A cute little Old West town square, with the large old courthouse in the center, makes for a good photo op. Festivals seem to be centered here as well. Unfortunately, we only stopped by briefly and just caught a glimpse of this town and walked briskly around.

Great venue space on the second floor. We went to an award ceremony there and the space has beautiful tall ceilings, ornate trim and very pretty. The nostalgic old PO Boxes adorn the hallways on the first floor while h is fun to see as well.

Courthouse square in the center of Prescott AZ the original territorial capital of the Arizona territory. A beautiful park setting with large shade trees in the summer. This historical piece of ground has been in use for over 140 years. Though nowdays it host summer concerts, various craft fairs to smaller gatherings of prayer groups as well as political rallies and peaceful demonstrations. Though a century earlier it was where the territory held public hangings. It is surrounded by the famous whiskey row as well as an assortment of small businesses including restaurants and bars. In the winter it is lite up with Christmas lights in the trees. You won't miss this square when you drive through Prescott.

The Yavapai County Courthouse is the focal point of downtown Prescott. The Courthouse was built in 1916 and is still strikingly beautiful, looking like the perfect backdrop for a movie set. A visit to downtown Prescott isn't complete without a stop at the Courthouse. This building really adds to the charm of the entire area.

I love the town of Prescott, AZ for it's old west theme that has transformed itself to a cool modern day hangout! The courthouse square takes you back in time to wondering what it must have been like in this town in the mid 1800's! It still keeps that old west charm, mixes in some cool dive bars, good local eats, and on a beautiful day it's just a neat place to stroll and take it all in!

This century old Courthouse Square green space feels like it's out of a movie, but it's great for us back to the future. We were up here for a conference and found the Yavapai County Court House impressive. In any other town, the Courthouse would be the the major attraction and take up most of the space in the town square. Here, thanks to great planning by the founders of Prescott, we have this wonderful large green space that surrounds it. Thanks to their great planning and foresight it allows for a nice area to picnic or just relax under a shady tree. Now that summer is approaching, Prescott's allure for it's cooler temps, the fun of Whiskey Row's galleries and bar life, may spur us in the Valley to make this ninety minute trip. But when you come, plan to sit and catch some sun on this four sided park. It's beautiful and feels right out of a movie. Enjoy!

I love "The Square" It is actually one of the reasons I choose to live in Prescott proper and close to downtown. It is a fantastic place for a walk, with or without your dog, and a great place for a picnic or just to hang out. There are, of course, all of the activities, shows, and festivals of all sorts that are held here throughout the year. Personally my favorite times here are when nothing like that is scheduled. An especially nice feature is that you are just a few steps away -- via "Sam's Crossing"-- from Whiskey Row. What could be better than that?

Mike the Dog: regardless of age, color, creed or station in life, he was a silent, tolerant, loyal friend.

I passed through Prescott years ago and admired the town square so I took the opportunity to check it out again during an art fair. I was curious about the two main sculptures on the square by Solon Borglum (the brother of Mount Rushmore sculptor, Gutzon Borglum). After taking some photos, checking out some of the western art on display at the fair, and, unexpectedly, downing some really good fried samosas sold by one of the food vendors, a woman noticed my camera and said that I just had to take a photo of the Mike the Community Dog plaque. (Awkward pause.) Uh, okay. I walked around for a while and then found the plaque. After asking someone who was standing on it to move, I read the inscription: 'Self-appointed guardian of the plaza, official welcomer of visitors and general ambassador of good will, Ol' Mike was known and beloved by all. 'Regardless of age, color, creed or station in life, he was a silent, tolerant, loyal friend.' Now, I'm no sleuth but my take is that Mike the Dog (1945-1960) was a four-legged dignitary and major power broker in downtown Prescott who led an exemplary canine life and was not a racist dog. I had no idea that some dogs in the 40s and 50s were racists so it goes to show that we've come a long way in this country and Mike the Dog was a true pioneer. So, my visit to Prescott was quite memorable and you have to give points to any town that is willing to erect a plaque in the town square for a dog. Three cheers for Prescott, Arizona.

My wife and I absolutely loved this town square! It's an absolute must to come here during Christmas time. We came on Christmas Eve so we missed the parade and lighting ceremony but still got to experience the lights, Christmas tree and bandstand. The courthouse was also very palatial, definitely giving off that feel of being in the Old West. The highlight of our time there had to be the 103-year-old pine tree planted the same day AZ became a state: 02/14/1912. The thing was huge and had music with synchronized lights attached! Pretty much every attraction in Prescott is around this square so you can't miss it. Stop by for a day trip or on your way to Sedona or Flag!

Always out favorite place for an evening stroll with our family. We live close by and enjoy the atmosphere of locals walking their dogs, kids running in the grass and visitors taking photos. There's always something going on on the weekends. And the businesses surrounding are all awesome. Love our little square.

Oh Prescott- such a historic lil community. Courthouse square follows suit. Walking through this one block park one can't help but think about how old the courthouse and surrounding buildings are. I happened to pop in during a historical weekend celebration. The square was transformed into an open-air, antique fair. There were so many interesting pieces to look at and some real unique bargain to have be had. There was a live band. Some kind of competition in between songs. People dressed up in pioneer-esq apparel... Plus its a convenient place to catch a snooze, especially since Whiskey Row runs along one side of the square ;)

What time is best to come to the area for the parade and tree lighting ceremony? l recently moved here and don't know what to expect as far as crowds/parking etc

It gets super crowded! I would plan on an hour or more early. As far as parking depending on your walking ability I would park farther out, when the festivities are over the closer you're parked in the longer it takes you to get out of the area. One… Read more

Going this direction, it is paved all the way to the base of the rock formation forming the top. Going this direction is also steeper than going the opposite direction (CCW). From here, you're climbing, not hiking. But that part is pretty easy too...just be careful and stay within your limits. Perigrin falcons nest on the top rock section and this section does have a nesting closure period which I believe is summer through fall...but you should research the exact range as I'm not sure. If you keep your eyes open, you can see them most times of the year...but they're fast! You can also get to the base of the rock section forming the top, by a dirt path. The grade is easier, but the path there is longer. You'll occasionally see mountain bikes on this path, so heads up. Regardless of which path you use to get to the top, keep your eyes open (& ears a listening) for rattlesnake. I've seen them multiple times hiking this area. I've also seen numerous hikers that let their dogs run free (against park rule). It would not be a good day for your dog if it gets bitten.

If you have bad knees like I do, walking up is easier than down, my knees hurt so bad every step I took walking down because it was such a long steep down. I was able to make it to the top with my 7-year-old, surprisingly he enjoyed it all. Depending on your viewpoint, I saw someone had just arrived in the parking lot when we were getting ready to leave, thought it'd be nice to just give him my ticket so he could save $5. We were only there for like 1.5 hours. Tip: Also, if you just want to drive by it and take a nice mini scenic drive(because you're like me and you're curious to know what else is up that road..), keep driving on the road past the paid parking and you'll notice people will park on the side of the road and walk the more flat areas, there are further trails you'll notice. I drove the whole thing till it takes you to some nice houses that seem like they're in the middle of nowhere, more beautiful and all the high trees, you drive through the houses in a loop which will lead you back on the same road to head back into town. You'll see it, or just view it on your maps. I've driven it several times, absolutely beautiful views on this mini scenic drive, probably about 15-20 min drive.
