Updated review: Zachary at front desk is so professional and hospitable. Ive observed how he has handled some interesting situations with other hotel guests and he is terrific and calm. Alternatively, the bar needs a MAJOR facelift. It used to have great energy; now its depressing and there is no incentive to hang out and drink more. Instead I am in my hotel room watching everybody loves raymond sober. Rock bottom. I can just as easily stay at my sisters beautiful home with my family ; instead i PAY (or 'waste' my marriott bonboy points) to stay here so I make my family trips a bit of a vacation (and sleep in). Ive been dissatisfied lately with the vibe here; gotta look into another hotel.

Nice lobby and shabby guest room. Our family of four stayed in a 2 queen room one night. Never had seen a courtyard that has no lounge chair. Bath tub was gross - the curtain smelled like a wet laundry that was left too long. There was a black spot on the ceiling like there was a water damage. The wall must be so thin I could hear what my neighbor was watching on TV. Not the level of hotel I expected from Courtyard

My family and I checked in here for our friends' wedding. I called up early on the day of check-in, spoke with Anthony, and requested an early check-in so that we'd have time to get ready for the wedding. Unfortunately, the traffic from NY to CT was ridiculous and we were extremely late but the person that checked us in, welcomed us with a goody bag and a smile. We got dressed as quickly as we could and had a wonderful night celebrating the newlyweds. The room looked to be clean. There was a red stain on the carpet but it looks as though many families visit this hotel which means lots of kids, and since we also had our terror tot in tow, we can empathize with the evidence left behind from spilled fruit juice. We had an uneventful, quiet night's sleep which was nice, and checkout in the morning was efficient. We met Anthony face to face and brought up some minor issues we had with the room. He graciously further discounted the price of our stay which was amazing! Their customer service is above and beyond. One thing I will say to anyone looking to book a room here, is to make sure to call the hotel's direct number if you have any questions. I mistakenly called their call center (an 800- number) and it took forever to get answers. That was my mistake. Definitely use the 203- number from their email correspondences because you get through quickly. It seems as though many wedding parties utilize this hotel for their guests' needs. The price is very reasonable and there are plenty of places to eat in the area. The hotel also has a heated pool and fitness center. I wish we stayed longer to try out all of the amenities. The staff here is very competent and extremely helpful, whether you have a concern or even need extra towels. I would not mind staying here again in the future.

They are renovating at Marriott. We got two rooms for our guests that came for a couple of days. Reason for the Marriott was simply because they offered us a better deal.

Very modern and elegant lobby with pool

We stayed on the 6th floor in a king room. The room was dated but clean. Being gold Hilton members, we got free breakfast which was meh. Definitely not worth $21/person (go to the Plaza Diner up the street for a better breakfast). Second stay was horrible! Not worth the 30k points paid for the room. No water bottles at check in and the front desk person was not friendly, more dismissive. We checked into room 205 around 3pm. Immediately, we noticed the toilet was broken. They sent someone within 5 minutes to fix it. When we can back at night after dinner around 11pm, our entire room smelled like gas! We both were getting lightheaded and went to the front desk to change rooms. We were then moved to 215 which was better. They offered us free breakfast in the morning but we passed. Coming to shelton again, I would choose a different hotel to try! I would have expected more from a Hilton. Definitely needs renovations!

HOWEVER- staff completely ignored me upon checking in. Her coworker had to tell me that the woman I was trying to check in with was a bubblehead who doesn't pay attention to anything. So he had to intervene and take over (I am not entirely sure of the professionalism in completely throwing your coworker under the bus, lol). I had to call the front desk to have my bathroom cleaned. It had a black ring around the tub and there was extension hair behind the toilet. I mentioned this to the front desk agent and she asked me if I wanted the whole room cleaned. My response was "maybe we should if the bathroom looks this bad!". She laughed and acknowledged that her laughter was an inappropriate response. The room was not addressed until I called a second time after noon. There was rust, mold, dust, and an overall appeal of a hotel in desperate need of attention and refurbishment. But they have free breakfast! Week two: missing essentially all of paper products, and soap upon check-in. Tub does not hold water. Rust on nearly all fixtures. But they have a pool! Week three: I have noticed that I say "good morning" to staff every day and they are buried in their phones. They do not acknowledge customers coming in and out. They definitely have issues with parking as every day I have tried to exit for important work matters and have been met with a delivery truck or shuttle directly in front of the hotel with not much of a way for customers to get their cars out. Week 4: I'm so over this place. Fights have broken out during my stay. The fire alarm has gone off. Police have visited on a separate occasion, not related to the second issue... One woman in particular was causing trouble for many of the hotel patrons. Staff were informed many times, but nothing was done about this particular woman who was causing massive disruption and physical abuse to others. This is close to being the absolute most ghetto place I've ever stayed at. ...but they have a gym! :::shrug::: Location is prime, however. You decide, lol. Inconsistent, unprofessional, outdated... but they have a fitness room (obviously unimpressed at this point)! Definitely not a pleasant experience during the entirety of the month. This place needs an extensive overhaul of staff professionalism, service, support, cleanliness, communication, and appeal. :::This concludes my four week diary:::

We stayed for two nights to attend a show at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater which is only 15 minutes away. Everything about the property is underwhelming. The worn parking lot is the first indicator, quickly confirmed by the dark and aged lobby and furnishings. Three slow elevators, but one out of service, made for waits to and from the rooms exacerbated by the loss of a second elevator on the first day. Room was fairly large for a standard king, but contained dated, worn furniture. Air conditioner was both loud and clunky (meaning it "clunked"). Bathroom was old school with a step-in tub and slow flushing toilet. Great water pressure and hot water redeemed the bathroom though. We stayed on the concierge floor, meaning we had access to Concierge Club. As I walked in the first day, the guy walking out commented, "It's uninspiring." He was right. Some old fruit in bowls, 100 bags of Lays potato chips, And two small refrigerators with a few sodas and water, both at room temperature since the fridges did not seem to be operational. Lastly, was the ick factor. Last day, with the curtains open, I got my first good view of the side of the mattress...ewww. Crime scene came to mind. Clean enough for a short stay, but nothing to draw you back.

It's really difficult working with the public and meeting expectations. As I keep saying, SERVICE is #1 in my opinion. No, we can't make everyone happy but when we're professional and do what we can do to meet expectations with the service we provide with a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and that is the KEY. The negatives that I can point out is the fact they do not have security cameras outside the hotel only lobby and laundry room. The place does not have a well ventilated system throughout, even with the windows cracked you take in every single thing that is being cooked. Oh, don't let someone burn food it's literally suffocating and seeps into the rooms and all up in you sinuses. I'm not sure if all the floors/rooms are smoking rooms but that can be a problem too especially if your not a smoker. I was moved to the 3rd floor after I could no longer go along to get along. I was literally feeling ill with all the combinations of them all, I now keep a towel underneath my door. There's no security cameras outside the hotel so when I have to park in the back I get out with my mace. See, I watch a lot of Crime Shows so I need camera footage, DNA under my fingers and blood in my mouth when I bite a criminal. The hotel sits on a hill so I'm able to do the incline when walking. There's 2 eyes on the stove, no oven, cold fridge, microwave, quiet a.c. unit , pots pans, utensils, alright comfy mattress and pillows @ $130 a night not bad. You can request frequent room cleaning 24 hours in advance outside of the 2 weeks if you like, no hassle for additional bath towels, I receive a lot of packages and mail again no problem with that. Grocery stories within walking distance, variety of food restaurants and fast food options, they are on a bus line and hop on and off the highway. No computer room which is AWFUL for an extended stay, there are times when I need to use a stand alone computer and print things off. All in all 4 stars in my book.

The result here is a full-to-brimming hotel, which makes the thin walls and echoey hallways especially problematic. Without the mobs and their noise, this is a fairly standard no-frills hotel. Comfortable enough, but stripped-down amenities and loud heater/AC unit in the outer wall brand this as a low-end place. (In fact, paying north of $100 for this feels wrong.) I've seen complaints about the Wi-Fi here, though it's working just fine for us. Repeatedly having to click "I Agree" gets tiresome after a while, but for free Wi-Fi, it's doing the trick. The hotel gets three stars instead of two, though, on the strength of this morning's breakfast-room staffer, who quietly navigated the overstuffed space, dodging slow-moving elderly guests and fast-moving children (and their bouncing rubber balls), efficiently stocking and restocking the muffins and bananas and waffle-maker supplies.
