I sampled chocolate from Peru, Madagascar, and Kenya, and they all had unique fruity characteristics. Because they're vegan, so they use oat milk for their chocolate instead of dairy. My wife and I also wanted some drinks while we were here. I had a hot chocolate. My wife had hers with espresso shots. Good espresso in pure chocolate will never not be good. They are family owned and they only add chocolate, sugar, and oat milk to make their bars. Stopped in after a tour nearby, as I simply cannot just walk by a chocolate shop. The woman working wasn't super helpful or friendly, as she seemed more keen to assist others in the shop. She is hard to please woman and when she says "this is the best drink ever and the raspberry chocolate is very good" that means this place is great and you should come visit!!!! Walked into this cute little shop not expecting much - but as soon as I stepped on the door I saw it: free samples of chocolate. SOLD. I sampled three different flavors of chocolate and each of them were so rich and decadent....I couldn't pick a favorite. The man that was working the counter was busy making drinking chocolate so we perused the shop and picked up a few things. The employees are always very friendly. My favorite things to get at Nibble are the iced latte (I can't remember the exact name but it has cinnamon in it) and the Iced Chai Latte with Oat Milk. Not the dirty Chai, but the regular one. It tastes like the milk after eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Nibble also has a location in Old Town, which was there before the Little Italy location opened. They also have a location in PB. I like their chocolate bars from the different countries. I was casually walking to Little Italy and wanted to stop somewhere for a coffee. What can I say? I love chocolate, so Nibble Chocolate instantly caught my eye. I didn't even know it was called Nibble. The signage I saw said "Chocolate Maker," and I thought to myself, "Don't mind if I do!" I was in the shop around 10am, which wasn't busy at all. This was great as I got to take my time to take in the drink menu and admire the truffles on display. The employee at the time was such a sweetheart and explained everything to me. She told me about how their store was completely vegan, and she walked me through the different iced drinks they had. I appreciated that she asked if I had any nut allergies. I tried the vanilla oat truffle, which was rich and not too sweet. I enjoyed the texture of the nuts inside it. The Chocolate de Olla iced chocolate was fantastic. I was biking around downtown and came up a little plaza to stop at and stumbled upon this place, so I decided to come in for a coffee. I walked in happy with a smile on my face and came out a little less so. The barista was not really welcoming rudand the ambiance could be a little better but the coffee was decent enough for the price. Likely no reason to come back what with all the other phenomenal coffee spots just a couple blocks away in Little Italy but you won't be too upset if this was the only one open. read more

I opted for the raspberry and coffee flavor. They are very transparent with their ingredients and cacao bean sources and the staff reached out to answer any questions. There's a bit of table space outside but ample seating inside. They had a sampling of four different kinds of chocolate and we took the Peru bar home. They also sell nibble jars on the display shelves if you don't want to break the bar into pieces! I'm a big fan of Nibble Chocolate -- their quality is consistently top-tier, and I love that everything is vegan, ethically made, and clearly crafted with care. Their hot chocolate is some of the best I've had, and the truffles? Worth the trip. That said, I had an uncomfortable experience at the Little Italy location today. After spending around $25 and tipping generously, I noticed the staff member (a young white man behind the counter with an accent that sounded vaguely Dutch or Belgian) eyeing me and then stepping outside to smoke. It wasn't clear at first, but he was trying to photograph me without asking and without me noticing -- which I did. Moments later, he asked to take a photo for social media -- but no context, no offer of appreciation or exchange, just a vague request after already making me feel a little surveilled. As someone who models and deeply respects the art of exchange -- especially in small business -- I expected more thoughtfulness. A simple acknowledgment or gesture in return would've gone a long way. At the very least, the request could have come before the creeping behavior, not after. By contrast, the staff member I met yesterday at the Old Town location showed a lot more presence and respect -- and I appreciated that. Still love the chocolate. Still recommend the brand. But if you're going to ask customers to be part of your brand image, especially women -- especially women of color -- you need to bring more respect, clarity, and reciprocity to the table. read more

Fantastic find in Little Italy. Strolling through Little Italy on a recent trip to San Diego, I see a sandwich board on the proclaiming free chocolate tasting. So of course, the chocolate snob I am, I had to stop. The gentleman that helped me was incredible. This is quite the company. Their handcrafted truffles are vegan. The cacao beans are sourced from small, sustainable farms from Brazil, Madagascar, Dominican Republic, and Peru. He was me through their total processing. And explained each sample of the various raw chocolate they used. They offer the products in bar form from the four countries and are different percentages. They have a display case of the eight flavors of truffles they create. I tried two- the dark chocolate center and the coffee, both devine. I recommend if you're in the neighborhood to check them out. This local gourmet chocolatier has opened a branch in the southern part of the Little Italy neighborhood. Hot and iced chocolate, coffee, and tea were offered as drinks while baked goods complemented the chocolate bars and truffles that were on sale. Free samples of the different chocolate profiles were available. It seemed that the darker versions with a higher percentage of Brazilian cacao beans were the specialty of this place. At the service counter, handcrafted vegan truffles of various flavors were on display. I purchased a few of them at $2.50 apiece. Raspberry, Pomegranate Sea Salt, Chai, and Mexican were my choices. The Mexican had the most interesting flavors because of the chili, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon that added spiciness to the chocolate.
