Stayed here for one night during a road trip. The room was fairly spacious, but the beds and bathroom area were pretty small. We booked a room with two queen beds, but the beds were definitely smaller than standard queens. Also, the window AC unit was super loud at night, which made it hard to sleep.

Ohhh Bakersfield....Ohh Bakersfield. Now that I am a regular along the highway 5 going from the East Bay to San Diego every month, Bakersfield is my new haunt. It's been a lot of trouble trying to find a Marriott that was a fully positive experience even though I've stayed at several where they had really nice people that worked at the front desk there are always problems. Either the bed is uncomfortable bed or there is drag racing outside or you cannot adjust the temperature of your room or the walls are paper thin or the outside is too loud but this courtyard was pretty amazing! We were so happy to find a courtyard that was inviting as you entered the lobby and that the bed was so comfortable! I asked if we could get a room that was away from noise. Maybe the staff doesn't really know because even though the guy said he was giving us his quietest room, as soon as we walked in, we heard the train! haha I'm like...what the %$#!. Then the yelling teens went running down the hall screaming. There than that, it really was a quiet"ish" room. We were on the top floor so we didn't have the above the head noise. I guess the way of the hotel is that it cannot be quiet by virtue of it being a hotel. Overall though, this was pretty good and by golly, the bed was a dream!

I am appreciative that we did not have any cockroach encounters like it seems multiple guests had at this hotel. We almost didn't stay here for that reason, but I feel like all hotels have cockroach reviews. Woke up to what sounded like two people having a conversation right next to the bed. Realized it was our neighbors chatting in their room at 7:00am on a Saturday. The door between the rooms really let in a lot of sound. Just as I was starting to drift back to sleep, other doors started slamming (the echo in the hallways is not forgiving). Someone leaving the parking lot decided they wanted to let everyone at the hotel know they were leaving via their loud revving (which was not muffled at all by the balcony door we had). Summary: If you're a light sleeper, you should find anther hotel.

Great staff. Mostly 3 stars due to the area being on the edge of sketchy. The property itself is calm, clean and pleasant. One night I walked out to get some grub and a police chopper was scanning the areas about 1/2 mile down. Upon asking, appears the area is not the best but the property itself is fine. It's located near other hotels so this is the area to stay if you want to be near the freeway. Property has the basics - workout room, wifi, clean rooms. 3+ stars!

In a great location in Bakersfield when traveling for business. Room was clean, Starbucks in the lobby, free parking and felt very safe. I appreciate the easy access to streaming and wifi was good. Food available on order from the kitchen or delivery services can bring right to your room. Refrigerator in room but no microwave. Microwave was available in lobby so not very inconvenient. Also lots of good seating options in the lobby. I would stay here again.

Stayed for one night with my husband and dog (there is a $50 dog fee and you would have to stay on the first floor). We checked in late at around 10pm, and it went super quickly. The staff who checked us in was super friendly! For breakfast, there is a restaurant with Starbucks coffee. It was more expensive than a regular Starbucks so beware of that. The staff at the restaurant were also super friendly and nice to talk to! Overall our room was nice and clean, and pretty much standard for a Courtyard.

Good size room with no concerns.

Excellent three night stay. Unsure when renovations happened but nicely done and kept up well. Staff was very friendly. Housekeeping is every other day. Room was clean and stocked. Enjoyed my courtyard view & balcony - needs chairs though. Standard fitness center for Marriott property - clean & enough of equipment. Parking lot was well lit. General area seemed fine with many other hotels around. No complimentary breakfast. Many restaurants to choose from and not far from hotel.

I must say this was my first time actually staying in Bakersfield and I was honestly surprised that…read morethe Marriott was completely booked! Granted it looked like all construction workers because there was nothing else but oversized trucks in their parking lot! My fiancé Googled "clean hotel without bed bugs" and Padre Hotel came up first! Their online reviews were great and we were exhausted and needed to rest! We pulled into their valet parking just to drop off our things. As my fiancé parked the car, across the street in the over night garage, I was able to get a Single King room on a Monday night for $159. As we walked into our room #701, it was rather small, but fine since it was just the two of us. As I sat on the bed, it was actually hard! Yay!!!! I can't STAND soft beds and rather sleep on the floor! Haha no joke! Then my fiancé went into the restroom and suddenly he tapped on something glass sounding as I was turning ing on the tv..... I noticed there was a curtain by the bed, so I pulled it across and lo and behold by the bed was the shower and just a curtain the person from the outside of the shower could open/close as they please..... hee. We also had a mini fridge in the room along with a desk and chair. We had planned on staying one night, but got inside LA, and we figured we'd extend our stay. Upon doing so, we went downstairs the next day and asked if there was a deal if we could stay 3-4 days, and sure enough there was!!!! It's always great to see what happens once you ask! Hee. We got a larger room with a corner room location, I forgot the room number, but the restroom was larger and had a separate wall between the toilet and shower area, so if someone was in the shower, someone else could use the toilet and not be seen. This longer hotel room also had a chaise lounge chair and a better view of their downtown area, granted a lot of the places have closed. Overall, I honestly loved our stay here! It reminded me of a county version of The Fairmont SF! They constantly played new aged country music in the lobby! Then on Fridays and Saturdays there was a live band or singer in the bar area! I love how they had a community aspect to the hotel with some local live entertainment!!! My fiancé also loved watching The Knicks play on the bar tv with other people at the bar! Hee. Oh and they had an adorable coffee shop that made Ready To Order items downstairs too! See my review at Farmacy Cafe, but too freaking too! Country SHREK! Hee We will definitely be back again!!!!!

The Bottom Line (TL;DR) -- While this hotel offers an easy…read morecheck-in process and convenient parking for road trippers, the severe cleanliness issues, unstaffed front desk, and the complete lack of EV chargers ruined our stay. Do not expect the level of quality or convenience the high reviews suggest. The Highs (The Good) -- Frictionless Check-In: We received an email the day prior to fill out our information, which made the actual front-desk check-in incredibly quick. I also appreciated the easy upsell option to secure a 1:00 PM late checkout instead of the standard 11:00 AM. Easy Parking & Unloading: Parking was abundant, which is a massive relief when you are traveling in a larger vehicle. We booked the 1 King Bed Suite, which was conveniently located near the entrance. Loading and unloading our luggage was a breeze through the large back doors. Modern Guest Laundry: They have Speed Queen washers and dryers that connect directly to a mobile app. Not having to hunt for loose change or quarters on a road trip is a huge win! The Lows (The Bad) -- Misleading Amenities (No EV Chargers!): The hotel website explicitly listed EV charging stations as an amenity, which was the main reason I booked this specific property after driving nearly 500 miles. There are zero chargers on-site. As an EV driver, I felt completely misled and this was a huge inconvenience. Unacceptable Cleanliness: The room was barely vacuumed. My toddler actually picked up a discarded clothing tag off the floor, put it in his mouth, and almost ate it. We also found leftover crumbs scattered around, and finding hair on the toilet proved the bathroom wasn't thoroughly cleaned at all. Strange Bathroom Setup & Towel Shortage: We were only given two bath towels (most hotels provide at least four standard). Worse, the large bathtub in our suite had absolutely no showerhead. While fine for bathing a kid or soaking, it was incredibly difficult for an adult to move around and actually get a full, clean rinse. Dark Rooms: The lighting design simply does not match the room size. Even with every single light flipped on, many areas of the room felt very dark and shadowy. Unstaffed Front Desk: Whenever we approached the front desk during the night hours (on 3 different occasions), we had to wait 5 to 10 minutes just for someone to appear. A simple call button is desperately needed for quicker assistance. Lack of Security & Noise Control: There were kids running around the halls late into the night, causing a ton of noise. One even ran right into me while I was unloading the truck. They were very rude, but the real issue was the hotel's complete lack of staff presence or security to manage the disruption. The Verdict -- Overall, I do not recommend the Hourglass Hotel. In an area like Bakersfield where there are plenty of other options nearby, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Do not be fooled by the high ratings, like I was. Hopefully, this review helps you find a better spot!

It's a centralized location, walking distance for restaurants. But I can't say I was happy with the stay. Meh. Unfortunately there were a few issues. To start, our keys didn't work upon check in, so we had to run back downstairs to get a new set. The showerhead was disappointing as the water pressure was subpar and the settings also left something to be desired. We did not have maid service for over 8 hours on Saturday which posed an inconvenience for our schedule in the afternoon. There was a clog in the shower/tub drain, and one of the light bulbs in the room didn't work. There was a nearby train which could be heard in the room. On the plus side, they did have some car charging stations in the parking lot for a fee (ugh). Nothing much stood out about the staff, either in a good way or bad way. During a stay in late February 2026 (Room 432), I encountered live roaches in the room and checked out immediately (2 days into a 4-day stay). That alone was bad enough, but what followed was worse. At checkout, I asked the front desk clerk, Lydia, if this had been reported before and was told it was "not the first time." I expected management to follow up, but no one reached out. After multiple attempts, I finally spoke with the manager (Cal), who told me the issue was not isolated and blamed their pest control vendor. He also said he had tried to contact me but didn't have my number, which didn't make sense given that my contact information is provided at check-in. I tried to resolve this through IHG Diamond Services starting January 30. While they initially responded, the case stalled while waiting on the hotel. I eventually escalated to executive-level review and never received any response at all. Nearly two months later, there is still no resolution. I travel frequently for work, stay at IHG properties often, and don't write reviews like this lightly. A serious room issue is one thing, but the complete lack of follow-through and accountability is what stands out. Disappointing experience overall.
