I was extremely surprised by the poor reviews on Yelp because that was not the experience that we had. We went to the cove after walking around Ringwood Manor. We went around 1 o'clock on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I have to say we have been there a few times and the service has been OK but a while back we were there and we had a bartender name Jill blonde woman. She claimed to have worked in fine dining establishments, and she bragged about it. She could barely keep up with our water and soda order. The bar only had about eight people there outside. . We had brought friends on a boat and brought them there for their first time she screwed up our entire order. Everything was backwards and mixed up. My buddy had a piece of metal in his muscles so we complained which we normally do not do. We let it go that our entire order was screwed up. We try to be nice. Luckily, there was a girl inside that had maybe reddish purpleish hair younger girl who was very understanding and Who knew us from being there a few times and she apologized over and over . Anyway, this girl, Jill did not get our drinks right did not get anything right and we have spoken to several people and she is by far the most horrible bartender you could ever have. Somehow, she's friends with the owner so they keep her there. All I know is, I've talked to a dozen people on the lake and none of them go there anymore because of her. We ended up getting an entire meal for free which was not our intention. The manager never even came out to apologize. The manager looked like he was a 19 year old kid wearing shorts totally unprofessional. Dear self favor, do not go there. There's several little restaurants on the lake that are much better maybe a little more expensive but spend the money and go somewhere else. This place needs to be shut down as long as she's bartending. This place is going to go right into the ground. But I want to complement the young very nice girl that had the multicolored hair maybe about 5 foot six that's always in the dining area. In my 16 years of living, I have lived in the same house in Northern NJ. A few years ago, we checked out Cove Castle, particularly because we love the Greenwood Lake area. The service is always tip tier, and the food barley takes long, even on busy days​. We had a reservation for 6 people. Arrived and they gave us two tables with 4 chairs each and told us to sit separately. They refused to put the tables together. Ok whatever so we sat separately. Margarita was nothing but sour mix. I had the quesadilla which was supposed to come with sour cream and avocado. Neither were on the plate. My son ate a tiny bit when he wasn't trying to watch the ducks. Again (2nd time doing this) my son tried to get the ducks attention by throwing his shoe out onto the dock. Just have to say, don't be afraid to ask a server if they knew you were seated on the outskirts of the main serving area. What a terrible experience. Terrible service and terrible food. My fiance and I have both been in food service and it takes a lot for us to tip less than 20%. First, we were completely ignored for over 15 mins when we were sat down. All other tables were being well attended to, and all attempts of trying to get some attention seemed purposefully ignored. So much so that I started to think why are are we being so neglected. Is there an unseen reason why they are ignoring us? We finally got table service after we went in to talk to a manager. Second, the food was completely awful. I got the fish tacos and I couldn't eat them even though I was ravenously hungry. It literally tasted like eating a mouthful of old spice. All salt and seasoning, and I tend to over salt everything. They were disgusting. The waitress never checked in on us once. Not for another drink or check in for the food. Third, when I stated the food was inedible, the waitress just took it away. No comp, no exchange for something else, no drink nothing, they charged us full price for the meal. I worked as a waitress for 8 years and never would imagine doing that. Fourth, they overcharged us $4 over the listed price on the menu for the meal. They apologized and corrected the check. I ordered "medium rare" ... What came was a dull gray burger, with NO CHEESE, 2 teeny coins of pale, tasteless onion, on a thin, limp, soggy bun. One limp tear of lettuce, one slice tomato. Fries were ok & ample, but the dish came with ONE small ramekin of ketchup -- inadequate for both burger & fries. All this for $18 burger. SERVICE: I was the last to arrive for a party of four at 5:30 pm. I found just a steak knife on a napkin - no set up. I asked for utensils, and a beer. By the time both came, the food was cold anyway. I don't mind paying higher prices for a good meal. But I don't like getting ripped off. Visited the area for my partner's birthday and wanted to take her out to someplace special in the area. Based on the dock views, this was the clear favorite. And the nighttime view over the water on a warm autumn evening lived up to all the hype. There was also a solo guitarist performing throughout our meal to set the mood. A friend's account of this place "If you want an amazing experience on the water, I would choose the Cove Castle. I will just give you the heads up that the food and the service are hit or miss. But views can't be beat." The service was lacking. We were seated almost immediately; the slight delay in seating was due to the host swatting away the spiderwebs from the canopy frame near our table. Once seated, we waited a solid 10 minutes (measured by 3 full length songs performed by the musical entertainment) before a server even came by to take our drink orders. Fearing we would never see our server again, we placed our drink and food orders in one shot. It's worth noting that this was the first of three attempts throughout the evening to get water for our table. It was not until our entrees were served and subsequently devoured (and asking our server, a food runner, and another server) that a meager glass of water made it to our table. Much to our surprise and delight, drinks and food were served at a relatively quick pace considering how long it took to even meet our server. The food was hit or miss. We ordered the maple pork chop and the gnocchi with sage butter sauce. The pork was cooked perfectly medium over mashed potatoes and a small medley of roasted broccoli, asparagus, and butternut squash. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were passable, asparagus was lacking, and butternut squash was abysmally mushy. The gnocchi should be a hard pass to anyone who might be interested. The gnocchi was very overcooked and texture was somewhere between a stale pasta and a rubber tire. The sauce itself was just butter and no sage. To top off, the gnocchi came with toasted white bread because obviously why not. Our warning should have been witnessing a woman at the adjacent table looking confused and disappointedly at her plate of gnocchi, just moving the pieces around to make heads or tails of what food was placed in front of her. The only positive was that the plate of gnocchi could easily feed a family of 4 -- quantity over quality, am I right? As our friend had put it, food and the service are hit or miss, but views can't be beat. So if you're coming here with the mindset of hanging out to soak in the views with a few drinks, then this is the perfect place for you. If you want to have an exceptional dining experience, manage expectations or dine elsewhere. read more

We waited 30 minutes for plates for our appetizers. We had ants covering our table (see below) so we had to finally just get up and wait at the front to pay our bill and leave. Very pretty place and beautiful location, which may be the reason why they think they can be unfriendly and snippy with customers who ask questions about where they can sit to watch the band. The manager/hostess was unfriendly and short when we asked if we could sit on the sand to watch the band. I worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years so I know it takes patience at times dealing with the public, perhaps she could use a hospitality class or two on how to be polite. After we got seated it took half an hour to even get acknowledged by the staff (everyone just kept saying we were not in their section). After another 30 minutes our drinks and kids food came out. Much later 4 out 6 adult meals came out. Mind you, these were burgers and wraps. The other 2 meals never made it to the table. Most people didn't even get water, no drinks even got refilled. The missing entrees were comped (whoop-de-doo!) And we managed to get one of them to go, the second one we just couldn't get a straight answer on after 3+ hours.
