have requested that she never assist with any pet I bring to them for care. I question the technican's experience and training and hope she is given more extensive training on this. No one should accept this type of treatment from a animal hospital staff. read more

I have gone here for years,but about a month ago I took my dog for a very bad ear infection caused by allergies.The office visit and meds were over $100.00. The DR. had told me that my dog may have to have another course of meds. When I called to explain that I needed a refill on the ear meds , as my dog was still not better,they would not give me more unless I came in for another office visit . My dog had already had cultures and they knew it was caused by allergies, when i told them that I could not afford another office visit they still refused.WHY I asked ,and they said that I hadn't been there in a few years before the earinfection.??? In my opinion they cared more about making the money than helping my dog! Last week my daughter took her 2 dogs for check ups and shots , she walked out paying over $700.00. So if you have money to burn you should go here, and if you don't, there are many more vets that don't charge so much, and that actually do care about your pet. read more
