It gets packed in here and the tongs for the jars are not easily reachable everywhere so I was seeing people using their hands to get their treats. Definitely turned me off from wanting anything. Who doesn't walk into a candy store and daydream about eating everything in sight? Cousin's Candy Shop in Old Town San Diego will definitely trigger those thoughts. This is one of the smaller candy shops I have been in, but they make good use of every square inch. There was not a line to get in, but it was very crowded inside. The shop also perfectly fits into the feel of Old Town. In addition to having a huge selection of classic candies, their fudge is homemade with over two dozen different flavors. Some of the flavors that caught my eye were amaretto chocolate swirl, huckleberry chocolate swirl, mint chocolate swirl, smores, and orange cream. They also have divinity which I don't think I've had since I was a kid from one of the candy shops at Disneyland. The locally made San Diego branded chocolate bars also caught my eye with flavors such as jalapeno, applewood bacon, smores, and whiskey. A good portion of the shop is a small kitchen, and they mix up and pull saltwater taffy while visitors watch from either inside or from right outside the front window. The day's flavors were huckleberry, molasses, watermelon, chocolate, peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, and black licorice. We managed to leave with only a few goodies, but the urge to leave with a truckload of deliciousness was very strong. This is definitely a great little shop to visit. read more

This is one of the very few spots in SD where you can get real orange peels dipped in dark chocolate. It's a Persian thing and is very tough to find so I am so stoked that they have them. They don't make them in house but they are fresh and super high quality at $24 per pound. If you go off peek hours, parking isn't too bad. Peek hours, parking is nearly impossible. The shop is super cute and old school inside. There was a woman making taffy and a young man working the register. This place is cute. Located in Old Town San Diego, they make a lot of their candy fresh daily so we had to stop in. Got a bagful of their assorted chocolates that are all very good: mint chocolate wafers, sea salt caramels, German chocolate, s'mores style chocolate, etc. All are made in both dark and milk chocolate variants. Awesome shop with a line down the street. My buddy told me about this and brought his family to Old Town and it was very nice. They made fresh pulled salt water taffy and have some delicious tasting fudge too. Line went quicker than I had thought and prices weren't too touristy expensive. After visiting Hot Licks in Seaport Village My grandfather and I visited Cousins Candy Shop in Old Town and had a delightful experience. I picked up their world-famous handmade saltwater taffy, and my grandfather got a couple of slices of their rich fudge. The staff were incredibly nice and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The shop itself is quite small, and it was very loud and crowded during our visit. It was a bit bothersome and hard to check out due to the crowd. I guess people now days don't care for personal space. I think it would be helpful if the staff could form a waiting line outside to manage the flow of customers better. Despite the crowded conditions, everything else was great. When we got to the car, my saltwater taffy had melted a bit, but after about five minutes under the air conditioner, it was ready to be eaten. The taffy was delicious and chewy in every way possible. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and I would definitely recommend Cousins Candy Shop for anyone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. They made different flavored individually wrapped taffies daily. The peppermint flavor is my favorite! The taffy is not too sweet and won't stick on your teeth. They do sell by pounds. I stop here whenever I'm over that way, especially during the holidays. Employees are always polite and greet you. They also make a point to thank you when you leave. From the old floors, to the small baskets of candy and vintage "costumes" the employees wear It really does feel like a trip back in time. Love it here ! The saltwater taffy is made on site and often times they're making it right in front of you. The fudge is delicious and the ability to fill a brown bag with a variety of candy is so fun. I've been coming here since I was a child, I'm almost 50. I bring my 5 children here, some of them are in their 20s and they still love filling up their small brown bags of goodies. Every touristy spot in a coastal city needs to have a candy shop, right? It was only a matter of time before I found one in San Diego - and since I was playing tourist I of course had to stop in and check it out. Everything was there as it should be - fudge, a selection of chocolates, vintage candy, lots of bulk containers filled with loose pieces to fill your bag with, and salt water taffy. A standout to me was that they carried Fruit Stripe Gum - that amazing/disappointing gum from my childhood where the flavor lasted half a second. While everything looked good, the taffy stuck out to me the most so I decided to get a bag. Oh wow - it was great; not too soft but I also didn't pull a muscle in my jaw trying to chew it.
