We went back at the end of the season last fall. We were interested in picking apples, but there was a $10 minimum to purchase access to the orchards - per person. If we could have just paid for one small bag or just based on the weight we picked, we would have done it. But we honestly just didn't need $20 worth of apples, so it didn't seem worth it. If you're willing to drive a bit out of the city of Chicago, then this place is 100% worth it! I had no idea County Line Orchard was SO big. It is very organized. You pay for your apples/bag ahead of time and then you can pick them by yourself - just a short walk or hayride away. They had so many different varieties. It was so fun to wander the aisles and find the best apples. After picking, we snagged a ton of goodies from their large market - soup mixes, apple crisp mix, and pickled veggies. This is a popular orchard so beware on the weekends. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was mobbed. We didn't even go to pick apples and instead just did some shopping and grabbed ready picked bags of apples. The apples were good though my galas seemed to dry up fast. I also tried one of their parfait donut treats which was tasty except that the donut tasted stale and I wondered if they do that on purpose. Fantastic way to spend a fall afternoon, bought the u-pick 1/2 bushel for $15/person, was able to explore newest orchard that was ready to be picked! Went at the perfect time, so many fresh apples, filled to the brim. Go by tractor or bus to the fields, and they will drop you right back off in front. Head into the general store and get lost in the variety of seasonal treats, sauces, dips, cider, fall decor and pumpkin glazed and cider donuts. Lots to explore, food trucks and attractions galore! I love this place for my yearly apple picking. My wife and I go every year to pick their delicious apples, this year I found it a little different they give you a bag according to how many pound you like to purchase, you pay upfront for the bag a fill it up and its yours. Last year is you pay to come inside they give you a bag and at the end you check out and pay for how ever many lbs you gathered. Either way its a great deal because of the assortment of apples you can pick. We always shop in the farm store and also have lunch at the vendors that gather in the lot with their foods. We had the taco lunch because we were going for pizza that evening and I didn't want to have it for lunch. I had two chicken tacos with rice and beans. My wife had the steak tacos with rice and beans followed by an orchata drink. The food was so good I went up to the vendor and told him we really enjoyed his tacos. He was very appreciative. So, at the store we bought honey with ginger and honey with habanero both very yummy with tea. I also grabbed some popcorn and of course their famous apple cider. The prices and service was awesome as always and we took alot of fun pics before heading back home to chicago. This is definitely a fun place to visit with a loved one or family. Our annual apple picking location! About an hour outside of Chicago, it's great for apple picking, pumpkins, hay rides, a corn maze, and more! On weekends, enjoy pony rides (this was my first time on a Friday and they weren't offered, though the weather was great). Purchase Apple Cards that can be used for rides and animal food to feed the goats, cows, and sheep. They've added a children's obstacle course in 2024 that's very cute. The gift shop has fudge, donuts, apple clear, flavored hot chocolate, seasonal trinkets, and assorted wines. There are usually food trucks onsite (this may be on weekends only). I love the $8 wine flight to try different selections before you buy bottles for home. Make a family trip out of it and rent park areas, great for gathering and grilling with friends! They are marketing what they don't have. Came here to pick apples and all they had was Golden Delicious. And if you want what they picked, you are charged more. So you go to pick apples and you end up buying for a higher price what they picked already. They had lotz of honeycrisp apples and a few pallets of only 2-3 other kinds of apples. We picked a jubilee Fuji and ludacrious apples. There supposed to be some apples available late September or early or mid October. But none of the early or mid October apples were available. The donuts were delicious, caramel apples were too good, and the apples I picked from the bin were perfect. Lots of cute nick nacks, lots of photo opportunities. This place is a real zoo on the weekends. It is wild, a football field filled with cars and cops everywhere. I tried both kinds of donuts, cider, and 3 kinds of pie. The donuts with the red glaze on them were really good, very moist. The cinnamon sugar donuts were a bit on the dry side but the flavor was ok. The cider was too sweet for me. I like tart cider. My family and I have been coming here for years for the Apple picking and for the kids zone. We always have a great time and buy tons of items from the store. I wish the pumpkin patch was a bit more aesthetically pleasing. There weren't many pumpkins out there in the field (just tiny ones), most were for sell at the store. The barn is open at 8 am but the attractions aren't open until 9 AM. Our family of four visited on a Saturday and arrived shortly after 9 AM. The main parking lot was already filling up so I think it's most ideal to arrive early. We purchased the little farmer pass for $7 per person which includes the tractor rides and kids' farm. We did not have to wait in line for the first tractor ride but there was a line around 11 AM. Our girls spent a good amount of time on the tractor ride, at the pumpkin patch, and kids' farm. The kids' farm had roosters, mini donkeys, cows, and goats in addition to a huge John Deere truck for pictures, face painting for $2, family portraits for $5, basketball hoops, and mini maze. For lunch, we checked out the food stands which had barbecue, tacos, and pizza. We ordered the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches with a side of pickles and potato salad. The barbecue sauce is on the side. Our girls ate the sandwiches without issue. We also ordered a chicken noodle soup from the Kitchen which is nothing special. In fact, I think there was only one piece of chicken, a few slivers of carrots, and mostly noodles... From the Barn, we purchased two pumpkins which were only $1 each, half a dozen donuts, and a slice of pumpkin pie. I wanted to have both donut flavors, pumpkin and apple cinnamon, so I was really happy to see that the half dozen and full dozen boxes come in two flavors. For those who don't want to over-indulge, a single donut can be purchased for $2 and a slice of pie for $3. My firstborn was adamant about trying the pumpkin pie so we bought her a slice. She had a few bites and did not want the rest. So I gladly finished it for her. Imagine if we had to buy a whole pie just because she really wanted to try it... Overall, I thought the farm was well managed, orderly, and clean. My main complain is the toilet paper in the Barn is awfully thin. It's really difficult to retrieve it without them breaking into tiny bits so one would end up wasting more than actually putting them to practical use. We returned here for a delightful outing with our youngest grand-darling.  It was delightful in part because though it was on a Columbus Day holiday, it wasn't the weekend.  They are set up, staffed, and organized like a Disney World here and for big Disney World type crowds and it must be really curraazzy here on the weekends. Anyway, on a gorgeous fall day, we had a light lunch in their Kitchen barn house, rode on their tractor to the apple and maze fields, ran through the kids' soy maze, hand-picked some Shizuka and Melrose apples, and bought some donuts and a pumpkin pie.  T'was a very fun day, and the grand-darling (and us) had a blast.   I never heard of a Shizuka apple.  I don't know how long it's been around, but it's Japanese and big, green, sweet, crisp, and very delicious.  I proclaim it my favorite apple though I honestly haven't done a lot of serious comparing. I think I like it over Fuji, Gala, Honey Crisp, and Melrose apples anyway.  The Melrose apple was ok, but being slightly more tangy, was a distant second today.  Besides 8.5 lbs of mostly Shizuka apples (at $1.99/lb), we also picked up a dozen donuts (cinnamon and pumpkin) for $12 and a pumpkin pie for $13.  The donuts are light, airy, flavorful, and very fresh and quite a good deal at that price, as are the pies.  We didn't even take the time to check out the kids' farm or rides, but for a once-in-a-while fall outing, it was plenty of fun for us as it was. read more

NO APPLES, NO REFUNDS... My whole family comes here every year and was really looking forward to it, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. First, there were barely any apples to pick, and the ones left on the trees were either rotten or infested with bugs. People were literally picking apples off the ground, which were also in terrible condition. To make matters worse, when I asked for a refund on the $30 bag I had purchased, I was flat-out refused. I can't believe they were charging so much for a bag of apples when there weren't any decent ones to pick! Save your money and find a better orchard to visit. This one is rotten. Seriously don't go, you don't know if there are apples till you go out there and you have to buy a bag to go. No refunds, it's a racket. read more

We recently went to County Line Orchard to kick off its grand opening for the season. While I'm glad we went early for a stronger pick at apples, it's definitely become more expensive to come here - they don't have children's prices for the activities, the cost of apples has increased, and the animal farm wasn't a petting zoo (which seemed like a change from prior years). What's more, you have to really pay attention to charges because the staff tried charging me for my 1 year old (despite kids under 2 being free). While the apples were good, the rest of the experience was lackluster. read more

I've been coming here ever since I was a child and think this is one of the best orchards for the price around Chicago. It's a pretty standard orchard with a barn, apple trees, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, petting zoo, and kids games. There is a tractor to take you around the property but the whole place is totally walkable. It's large enough that it can be busy but doesn't feel stuffy. We were able to get enough apples to make a pie, a large pumpkin, two bottles of apple cider, and a half dozen donuts for less than $30. I would highly recommend the pumpkin donuts. When it comes to their apple picking season, I cannot say I am impressed this year. The price for an all inclusive wristband sits at $14.50, which includes u-pick, kids farm, moo train, and maze. The kids farm is nothing exciting. You can't feed or touch the animals and its just boring to look at. The mazes were mediocre. I honestly wouldn't spend the money to do it all. (I mean I already did, but to anyone else planning to attend). Their staff is nice but they also look bored. Not much interaction or fun that would make you want to go again. The store is full of goodies, which I typically love! However, I miss the days when you were watching them crank things out right in front of you. Fresh hot donuts! Now everything is pre-packaged and the staff is staring at the customers through the windows. For me. county line isn't the same. Maybe next time I will just go to the store and skip everything else. A fantastic apple picking outing! I've been to County Line Orchard before, their staff is great, welcoming and helpful. A well run operation. The u-pick is by the lb, but admission is required for everyone - we received wrist bands. Be prepared to spend money to have a good time. Nothing was overly too pricey. We arrived the last weekend of Sept, and just after opening (was still able to get a spot on the first row of parking lot). Laster arrivals like after 10am will park across the road on the open field. All-access pass which was $14 per person, and includes admission, the children farm area and the maze and the "moo-choo" ride. We did all of these things and we did enjoy the experiences. If we only did the u-pick, I think we still would have enjoyed ourselves. They provide heavy duty plastic bags at checkin. First stop off the orchard trailer was the honey crisp and pumpkin patch. The apples were plump and sweet! Much different than what I'm able to get at the grocery store. Spent an hr in the orchard picking. You don't need an apple pole, since the "trees" were child friendly. Pumpkin patch, took some photos. A few good poke your head thru a cute wooden scene kind of things setup, and some nice looking back-drops. Then back onto the next trailer for the mazes. There were two mazes, soy (3ft) and the maise (corny pun included by me) maze 10-11ft. This weekend Albanese gummy candy for the maze participants. It's nice that they're so high, since the sun was not beating down on us while we were aimless and lost. Don't bother trying to pick the corn, it's animal feed corn. Do yourself a favor, even if you enjoy a challenge, pull up the map on your QR reader as you enter in like the staff recommends. We spent about 30-45 mins in the maze. There are landmarks inside the maze to orient yourself, but you need the map. Back onto the trailer and back to the main barn/store for a restroom break. There were port-o-potties in the field, but I can't do that. The restrooms were renovated and clean. The feature was the free off the line donuts. They were churning them this morning and I opted for a dozen vs a half, bc they were still warm and the staff was still filling out shelves (I really had to justify that somehow bc when I was on the trailer, I told myself we'll only get the half dozen...but that was before I found out they have pumpkin glazed AND cinn-sugar). I'm sure they produced most of the inventory that morning, buts it's nice to see the box still steamed up. My kids watched the staff in the kitchen window setup for kids (platform). Apparently frozen apple cider slush is a popular item served in the coffee window said many whole we were watching thr donut operation. All the registers were in the far tent, and there was seating up in the upper loft area. Not many seated but there was a live guitar performance starting at 10am sharp. Great entertainment while we enjoyed cinnamon sugar and pumpkin glazed donuts. If that was all we did we would have been happy. But we also paid for the kids farm(located just before the trailer pickup point), where you could generally let loose a little and let the littles explore the animals they have there (roosters, chickens, goats, calves). The animals were definitely active. I don't believe you're suppose to feed the animals or touch them...but kids still tried. If you were thinking about skipping the big corn and soy mazes for the the Lil maze (it's just hay bakes, so like 2ft high - also known as not really a maze). There was a Peter pumpkin eating robotic robot show as well in the maze and tucked away in a corner a little baby chick hatching shed. Onto the MooChoo...so it's not like a train on a track. It was a bunch of barrels cut out on wheels being pulled by...a tractor. My kids loved it we went twice, each barrel was designated a cow type name like Betsy etc. And they had some wooden cutouts of animals along the track. Each kid under 3 (no wrist bands) need to be in a barrel with an adult (umm...if you are an adult that is taller than avg you are going to be crammed in and your kid sitting on your chest). This is where I wish the staff would have been more strict on safety...there was a smart-alec kid behind me that thought it was a good idea to just stand in his barrel the entire back-half of the ride. There were seatbelts though, but if adult with kid in cart, it won't fit around y'all both. Food options galore, they had a few food stall stands outside- the BBQ was popular along with a brick oven pizza truck and a live band. Burgers and fries in the food building it seems (we didn't eat there, had to get going). Great day to spend autumn day. It's definitely busy on the weekends but that's where the action is. Fall means Apple orchards and I was keen to get out to one while I was in the area. Brought my 2yo toddler nephew with us for a fun weekend activity. We chose the all-access pass as we planned to spend a couple of hours. We got a ride on a tractor pull that had stops at a corn maze, pumpkin patch, sunflower field and apple orchard. We went to the orchard which had all sorts of apple varieties, some I've never heard of! You can pick as many as you want--simply take them with you to the barn entrance and pay for them (cost is per pound). Afterwards we went by the kids barn so my nephew could see some animals (chickens, goats, ducks, etc) This is not a petting zoo, just a place for observation but no handling of the animals. Inside the barn they had apple cider, donuts (both apple and pumpkin, latter is the best and super-moist), popcorn, candied applies and all sorts of treats. I got over a dozen of each donut and it didn't feel like enough! They also have a few food trucks lining the entrance for those who want something more substantial while visiting the orchard. If you're looking for an inexpensive day at the orchard, County Line might just hit the spot. To ride the tractor and pick apples is just $2/person plus the cost of whatever apples you select. I'm only leaving off one star because there were pretty slim pickings when we went on September 4. The apple trees themselves are pretty small and most of them have been picked over. Just assume that there's no point looking for apples wherever the tractor drops you off. If you backtrack a bit, you're more likely to find spots that haven't been picked over. There is a huge, lovely barn where you can pick up your donuts and jams and popcorn seasonings and cider. When we went, we exited the barn to go into a large tent to check out. It's a little chaotic in there - no clear queue for who goes to what register. But the place was staffed appropriately. LOTS of windows to buy your tickets, LOTS of cashiers. When you leave the cashier tent, there's a parking lot with lots of picnic tables and some awesome food trucks. If it's a hot day, keep walking past all the food trucks and the stationary County Line Grill and you'll find a nice shaded picnic area where musicians play. There's also a kids' petting zoo of some sort and a little train ride if you'd like to pay extra. I went with my 3-year-old twins and they were very happy to ride the tractor, pick some apples, and eat some ice cream from a food truck afterward. No additional fees necessary. Also, major props for their parking organization. Lots of staff telling you where to go and keeping things lined up. I've been to orchards with a more robust apple selection, but this was one of the best in terms of staffing, crowd control, spacing, and variety of attractions. COVID-19 Note: My boys and I were the only ones wearing masks on the entire property. This, despite the fact that Indiana is currently averaging 4,256 cases and 28 deaths each day over the past week. We were so looking forward to the apple pie being loaded with chunks of apples mainly because they grow them right there in the orchard. The Aldi apple pie sold in the fall tasted better, sorry to say. More apples were needed. The donuts were fine but my husband found them to be dry inside. I love the County Line Orchard! For ONE DOLLAR - you can take a tractor ride through the orchard, stop and get on/off at various locations to walk through the orchard, pick apples, experience the peaceful surroundings, visit the bee yurts, check out the small animals and learn something about each one, listen to entertainment, browse the shop, and take tons of photos. However, this past weekend - Saturday, September 5th was a little unorganized and super crowded. We were there at OPENING (9:00 am) and the parking was already across the street. The County Line Road is closed to normal traffic and open just for the Orchard. Police were helping to direct traffic and watch out for pedestrians crossing the street. After parking, you walk towards the FRONT ENTRANCE which was relocated due to the current environment and definitely ZERO physical distancing. In fact, no Employee was out watching this or helping to organize people. It wasn't very safe in my opinion. (Why would we come you might ask? Because it is advertised to be safe and organized.) Taking the tractor was also tough since you wait and again no one understands what physical distancing means. In fact, on the tractor, there are red benches that you are NOT to sit on to help with the distancing, but again people disobey the rules and the Employees do NOT enforce either. Upon getting off the tractor into the Orchard, you are on your own, but can definitely spread out without being on top of other people. So much better. We ended up going back to the little farm to see the animals (bee yurts were closed) and there are definitely people with NO MASK on - even though the "requirement" was to have a mask on the entire visit. And - you guessed it - no Employees enforcing this rule either. Inside the barn shoppe it is pretty crowded but you must walk in one direction only - so it is one-way - however, people again do NOT respect the physical distancing rule and NO Employee enforces this. Maybe it was a mistake to go; but how else could I help write up a review for anyone thinking of visiting in the coming weekends. If you must go - do so super early - have a plan - get what you need - then get out. I would wait for next year to experience more - maybe the maze is better since you can distance and get lost out there. But we avoided the maze. Good luck! read more

Went today and had a lovely visit! I went on a weekday to avoid crowds. The grounds are beautiful. I walked around the orchards and wandered the corn maze. They have a great selection of caramel apples, pies, donuts and cider. Some reviews are complaining about lack of apples on the trees. Apple season starts late August/early September. By this time of the year they are pretty much done. There weren't apples on the trees today, nor did I expect them, given that it's almost November. They might want to put a statement about this on their website to avoid issues/complaints though. read more

There are signs on the fences and on the ground to keep 6ft apart but know one adhered to that . Being from Chicago we are used to the stricter rules and maintained a safe distance between us and others . The way that everyone has been gushing about this experience I honestly felt that I was really missing out on something. I think if I went during any other time in American history, the experience would have been "mehhh" to "well at least I did it" instead of "why did I come to Indiana when I could have bought the same apples from any farmstand?" First off, all the people that you thought would be there are there. College girls who just want to take insta pics, families who are there for something to do, angry dads and boyfriends who are pissed because women got the right to vote...you known the drill. Pandemic precautions were noted, but definitely not enforced, all the orchard staff seemed to be following mask rules; our cashier was even nice enough to put his on when we came up to pay, but you could tell the Dortios snack adventure he was enjoying before we walked up was his first priority. Yes, he had Dorito fingers...but I guess I should be grateful he didnt lick them off. No apples were to be found on the trees when we were there 10/4/2020. Lots on the ground...with bites taken out of them. You know, like toddler sized bites. Awesome. It was still a super nice day to walk around in nature and I appreciated the size of the orchard. I was also grateful it was chilly; I cant imagine what that place would have smelled like if it was any kinds of warm. Everyone was raving about the apple cider and the donuts. I mean, they were okay. Grocery store quality on both. But people were buying them by the cartload, so maybe it's a midwestern tradition that I'm just not privy to. Drove 2hrs for apple picking experience and of the 10 apple varieties they advertise on their website only one was available to pick this year (golden delicious) and there were NONE left on those few trees. They still charge you up front. When I realized there was nothing for my daughter and I to do they made us go all the way back to the entrance wait in line again to upgrade to let's and still charged us full price. Located just about an hour outside of the city of Chicago that's easy to get to farm/orchard was a perfect activity for a Friday morning. It was for two adults Who wanted to go apple picking we were able to park in the handicap area which was closer to the barn and kitchen however you'll need to walk across a large parking lot to get to the tent to pay for admission and/or take the tractor ride which could be arduous for some. I did not see a drop off area for mobility impaired guests. I'm not sure if we could've drove our car further down the parking lot and dropped off one of our persons We paid the two dollar entry fee and took too bad. It was probably around 11 AM when we got in line for the tractor. It took some time to actually get a tractor to come and pick the group up that was waiting in line which was a little long Dash probably 20 minutes or so. There were a few schools with field trips and another adult group also on a field trip. You take the tractor and go to the corn maze first then the pumpkin patch and then finally the orchards. We spent probably 20 minutes picking some apples. We did not want to pick a lot because we did not wanna have to carry them plus we did not want to miss the next tractor and we did not want to pay a large fee. I know this sounds crazy because we're trying to support a local farm but we didn't want to take extra apples off the tree that we weren't going to use. When we are done we grab the tractor back to the barn walked inside past the bags of apples, cinnamon donuts, cider, pie etc. we opted to get some fresh cups of cider along with some smaller bottles of cider and an individual donut. I'm glad we tried the donuts because they were very dry and did not have a pleasant taste. We love cider donuts and this was just not it. We ended up purchasing some caramel apples as well. Be prepared for some lines and maybe some traffic. You might want to bring some water out to the orchards. They do have Porta potty's. We did not see any actual bathrooms so I'm not sure if they have those. There's lots of activities for kids. If you're an adult or young adult this is a fun activity for a date night or just to get out of the city etc. Lots of things for kids to do. They definitely have quite a operation. Disappointing visit. Raised prices overall. Selling the apple bags & then having very few edible apples was unacceptable. They opened another field but the apples were mixed varieties and many were rotted or past their prime. I usually go & buy many apples of different types for baking & eating. From now on I'll just go to the local farmers market. read more

Had my first visit to an apple orchard with friends in Hobart, IN., "County Line Orchard". We rode the hayride around the resort to choose where we wanted to pick apples, fun. They had every type of apple imaginable, not to mention pumpkins, a small children's zoo, play area and entertainment. So many types of apples to choose from. At the general store we purchased home made apple cider, fresh pies, fudge and other treats. So before fall is over, make sure your family gets to experience the "County Line Orchard", truly worth the trip. read more

They've really thought of everything 'fall' or 'classic midwest'. They have: apple picking GALORE (fields and fields of apples to pick from), sunflower field, maze, pumpkin patch, kids area (goats chickens bee yurts pigs alpacas), food truck area and of course an insane store. Excessive amount of photo opportunities. WARNING; it wasn't very intuitive that you have to wait in line to the right of the barn to pay for entry to go u-pick. There's that line then slightly to the left is the line to ride the tractor to get to the Apple fields. If it's a sunny warm-ish fall day, get there before noon because the population of chicago and Indiana will have the same idea as you read more

I would NOT recommend County Line Orchard . I agree with several of the reviews, they are deceiving and have bad business practices. We came here with kids to PICK apples( the experience) and there were NONE to pick. If i wanted to buy apples from a bin I can just go to the market. I understand the season came early ( as they stated) but why not disclose that to customers before they pay and have them decide. Alot of people were upset as they felt taken advantage of. Its not the money, it's the principle. Shame on them! read more

We come every year to pick apples with family and go through the animal farm. You have to come within the first few weeks of the season to pick fresh gala apples yourself and we finally made it this year! Their apple cider donuts are amazing. They also have some food stands and live music in the picnic area. read more
