Looking down the side of the glass, you can clearly see every imperfection. I have been a customer of Metro Glass for over 20 years, but in the last 5-6 years the quality has gone downhill dramatically. Nearly every order I've placed has had something wrong--pieces cut too large, measurements not matching the specs I provided, and poor finishing work. This latest order was especially disappointing. There was an oily residue along the edge of the glass that smeared when wiped away, leaving the edge looking cloudy. When I asked about it, I was told it was because the edges are "hand ground." To me, it looks more like outdated work from the 1950s than the quality I used to expect. Out of frustration, I reordered the exact same piece of glass from Kirkwood, and the difference was night and day. The edge was clean, clear, and perfectly straight--the way it should have been the first time. After years of loyalty, I can honestly say the craftsmanship and attention to detail at Metro Glass are no longer there.

The side bevel is slightly different but probably only I will notice. The value of my antique may be diminished but at least I can enjoy it. I wonder if I could have ordered it from someone myself and cut out the middle man? 50% payment is due up front and they take credit cards, no fee. I had to call and ask about it several times but I did get it and I'm happy.

Another "Mills Window and Siding" company is registered with a fictious name located at 5355 Hagemann Crossing, Sunset Hills, MO 63128. I recently met with a rep from Mills Window and Door after getting a coupon in the mail. I was told the 40% coupon for siding would be from the "suggested manufacture price" and ultimately the bid would be competitive - so the coupon is merely a "bait and switch". I was told I would be paying 3% more if I used their "interest free financing" or a credit card. Mills Window and Door policy is to get 50% down but the work won't start for 2 months and they control the scheduling. When I questioned my concerns about paying 50% up front then having to be held hostage for at least 2 months to get the work done is not a benefit to me as a customer. One would hope a siding company would stock standard white siding. I was told they have been around for 20 years and have tons of great reviews. The original company was registered with Missouri Secretary of State in 2015. The "fictious company" was registered in 2022. Reviews can be manipulated as we all know and I would recommend homeowners get names and phone numbers from actual customers they have done work for in the past 3 months or don't use them. I informed the rep I would do my research to ensure I am dealing with the original company that has been around that long and he quickly skedaddled stating we were not a good fit. I agree.... I don't like working with companies who are not transparent and want to charge up front then not deliver the service for 2 months. I found the lack of transparency, multiple addresses and business practices unacceptable and felt it important to warn other homeowners to do your research and get actual recent referrals and bids from other companies.

There were 3 leaks (at the shower glass corner and at two of the clips). They did not come out to fix the problem until 12/21/22 - over one month later! Next time I took a shower it was still leaking at one of the clips. They came out to fix it a second time on 1/18/23 - more than 2 months from the original install date! Again there was still a leak. I emailed them about my frustrations and asked for a discount. They did not respond to my email. 6 days later I emailed them again after contacting a different shower glass company (Perfection Glass) to come fix the problem. They finally emailed saying they would give me a discount but that giving a discount would void the warranty on both parts and labor. Since the warranty seemed irrelevant from them anyway, I took the discount, and will have Perfection Glass fix my problem. As an aside, for those who don't know, all parts are warrantied for life from the parts manufacturers, so the only part of the warranty which is voided is for labor. I could have gone into much more detail about my frustrations, but the long story short is that I had a leaky shower installed which had still not been fixed after two months. I'm not saying don't use them; I'm simply giving you my experience. Good luck with whatever you decide.
