    Ants on the AC
    Matt B.

First off, the staff that I had face to face dealings with were very nice but more on that later. I checked in on Sunday evening and I was asked at check in if I would like housekeeping each day, I declined. After dinner on Monday I set my leftover box on top of the AC unit in the room and intended to eat it for breakfast on Tuesday. I woke up Tuesday morning and my food box was covered in ants. Obviously it went in the garbage and the garbage can in the hallway. I left work at lunchtime to go back to the room and request a new room. The clerk at the front desk obliged my request and gave me a room one door down and across the hall. I went to my old room to get my stuff, a bunch of ants still on the AC unit and switched to the other room. I mentioned the ants still being there to the desk clerk on my way out and she said someone should be on their way to clean it. I got out to my car and realized I forgot something in the new room so I went back to get it. While I was there two ladies were there to clean the old room and started talking about the "the guy in the room", me, asking how long he'd been there and this couldn't have just happened, but I'm sure it's worth it to him for a free room. I didn't ask for, nor was I offered a free/discounted/comped room and for these ladies to to suggest this was my fault, not knowing it was right in front of me, just added insult to injury.

Comfortable king bed. (The only wall art in the room is this modern mural.)

After a month of sleeping in beds other than our own, we needed one last night in a rental before heading home. Having traversed the the long white beaches of the Gulf Coast, the narrow streets of Historic Philadelphia, the tourist-packed monuments of Washington, DC, the mountains of West Virginia, and the winding roads of rural Kentucky, we were ready to stop and flop. And when we did we landed in the lap of luxury at the Courtyard by Marriott in Somerset. The front desk clerk welcomed us with a warm and cordial greeting and then offered a wonderful upgrade to our room. The room was spacious, sparkling clean with all the amenities one needs - especially us weary travelers. A king-size soft bed with large fluffy pillows took up most of the space at one end of the room. A convertible couch and nightstand/small work area stood by the windows at the other. To the left of that was a greatly appreciated Keurig coffee maker with both decaf and regular coffee, plus a neatly hidden microwave and small refrigerator. On the adjacent wall was a work space with large, crystal clear flat screen tv. All of the area around the room, by the bed, et, had both grounded outlets and multiple USB plugs for charging electronics. The bath also was a modern, bright room with a large, refreshing walk-in shower. No door on the entry end was a surprise, but a great design nonetheless - no splashes outside on the bathroom floor! Interesting to note, the only artwork on the walls of this model-decorated room is a large wall mural behind the bed. No other prints or photos at all. The hotel hosts a bistro with limited menu and full bar. There is a beautiful indoor pool and up-to-date exercise equipment. Luxury at an affordable price; you'll get it here.

This is my new favorite hotel to stay at in Somerset. The staff is friendly, the place is new and clean, and the indoor pool is quaint yet refreshing. What more could ya ask for? I love the courtyard and the modern decor. The cafe has good food, and the seating area has private TVs in the booths! This place is just cool. I will definitely be making a return trip.

Manager and the poor maintenance man that needs a raise.

This is my new standard for Ideal Hotel Room. Mattress and pillows were super-comfortable, the…read moremini-fridge wasn't noisy, the shower (cleanliness, water pressure, and heat) were PERFECT. I didn't hear anything from the hallways or adjacent rooms. It was set far back enough from the main road so I didn't hear any traffic noise. The staff were incredibly helpful at check-in and suggested where I should park based on my room's location. I did have some difficulties finding the location, even with GPS, as you can't easily see it from the road. You basically drive through a bank parking lot and it's tucked behind it. There are SO MANY RESTAURANTS nearby to choose from. I honestly don't know what Somerset's about (is it a college town? Something with horses? State capitol?) to need all these restaurants, but I was thankful they were here. It was just a town I was driving through on my way somewhere else. Staff were great, room was ideal, I was spoiled with dining choices, and the morning breakfast bar was perfect. Couldn't ask for anything better.

So this stay was all right as well. The flustered front desk gal from the prior review is back!…read more"OMG OMG OMG...need to get situated...hold on." -_- And after I made the reservation, I never received a confirmation receipt. I was told that it would automatically populate after making the reservation. I thought I would wing it this time, not write any confirmation down and see what would happen when I reached Somerset. I reach the hotel to check in and they have me on file! Yay! Everything was smooth there. Then, I go to my King bed room and the only issue I have found was the thermostat for the heat pump. There are two bottoms on the bottom and an up and down arrow on the right hand side. From left to the right, the bottom buttons are for fan control and the heating and cooling options (those work fine). It was the arrow buttons that were the nuisance. I had to press them so many time just to get the desired temperature. I am thinking this will need to be replaced soon. At first, I thought the room was going to stay on 69 cold and I was like, "OMG!!" (Right now in Kentucky, it is like super humid and hot outside (even at like 3 a.m. in the morning) and so I need really cool temperatures. My house is at 66 (but that is mostly to keep the centipedes from running amok, they hate cold temperatures).
