This is the best Italian sub in the entire town. No questions about it. A true masterpiece. Junes hot crackers are one of the simplest yet creative side snacks I have seen at any restaurant. Never would have thought I'd be ordering saltines before but here I am. The ambience of the place is an old school Irish pub that's kind of a lost treasure nowadays. Such a different vibe between daytime and night. My husband and I stopped in around 230pm, and it was fairly dead. We joked that it was the most un-Irish Irish pub. People were very nice, but it just felt like any other dive bar. Then after a day of pub crawling we went back around 9pm - and it was hopping! Live band was great, and the Korey Hunt from Luke Combs' band got up to play for awhile. It's definitely a spot we'll come back to whenever we're in town. read more

This place was amazing for several reasons. -great dive bar inside with darts and stage for live music -two outdoor patio areas both with tables that have umbrellas for shade -AMAZING food - I got the Italian sub and my partner got the hot Sicilian - both were amazing, absolutely no complaints -very reasonably priced - my 12" sub was around $12 -friendly staff; the bartender brought a fresh water bowl for our doggo Overall, 20 out of 10! Wow!! I hadn't had Durty Nellys food since I was a kid and their subs are still A1. I had the Italian sub and am already excited for when I can grab another one. Portion size is HUGE, once sandwich is definitely enough for 2 meals (or 2 people). Beer specials are great and happy hour deals are good. Great local pub and they have some dart boards inside. Crazy that Durty Nellys totally transforms into a karaoke bar on wednesday nights. You would never recognize this place. By day it's an old country style western type bar with plenty of outdoor smokers and an older crowd. I always get a little uncomfortable stepping in during those regular nights. But on Wednesdays it's filled with a fun young and student type crowd with a great karaoke host Theo who we have come to know. Super fun and honestly the best karaoke i've been to in Charlottesville. Closest thing to a traditional "pub" that you have in Charlottesville. Nothing fancy, but regular live music weekly throughout the year, a fireplace roaring in the bar area, a deli attached that makes delicious and overstuffed sandwiches for a good price, and people that have probably been working in and around Durty Nelly's for forever. Not pretentious, not overpriced, not looking to impress you, but they might! There's also a little quickmart attached, with an entrance on the other side, but you can get to it from inside the pub. Basically, with a bar, a deli and a little market, it's a one stop shop! We used to live around the corner, and I wish we had visited Durty Nelly's more often. It can be intimidating seeing guys with cowboy hats smoking on the outdoor patio area, so I wasn't always keen to walk right in, but once I did I realized what I'd been missing. After being spoiled by British pubs when I moved to Scotland after turning the legal drinking age, I sorely miss the availability for that sort of vibe in the US, but Durty Nelly's gets pretty close. I feel like this is a institution in C-Ville's night life. This was my first time to the pub and it totally made an impression. It's a local bar for sure. I went on a Thursday night and the locals were out in full force. It was an older crowd, but I'm sure college students frequent it often. I got a draft and a vodka with a pickle back. The draft was 3 dollar and a top shelf vodka w/ chaser 10 dollars. Wow , what a deal!!!! I guess I'm use to paying a lot more. The ambiance was your typical Irish bar, but laced with a 70's vibe. I also tried a sub. I choose the cavalier sub. It was 12 dollars and worth every penny. It was heavy and the size of my arm. Lol . In conclusion, this place is worth the money and the experience. Local (dive?) bar, fireplace roaring, customer sitting at the bar with dog at his feet. Some of the best sandwiches either of us has had in a long, long time. I had lived in Frys Spring for two years but it wasnt until I had left the neighbourhood that we eventually stopped into Durty Nelly's - Wayside for a bite to eat (I had been more occupied with the wineries and breweries in the area). I was impressed by the cosy atmosphere, roaring fire and all in all local pub feel to the place (reminiscient of the pubs back in the UK). We didnt stay for a pint though, just grabbed some sandwiches from the deli which is found through the bar and round the corner. The sandwiches were pretty good sized and tasty. Would go again. We had a bit of a wait when we went but only because a larger party had descended just before us. The staff were continually very apologetic while they made our order up, which shows excellent service. Next time I'd like to go for a pint by the fire! read more

Aww, it's too bad the only two reviews of the place give it 2 1/2 stars - albeit they are (out)dated from 2006! This was our first stop back to the bf's collegetown, and brought with it memories of old-fashioned, no-frills food coupled with cold beer, wine and cola. The Dagwood was enormous and enough to share. Various slices of deli meat, swiss cheese, a soft roll. Chips (not made in house) came on the side. Bottled beer from the fridge sat next to various Mike's hard lemonade and cans of soda. The decor is oldie and old. Cross a threshold into an inner room for the deli (and watch your step - it's raised). Another room further is an arcade proper. The bathroom is tiny and the stall's door - well, let's just say a person waiting would get slammed if they stood inside. A peruse of the chalkboards and notices while seated at the bar indicates its a favorite watering hole for locals, a game night during the week, and a sports venue for others. You would seriously never know the place existed but for veterans of its long-standing subs. read more

Durty Nelly's is the place to go if you're looking for a dive bar to sit around with your friends in and shoot the breeze. After one visit, my friends and I have been back multiple times in one month. The deli food is fresh tasting and line up with the price-point. Visited for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it! Down home, comfy kinda place with delicious down home food! I had the tomatoes stuffed with tuna salad - big serving and delicious! Was happy to see they had deviled eggs too - with or without jalapeño - a special treat! Friendly service - you can tell they really care about this place and want to make you feel welcome! Stayed for the band - with Wave, Bill, Wolf and Scott for a night of kickin' and down home blues - loved the music and they had the place rockin' and dancing' all night long! Wayside is always crackalackin' at lunch, so I think its best to call your order in and carry-out. Very limited seating inside. We keep it simple and always get an American and an Italian. All sandwiches come with Tostitos and a pickle spear. Nothing fancy, but for about $9 a sandwich you will get a hearty meal. read more
