I've been to Courtyard brewing more times than I can count. It's probably my favorite brewery in Nola. Unlike most breweries, I don't think Courtyard has a signature beer, there are no standards Jucifer or Paradise Park. They just make new stuff all the time, then run out of it, and brew something else. I think I have seen Sonic Youth in 1983 there more than once so maybe that's the closest thing. Regardless I am saying this as a good thing because every time I go, there is something knew. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Courtyard is like the ultimate dive bar of breweries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is a pop-up style kitchen that has held a variety of eateries over the years that used to include Burger Nerds and now has a taco place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is mismatch furniture throughout the indoors and front courtyard. Most of the seating looks like they robbed a daycare[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I'm in NOLA for a couple days for work and staying in the arts district. I found this place when doing an online search for breweries. The walk there was pretty easy...I was concerned it might get a little dicey by the interstate underpass but it really didn't. My bar is usually pretty low for breweries because they are usually run on a shoestring by a group of guys that really love beer but don't always know how to run a business. This place is a weird, eclectic vibe. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The furniture and overall vibe is pretty dumpy. The bar is even super wobbly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The beer list they have online indicating it is their current list was in no way related to the beer selection they actually had available. It was super limited with a lot of IPAs and sours. Not my jam. The is a food vendor on site as well; they have burritos, quesadillas, etc. it looked okay, but i wasn't in the mood for Mexican style food. Overall, it's fine. I like to try new places. I used to love coming to The Courtyard. Even though I'm from Louisiana, I live in San Diego now, and I'd always make a point to stop by whenever I was in town. I know the owner is also from California, San Diego, I believe, and I always appreciated the vibe this place used to have. Unfortunately, my visit last night was a big disappointment. Instead of the list being posted on the wall like it used to be, there were just sheets with one page of available beers and even some of those weren't in stock. I didn't see any collaborations, which used to be one of the best parts about coming here. The woman working the bar looked miserable, like she didn't want to be there. When I asked about the owner, she just shrugged. I tried to order a cold bottled water, but they were out. They were also out of Dr Pepper. I think I paid around three dollars for a Coke. I ordered the IIPA since that was the only available IPA minus a Sessions IPA. Overall, this place has gone downhill. It used to be one of my favorite local spots, but after last night, I don't see myself coming back. read more

We came here after visiting the National WWII Museum which is maybe a 5-10 minute walk away. I liked the courtyard area but because it was a bit chilly we sat inside. It's funky and fun with a very friendly bartender who poured us a couple of samples. We chatted about Chicago beer until more thirsty customers arrived. I got a sour, shockingly, but it was really nice! Black raspberry flavors! If you get hungry know there's ice cream on-site by the scoop AND they have vegan options! I have gone back and forth on how to rate this one. Since this is a brewery I will start by rating the beer. I had a barrel aged old sleepyhead and it was very good. A lot of places don't know how to make a barrel aged beer but that isn't the case here. Not only can they make a good barrel aged beer, they had a few on their draft list. As far as the brewery goes I really wasn't a fan. When traveling I like to stop in to the local breweries and try a few different beers and this brewery does not do flights. The brewery itself was ok but it really isn't a place I would revisit. I know a lot of people like the eclectic style but it isn't for me. There were a lot of people setting up tables out front so I think if I would have stopped in about an hour later it might have been nice to walk around and see what was being sold out there. Looked like King Cakes and various trinkets. I would rate this between a 3-4 but since the beer was good I will bump it up to a 4. read more

Wish I could recommend this higher. Maybe caught it on a bad night. It's a unique setting with a big courtyard and chairs / tables that look like they came out of some old high school. You walk all the way through the courtyard and there is a little inside area. Looks like a kitchen, the beer sales, and then they had some ice cream vendor there also that night. No one behind the counter, waited for a while, finally arrived. We ordered some beers and went to courtyard to drink. Again, maybe off night, and what we ordered wasn't good. I used to hang out here pretty regularly when I lived in the area. Always had a good time, the beers on tap are good, and the courtyard has cool vibes. I was back in the area bar hopping and decided to add it to my destinations since it had been a few years. I was confused because it didn't look like I remembered. Turns out they moved like a block from their old location. New (to me), but still has the same cool vibes and I'm happy to report the beers are still very good. We visited Courtyard while exploring the area on our recent visit to New Orleans. It's a pretty cool place with plenty of outdoor seating. I tried their standard wheat, and it was very good. It had lots of flavor while still feeling light. The guy behind the bar serving drinks was really helpful and patient with everyone in line, which makes for a good experience when trying a new brewery and beers. So I've been to Nola a few times and I can't believe this was my first trip to this gem. From ambiance to beer, this is the perfect oasis away from the bourbon street craziness to relax and have a great quality beverage. It's a bit off the beaten path, we walked there. We obviously survived but I don't recommend walking at night around there. And generally groups are always better than solo. The only way I can describe it is think small school recess play area. Add some outdoor Christmas lights, giant spools for what probably was electrical line, a bunch of random chairs from elementary school and you end up with awesomeness. If that's not enough to get you excited, the beer is great. I'm a dark fan and I enjoyed everything I had that night. I will definitely be back and I recommend to anyone to give this place a try. read more

This was my first trip to their new location when we were wandering around on my birthday. They have a nice and very large outdoor seating area as well as a few tables for indoor seating as well. It was a bit chilly so we stuck with the indoor seating. I'm a super picky beer drinker and tend to gravitate toward dark beers that have a little sweetness and the Oreo Delight was perfect for me. My favorite brewery in New Orleans. Usually when I go out of town, I visit a few breweries that I have heard are good. I usually like them because they come highly recommended but Courtyard blew the competition away! I LOVED my visit here and recently when I buddy visited NOLA, I begged him to stop by Courtyard and bring me back some goodies, which he did for a little extra for him. The Fuzzy Drupe he brought back was so freaking delicious! This was exactly what I would have expected from a New Orleans neighborhood taproom. Dont just spend all of your time in the French Quarter where they pander to gobs of tourists! At least make it a little way out to some of the neighborhood spots. As it is with many good spots in NO, Courtyard was right in the middle of a residential neighborhood making me feel like I was a real New Orleans resident rather than just another tourist. The outside seating areas looked great and several people were enjoying their beers out there. I walked in and saw that massive board of deliciousness they call a menu and I had to sit down to read it all. While I was sitting, a couple at the table next to me struck up a conversation with me and bought me my first beer! I ended up staying inside ,talking to them, sampling several of Courtyard's beers, and having a great time. My favorite beers here are those hazy New England IPAs. They are doing a great job at showcasing the different hop profiles and giving me exactly what I wanted to quench my haze craze. I love that they have several guest taps (all really good stuff). I like that they do crowler fills for taking home to my friends so I can share the love. Aaand I really liked the bartender who was super nice and really knew his stuff when it came to info on the beers. I will DEFINITELY be back! read more

On our last day in Nola we walked over from our CBD hotel. Got there right as they opened at 11am. We ordered 3 half pours of 4 IPAs a Belgian and a peanut butter stout and sat out in the courtyard. The brewmaster stopped to chat as he set up and made sure we liked the beers. We only had a short time and each sip made us regret leaving this place for last. The beers were each great and the quiet funky courtyard was so relaxing. As we took our glasses back to the bar we talked beer with the brewmaster some more and he noted there were two more IPAs we hadn't tried so he poured us a go cup of each. Two more excellent beers that made us regret not going there first!! We will be back. read more

This was a great brewery! I'm more of a cocktail girl, but my boyfriend prefers beer. He had been putting up with all of my cocktail lounge locations, so I wanted to be "fair" and bring him to a brewery on our trip to NOLA. I'm so glad I did! I wish I remembered the name of the guy who helped us. He was super friendly and very obviously knew a ton about beer (not just the beer at Courtyard, but different breweries around the country, different styles of beer, etc). He recommended a few beers and let us taste a couple before committing, which was super nice. We only got 1 drink, but this is the kind of place I could see staying at for a while. They have various seating areas inside as well as plenty of tables outside. We had just eaten, but if we hadn't, I would have 100% gotten some of the ice cream at the little stand inside. It's supposed to be delicious! That said - the brewery location, the beer and the service were all top notch. I'd definitely recommend this spot. read more

The idea of a courtyard usually lends my mind to some outdoor, grassy quadrant in the middle of a building. From now on, my mind will wander to a brewery instead. I'm all for this thinking so a big thanks to Courtyard Brewery for making my mind more beer oriented when thinking of certain vocabulary. This changing of the words occurred last month when I took a long and hot walk all the way from the French Quarter down to this unsuspecting brew-front. Really, if you didn't know what you were looking for (thanks, Yelp for the pics!) then you'd probably pass right by the place. What seems to be a loading dock turned brewery is what you'll find along with, I suppose, a concrete-esque courtyard area? There's a whole brick section of tables and umbrellas outside which could also be the courtyard in question, but on that sweltering June Monday in NOLA I had no plans on staying outside. The fact that it was a Monday (around 11:45) probably led to the reasoning of why things were slow (I only saw three people come in during the hour and half I was there). Hey, I was cool with it because this gave me more time to take in all of the place. First the digs. A hodgepodge of chairs and seats made up the interior with a slab of wood behind the bar that listed the taps. Lest not forget the awesomely odd artwork (lounging gorilla painting and oyster wreath). From there, I took in the beer (one glass at a time!). Well, I didn't have full pints for each round as you can go with a half pour and still get a great bang for your buck (these ran about $3-$4, no flights by the way). I did get one full pint, but let's hold off on that for a sec. My first fractional brew was To Scatter Stars, an IPA with (count em!) 21 different hops. Not that I'm a master of differentiating bitterness, but regardless, this was a quality brew with great balance all around. The next half pour was Boss of Dead Souls, an IPA with citra and melba. I feel a little wrong with my initial Untapped score of the beer as my first few sips brought on a rather strong, almost grassy flavor that I wasn't expecting. As I continued to taste it, that flavor dissipated and created a solid, more mildly bitter taste. After that, it was time to Preach! (Exclamation is part of the beer name). An imperial IPA that was deceivingly powerful at 8% ABV and was great on style and mouthfeel. Heading backwards, we return to my full pour. I don't know if it was the heat, my current mood, or some Nawlin's Voodoo, but Unorthodox Interpretations was a godly beer. A Belgian blonde ale that delivered wonderfully in representing the quality and taste of this brew type. Writing this up now I can still taste it. I almost wish I went for a second glass of it, but there was too much I wanted to try (plus Courtyard has a large selection of New Orleans craft beers beyond their own). It just makes me want to return that much more (it's totally worthy of another sweaty walk in the sun!). Overall, Courtyard Brewery is a unique beer spot full of great suds for the sipping. It's laid back which you can tell from it's chill staff and jazz music that played throughout my time. Yeah, so it's not in the middle of The French Quarter and it is a bit of a trek away from the more popular spots, but it's a brewery that should be on your radar if you're in NOLA and looking for local quality craft. Maybe the weather will suit you better than it did for me and you can bask in the Courtyard-ish-ness taking place. read more

They have a surprisingly long list of various brews, a nice indoor and covered outdoor space, and low key really delicious food! My husband and I tried three different IPAs and they were all really solid. We also got the chicken over rice and it was amazing. The best part was the combination of various sauces - white sauce, hot sauce, a salsa verde - along with the spiced rice and marinated chicken. It was a party on a plate. I didn't get a chance to try the ice cream- but it looked awesome- lots of flavors and even an ice cream for dogs! Driving by, you might miss it, but don't miss out on this gem! read more

Had an awesome time here! They have a really nice large outdoor seating area, the indoor was open as well with huge windows opened for fresh air. I got non typical brewery things of the crawfish as pictured which were awesome, they were huge and spicy along with corn and potatoes. We also got the nachos that were really unique and interesting and good. I had the Vietnamese coffee which I had never had before and loved it then had the lychee martini that I thought were very well priced ($8) and had 2 lychee in each drink. I used their online ordering to purchase a t-shirt in February and now here we are, in April and I still haven't received the order. I tried to email the company using two different email addresses that they post on their website and both bounced back. I also tried to find an alternative means on contacting them such as a phone number but they don't provide one. I feel like a sucker for expecting a business to have some sense of ethics, but I guess I was wrong. I liked Courtyard Brewery, I really did. The beer was good but there are a few areas begging for improvement. My friend and I came on a very busy Sunday afternoon. Courtyard has a bunch of random outdoor seating, but they could add a few more tables of varying (including smaller) sizes as there wasn't quite enough space for all patrons. I wouldn't go as far as to call the staff rude, but they were short & not anywhere near friendly. I found that disappointing as one of my favorite things about breweries is the passion of the staff for their beer. What's interesting about this brewery is they had nearly 30 beers on draft. Only about 8-10 or so were their own beers. Not sure I completely get that approach, but most seem to love it. Honestly it may be better to focus on just their own beers, as what I had was actually quite good! Offer them in various sizes, including taster sizes. Most of their beers which I wanted to try, I wasn't able to get in a taster size. Then the bathrooms. Really creepy and I dreaded going in there. It was such a nice beautiful day out, but the bathrooms were dark, single stall, with no lights at all, sliding door which I was never sure was locked and always left a little space so I could see out...just felt weird & uncomfortable being in this dark room looking out. Then walking out and washing my hands in front of everyone. So even with all the downfalls, Courtyard makes some solid beers. Some had funny names and were overall quite tasty. Equally Dreadful Cities was one of the best beers I've had in a long time, a 12.5% Braggot. Overall, I'm glad I came to Courtyard and enjoyed the beers, but in the future I'd love to try other NOLA breweries while I'm down there. read more

Not sure how to properly review this place because I don't want to be mean but I didn't enjoy it and I rarely say I don't enjoy an atmosphere. Not that anything was bad it just could've been way better and didn't make me happier when I walked in LOL. I'll say I am not a beer drinker so a brewery isn't my choice but Burger Nerds recently moved into Courtyard Brewery so I had to head over as I was missing their deliciousness. The vibe here is very 70s and while it was a cool picture, it wasn't very welcoming for a brewery. Breweries offer tons of beers so I was shocked when they didn't have a large menu for customers to check out. There's only one menu and its written on cardboard in funky handwriting I couldn't read. The outside could really use some clean up. There wasn't more than a few people and the other patrons said it does not get busy. If upbeat music was playing outside I probably would really enjoy it. It was just too quiet. Inside was too "laid back". The music was very melancholy. I wish this place was better because of their large outdoor area but I can't see myself bringing a lively bunch here to hang. read more
